Wonderful location, the villas very spacious, clean and complete. Very friendly staff. However, the heated pool was fatal: there were cockroaches!! And it also smelled very strange and unpleasant. A shame we couldn't enjoy it, but everything else was great.

The studios were great. We arrived to chilled wine bottle of water and bowl of fruit. The bed was really comfy. Rooms cleaned everyday. Pool area was chilled but at times it was very busy but was probably because this hotel shared the pool with 2 other hotels. Pool was chilly salt water but very big. We was right on beach. Restaurants and bars were 15min walk away. This was up some steep hills. Although there were some on flat level. The restaurant next door (reds) was delicious. There's bus stop 2mins away which took you into Portimao. Also road train which went round Alvor. We had lovely time. The staff at beach villas were exceptional.

Fantastic accommodation in a great location right on the beach. The villas were perfect for a family great space, immaculate and everything you could need. All the staff were very friendly and the buffet breakfast was fabulous. Would definitely recommend.

*This is an updated review as the hotel manager made contact and apologised for our experience and arranged recompense. This is satisfactory to us and we have therefore provided an updated review reflecting this positive customer service after our stay* Original review - Start with positives - the pool area accessible at Pestana dom joao as well as the breakfast included here with the pestana Alvor beach villas were very good. The gym was adequate here at dom joao too. Unfortunately the villa itself in pestana alvor beach villas was really disappointing. Walls were stained & in need of repaint. Damaged kitchen table & strange stains on windows. Bathroom units damaged. Rusty window fixings. Gaps beneath wall letting in ants. Overall very unloved accommodation, Beds & linen & kitchen were well cleaned by staff. Villa was not ready at check in time Staff response was that between check out & check in time it was a big villa to clean - 1) they aren’t big 2) not really the guest’s problem! The pool area at pestana alvor beach villas is dated with weeds & cracked tiles. There are unused abandoned buildings & broken fences. The grounds are a mess. Feels like a forgotten holiday location. Despite all this these are not inexpensive villas….. Avoid! Book a nice villa somewhere else instead! *As per update information hotel management did make contact after our stay and offered suitable recompense in our opinion*
