The hotel was tired, needing maintenance, not too clean and the restaurant was awful. At breakfast it was commonplace to have empty containers for milk, juice, bread etc. the cooked food was often not available without a long wait and I was given both very undercooked eggs(clear white) and almost raw bacon. We ate dinner once and although there were very few guests there our preferred choices were unavailable. What we eventually received was edible but otherwise unremarkable. Our room was poorly cleaned, including the sink not even being wiped down. We had to request additional toilet roll. The hotel charges in advance for parking and keeps doing so even though they clearly have more people paying for parking than available spaces. On a plus side, the staff, although mainly untrained, were in the main friendly.

Hi me and my wife stayed last Saturday 12th July for 1 night and in the morning was asked about our stay and we said truthfully it was horrendous. The room we got as an "upgrade" was little more that a store cupboard. Then there was the heat!! I know the weather was very warm but no air conditioning fans or ventilation of any kind was a bit much. And now to top it off the bathroom that should have been condemned in the 60's !!!! It was just disgusting. We showed the woman at reception the pictures on checkout and she genuinely looked shocked but the state it was in it hadn't just happened it had been like that for a while. She asked if we would like to be contacted about our complaints and we said we where away to Spain till the Friday and to contact us after that and as of yet nothing. I had thought (wrongly of course) paying a bit more than others it would be a more relaxing night before flying but how wrong was I. I have included the bathroom pictures and pray that you don't subject anyone else to those conditions anymore.

We have been staying at the Mercure Hotel in Ayr for over 20 years and have never had a major problem until our recent visit in June 2025. The Mercure operates a car parking system whereby hotel visitors pay £7 a day for car parking - you do this by entering your car details and length of stay into a computer at the reception desk when you check in and and pay the receptionist the requisite amount - in this case £21 for 3 days. This we did and left after our 3 days were up. The car park is contracted out by the hotel to a local parking company (Smart Parking). About a month later we received two £100 parking fines for not paying from Smart Parking firm for not paying for 2 days parking. Ridiculous, we thought. Fortunately we had a parking receipt for the three days and sent off an appeal, thinking that would be the end of the matter, however, the parking firm wrote back saying the fines stood, and that we must have entered the wrong car details ( so why did we not get fined for the third day in that case )? We contacted the hotel and explained the problem but the lady receptionist we spoke to was completely indifferent to our situation. We emphasised that we paid Mercure for the car park and therefore our contract was with them, but were once again greeted with indifference. AT NO POINT COULD THE HOTEL OR THE CAR PARKING FIRM PROVIDE ANY EVIDENCE THAT WE HAD ENTERED THE WRONG DETAILS INTO THE CAR PARK MACHINE. We have now paid (a much ) reduced fine to the car parking company and its bye-bye Mercure, we will never stay with one of your hotels again.

Spent 3 night here. The hotel is tired the lack of staff is noticeable the food is over priced and the drinks are a lot cheaper in the pub next door. The lack of leisure facilities and thre hotel needs some TLC shows. The corridor are noisy at night

The friendly local staff at this hotel, do well at providing hospitality and a good service. They also do well to present a child of the 1960's to current day standards. The decor may not be in vogue, but generally I found nothing to complain about and everything was clean and tidy. My 6th floor front facing room provided a panoramic view out to Arran and was conducive to a good nights sleep. As a compact double, it was ideal for a solo traveler and the bathroom was larger than expected. The only thing maintenance need to work on, is making the bedroom doors quieter and easier to close. The breakfast room is spacious and popular with groups of golfers staying over. The buffet catered for lots of tastes and the hot food items are served onto your plate by a member of staff. Convenience is key here as it's literally a town centre location, with the Gaiety Theatre and bus station just across the road. The somewhat depressing railway station is within a 10 minute walk. Turning to pricing, I booked during a 20% off sale and was happy with the value for money it represented for the product on offer. Rates at other times can be harder to justify and play on this being the only large central hotel in the heart of town.
