La Oliva Apartments

This was my 3rd stay at the Riu Olivia Beach. Visited 18th September for a week. The hotel's location is the main reason I returned again. The weather was very hot. The actual hotel remains dated and is waiting for renovations to be approved although it does appear minor repairs are ongoing. My room (645) in the main building was a suite with separate bedroom and lounge and was clean. Towels replaced daily. No tea making facilities. Shower in bath. The rest of the hotel is clean. Food repetitive but always found something to eat. Self service Amstel lager, soft drinks etc. Staff friendly. Small shop onsite. Evening entertainment was ok. Bit of sun lounger reserving going on - the beach is an alternative venue with a few bars on it and loungers (paid for). I strolled along the beach to Corralejo a couple of times and less than an hour walk. Taxi back was 8 Euros. Outside the hotel on the main road is a bus stop and HiperDino supermarket. Taxi rank outside hotel. The lifts in the main building are worth a separate mention - 3 lifts and 1 didn't work. The other 2 were very slow, then when it did arrive usually already full of people, the doors sometimes start to close after a couple of seconds while you're still getting in and sometimes it didn't stop flush to the floor and you had to step up and out of the lift. They need servicing or something. This hotel is ideal if you want to be somewhere fairly quiet and in a fantastic location with sunny weather and you're not too fussed if everything isn't perfect. I hope to return for a 4th visit soon. Thank you all at the Riu Oliva Beach.

I rated a 3 because we stayed her last year and gave it a 5. It is a different experience. Clearly the leadership are delivering a different message to the staff. Last year they couldn’t do enough, we were blown away by the unique experience. We were so excited about coming back, but sadly we’ve been disappointed on numerous occasions. It’s just another hotel now. The staff appear gutted, I can only think this is the corporate experience as opposed to the previous boutique experience. It’s a beautiful hotel with great staff, but sadly they are not able to offer that unforgettable experience we had last year. It’s gone from a customer focus experienced to a revenue focused corporation. We felt like we were getting in the way here, that can be uncomfortable I was told that if I wanted to keep the iron for more than an hour I would have to be charged 9 euros….. in a 5 star hotel!! Bizarre.

The hotel is around 30mins from the airport. Room was nice and tidy - premium junior suite Nice infinity pool on the roof. Food was amazing, there was something different everyday. I highly recommend and will stay again.

This really is a fantastic hotel.From the moment you check in to departure they go way above the norm to look after you. Rooms are massive,and absolutely spotlessly clean .Towels changed every day as is Tea and Coffee. The standard of food is of a high quality with lots of choices. Pool areas again are spotlessly clean,with main pool heated. Don't be put off by the use of a token for drinks around pool areas,it works brilliantly, you won't see any plastic glasses rolling around as you have to take them back to get another drink or token Evening drinks are in glasses. Entertainment team where as good as you will get in holiday hotel,they where 1st class. Evening shows where always good. Big thank you to all the staff they worked so hard to look after you.

So let's remember these are an extremely reasonable 3* self catering apartments, yes it is a bit tired and dated in places and the kitchen equipment could be more substantial for self catering, however, there is no issue with the cleanliness of the resort, the apartment and communal areas were kept clean and the maintenance team were clearly busy renovating areas of the resort, the reception staff were polite and helpful and when we did have a small issue with a missing sink plug this was resolved within 10 mins. The pool bar was reasonable and extremely friendly, the on site supermarket was well stocked. The only negative was the calibre of many of the guests, this really appeared to be a typical brits abroad resort, waiting to reserve sunbeds at 8.30 every morning, loud inappropriate language in front of young children, and sometimes aggressive nature no doubt caused by over drinking. To conclude, it's a nice 3* resort, but unfortunately attracting typical brits looking to drink heavily, lay in the sun, and adopt an aggressive approach to the staff. I wouldn't hesitate to book again but knowing this was a good location to base myself not necessarily stay on the complex during the day.

Really great hotel and would return again. Hotel is large but grouped into collections of suites, with all buildings only 2 storeys high, and due to the layout of the buildings it shelters the pool areas somewhat from the traditional winds that the Canaries experience. Nice decor in the public areas of the hotel and in rooms too. Warm welcome at reception and the staff were really great. Very large spacious room with a separate lounge area and large bathroom. Only real negative about the room was the bed, very firm and not overly comfortable - I like a firm bed but this was very firm (though appreciate personal taste differs from person to person). Two lovely large outdoor pools, plenty of sun beds, and although we went in January there was never an issue in getting pretty much the same sun beds each day. Animation team were great and so friendly. One pool has music playing (though not overly loud) throughout the day & is where the activities took place, the other pool has no music and was incredibly quiet - again down to personal tastes, and good to have the choice depending on what you’re looking for, we like a bit of background and the atmosphere the music gives, so spent our time around that pool. Fantastic selection of drinks within the all inclusive, all brand name spirits included in the A/I. Food in the restaurant was really good - breakfast was great, a good selection for lunch, and evening meal too. My other half never overly enjoys A/I restaurant food (aside from breakfast) but even he enjoyed the food! Snack bar at one of the pools does a good selection of light bites and things through the day, quick service and lovely food (the chicken wrap was amazing). Good location, quiet in and around the hotel, but only a few minutes walk to shops, bars, restaurants. Overall really great time here and would definitely come back again!
