Austin Proper Hotel, a Member of Design Hotels

Living in the greater Austin area, my wife and I decided to stay a night downtown to celebrate our anniversary. We never been to the Proper before, but are both interested in design and art, so we have heard about it a lot. Not only did we have an incredible visual experience - the hotel is gorgeous and the attention to details and design is truly first class and excellent; but we were also positively surprised by the culture and excellence of the staff. Surly we expected high level service from a hotel like the Austin Proper, yet they managed to surpass the expectation of service and hospitality. Oscar that received us as we checked in was truly a pleasure to interact with, and he made our stay very special. And from him, we had the same experience with everyone we encountered. The morning we checked out we got the answer to how this amazing culture exists: I happened to bump into Anis, the GM of the hotel; I had no idea I was having a conversation with the GM until a few minutes in; and they way he took a personal interest in us, ensured we had a good experience, and how he paid attention to details in our conversation and proved it by a handwritten card as we checked out told me everything I needed to know how the staff and guests are treated, and how this culture exists. Leading a non-profit with 50 staff, and almost 1,000 weekly volunteers, I understand how critical healthy culture is, and how intentional one need to be to create and protect it. Well done Anis and the leadership of Proper! Of course, rooms were amazing, food great etc. But more importantly, they made us feel like a million bucks! Thank you Proper, Anis and staff - we are already bragging about you and will surly be back.

Anis and his staff at the Proper always go above and beyond what is generally accepted at most high end properties. They have won my loyalty and when in Austin, I will never stay at another hotel. Thanks again Anis for your attention to detail.

Austin Proper Hotel, everything about my experience was excellent. The service was truly top-notch, with every detail carefully attended to. Very chilled and welcoming lobby area, breakfast at The Peacock was outstanding, offering a delicious start to the day. The gym is well-equipped, and the addition of a recovery room is a fantastic touch. The property itself is stunning, blending luxury with comfort. I was particularly impressed by the hospitality of the managing director, Anis Khoury, who is both polite and friendly, ensuring that guests have an unforgettable stay. Highly recommend!

This is a gorgeous hotel. I liked everything about it except for the fact that we had to live out of our suitcase. There were ZERO drawers or shelves in the room. I thought a piece of furniture was missing, so I asked at the front desk. They said that some rooms had drawers and they tried to assign those rooms to reservations of 3+ days. (We only stayed two days.) One of the other couples in our group was staying 4 days -- also without drawers, and another person said she put her clothes on the bottom of the armoire/closet. (That's where I put my shoes.) For over $400 per night, I expected better.

Everything was perfect about our quick staycation for our 20th anniversary in August. From the moment we checked in the service was top notch. The front desk staff were so accommodating. They were helpful with all requests and super friendly. The pool service staff was some of the best I have experienced. They came around every couple hours with little treats for guest and kept the ice water flowing on the 100 degree day. The pool food is from La Piscina which is one of my fav restaurants. We ordered lobster quesadillas and everything was amazing! The margs were top notch! We had a beautiful room over looking the pool. I used the hotel electric bike during my stay to take a lap around the lake and it was delightful. We dined at Peacock and Goldie’s too! The drinks at Goldie’s are some of the most unique and beautiful and the bartenders recommended drinks based on our preferences. Such an amazing stay and the perfect location downtown.

This was one of the best hotel experiences we’ve had. The entire staff was attentive and incredibly hospitable. We were blown away by the ambience, food/drinks, and service. The bed was so comfortable my fiancé inquired about the mattress as a potential purchase! Dinner at The Peacock restaurant was exceptional (highly recommend the grouper entree and lamb kebab). Thank you Proper for making our stay memorable! We will be back for sure.

Had an awesome time at Proper, and a big part of that was thanks to Giulio! He went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. From securing reservations to checking in on us throughout our stay and suggesting restaurants for the rest of the weekend.

We had an exceptional experience. The restaurants were amazing and bar scene had great energy. We received impeccable service, especially from Julio. He checked in on us frequently over the weekend and went above and beyond by securing last-minute reservations for us. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a top-notch experience.

Very nice design, elegant and contemporary. The food is excelent but I would like to hace more good options to eat around
