Pelican Alvor

We stayed 9 nights in a studio apartment with pool view. We were amazed at how spacious and well equipped the apartment is and the size of and view (far sea view) from the balcony is great too. The place has the feel of a good hotel but with the freedom a self catering holiday gives you. The pool area is a good size with plenty of sunbeds and parasols available, the only slight niggle is the usual inconsiderate Brits who "bag" their sunbeds by 9am - blah blah blah. It gets boring to moan about it really, but it is annoying as you end up feeling pressured to do the same, then it's a vicious circle, but hey ho, perhaps the hotel could at least try and stop people doing this? The bar is good, serving all day and into the evening, but seemed to shut relatively early, which we didn't mind but might be worth noting if you like to have a late-night drink or two. We had snacks (sandwiches etc) only which were tasty, if a little on the pricey side. There's a great supermarket about 5 minutes walk away, which you'll find everything you need for your holidays. The seafood selection is incredible if that's your thing. It's about a 20 minute stroll down to the main town of Alvor, which we were happy to do each evening, in the main town there's plenty of choice of restaurants and bars that cater to most tastes and ages. We liked the bars down by the harbour as we could sit and watch the sunsets enjoying a g&t before wondering off to eat. We are returning to Alvor and the Pelican this year, so would highly recommend to couples wanting a quiet, restful holiday. However, I wouldn't necessarily recommend to families with children of any age as it doesn't really cater for them.

This is a nice hotel, with spacious rooms and communal areas. The pool area is nice and there were sufficient sunbeds when we visited. The location is good - 10 min walk in to Alvor or 5 euro in a taxi. The only negative is the room cleaning. They say you get daily room cleaning with bed sheets and towels being changed every 4th day. However, the daily room cleaning only consisted of making the beds, changing the bins and folding the towels. The floor was not swept or mopped once during our stay and we were there for a week - it was disgusting after a few days of being in and out and my 2 year old pottering around (it wasn’t that clean when we checked in either). The cleaning is really below par and does need to be improved.

Highly recommend will definitely be back. Very quiet location. Apartment was lovely huge balcony. Air conditioning very good. No issues getting sun lounger. Snack bar is good well priced. Staff all lovely & very helpful. Supermarket 5 minutes away. €4 in uber down to bar & restaurants.
