Begeti Bay Hotel

Very nice place to visit! We arrived 4AM in the morning, and was given breakfast and cold beer. A very hospitable family is running the place. A really good atmosphere, great food, and clean rooms. (Remember to tip the cleaning staff!) If you want a relaxed holiday, this is the place.

My mum and I have just returned from a week’s stay at the Begeti Bay hotel, on an all inclusive basis. My experience of the hotel was positive on the whole. Below are a list of all the good things about the hotel and location (from the point of view of a 39 year old female travelling with her 70 something mother) - It is located at the end of a lovely bay, it is a quiet location for rest and relaxation. - The hotel outlook is stunning, with the mountains and Chania in the distance and the most incredible sunsets. - The staff are phenomenal. They work their socks off to make sure every guest has a brilliant holiday and they were extremely forgiving of my embarrassing attempts at speaking Greek! They also speak very good English. - The air con in the bedrooms is amazing. Efficient and quiet. - The beds were the best I’ve ever slept on. I think the mattresses were new and they were excellent. - The public bus into Rethymno (the nearest big town) run every 30 mins from just up the road. - The beer on tap is very nice! Cocktails not my thing. Wine was drinkable. - The hotel shops sells drinks, snacks and souvenirs at very reasonable prices. Things that could be better: - Like many other reviews have commented on the food is rather monotonous. Saying that it is well cooked and perfectly edible. They use fresh herbs from their garden and keep food waste to a minimum. The bread is delicious and the freshest bread I’ve ever had at a hotel. I counted over 20 types of jam at breakfast (the honey syrup is amazing) and their eggs are tasty. Every day lunch and dinner included a selection of fresh fruit and vegetables. Previous reviews are a little harsh on the food in my opinion. I would describe the food as home cooking done on an industrial scale and there’s nothing wrong with that! - Coffee is out of a machine and as a coffee lover it was a bit grim. - The hotel is rather dated, and has a rather 90’s vibe. But it is clean and practical. - Rooms are a little on the small size and lack storage for anything other than hanging clothes (lots of hanger space and hangers). They do have a fridge which is a plus. The shower in our room was new and very nice, but lacked sufficient shower screen, so every shower, no matter how careful you ended up with a puddle on the floor. Hairdryer in the bathroom was surprisingly powerful. A good number of electrical sockets in the room (the shop in reception has some really cheap adapters if you need more!). - Definitely need more toilets in the public spaces. - The pool is rather small and at busy times wasn’t pleasant. It’s not really big enough for swimming laps. We always managed to get a sun lounger though. - The umbrellas by the pool were next to useless. They were too small and high to provide any significant shade, which was a bit of an issue when we visited as it was 36 degrees most days. - The private beach in front of the hotel is not the best. We have just had a lovely stay at Begeti Bay Hotel. We arrived after midnight but were greeted by friendly staff who gave us a drink and some food before showing us to our room. The room was lovely and spacious with a nice semi-private outside area with sun loungers and chairs. The beds were comfortable and there was air-con which helped on hot nights. The hotel itself is very clean, quiet and peaceful. It never feels too busy and we were able to relax comfortably by the pool. There is a little shop in the hotel which provides all the essentials and you can purchase bus tickets. The all-inclusive food was great and catered to us as vegetarians. The all- inclusive drinks menu was varied. The hotel itself is about 30mins away (by bus) from Rethymno Old Town. The hotel is also extremely close to the beach (the hotel proved loungers and umbrellas on the beach). There is also a bar (Ilios) a short walk away from the hotel that serve great cocktails. We are very happy with our stay and all the staff were friendly and helpful.
