I notice that any poor reviews here relate to the food, not our experience, but this is also the place for reviewing it as a ‘hotel’. An immaculately clean decent size bedroom at the front of the pub over-looking the village memorial. Tea and coffee facilities, good WiFi, tv we didn't try and bathroom toiletries. A comfortable nights sleep. Breakfast is a little inconveniently standard at 09.00 requests for a different time are best requested the day before. Breakfast was a freshly cooked choice. I went for my usual Full English Breakfast, with thick bacon, good sausage, black pudding etc it was very good indeed. Helen with less of an appetite opted for a simpler, but similarly well cooked, scrambled eggs on toast. Dinner had a very good selection of food, not your usual straightforward pub choices but some more inventive dishes. Both our were tasty, a very good rich large pie dish and a cheesy broccoli bake with apple and walnut salad, both good choice. Wines started around £25 a bottle.

Set in a beautiful village, beer in great condition, food exceptionally tasty and generously portioned. Welcome so friendly on every occasion I visited. Kept going back to this pub when I was staying in the area because I knew it would always offer something special. Never disappointed. Visit if you can!

Very friendly welcome, great pub with awesome atmosphere and clearly very good food although I could only watch plates go by since I had already eaten. Set in an idyllic village this is far from the madding crowd and even has an electric car charging point

Very good. Great staff and the best roast (I had venison shoulder, cooked perfectly with gravy I could have drunk by the pint) I have had in devon pub. Loverly location (just down the road from sharpham, set in the devon hills in the picturesque village of ashprington) and nice decor (proper pub complete with garden). Highly recommend to walkers, well behaved dogs allowed on a lead etc. 👌

Real country pub set in a lovely village enhanced by friendly staff and locals, instantly felt at ease and relaxed on arrival. The room was spacious with ensuite, all very clean and the bed very comfy, looked as if it had been refurbished recently. We both had lovely meals on the evening followed up in the morning with a full English breakfast. Love to go back and spend more time there, it gets our recommendation.

Return to this lovely locals' village pub. Featured in the Good Pub Guide and Good Beer Guide. Vibrant on a Sunday afternoon. 4 real ales. Fresh flowers on the tables. Decent linen napkins. Doggy friendly. Friendly crew. Cosy with log fires. Food nothing special; roast (?) parsnips a challenge. Surprisingly, a telly in the bar which is a shame for a traditional pub.🇬🇧🇳🇿

Visited The Durant Arms for Sunday Lunch - what can I say - it was fantastic. We had the venison and beef, both of which were beautifully cooked with plenty of vegetables including a lovely cauliflower cheese. The service from the waiting staff was excellent, attentive without being intrusive. Another plus for us is it’s dog friendly. Definitely recommended but booking is a must.

We ate at this superb restaurant twice during our recent holiday. Without doubt the highlight of both meals was Sunday lunch. Absolutely superb. Meat cooked to perfection, great roast potatoes and excellent vegetables. Accompanied by some of the best Yorkshire puddings I have ever had at any establishment. Our second meal was equally as good. A great selection of starters, mains and desserts. Overall well worth a visit if you are in the area, but you will need to book in advance, especially for Sunday lunch.
