Stayed here a night enroute to Monteverde and it was a mixed experience. They gave us room #1 which is next to the main entrance hence noisy. There was a lot of noise from the neighbouring house too. The room itself is okay but the bathroom is just very tiny. If you’re sitting on the WC your knees may hit the wall in front! The fan in the room generates no breeze so it gets hot and stuffy during the day until the place cools down at night. Breakfast was okay. I would not stay here again.

Terrific hotel with lovely staff. We stayed here on either end of our Costa Rica vacation as it’s close to the airport. Delicious breakfast. Clean, comfortable beds and nice courtyard. Walkable neighborhood with great restaurants nearby.

Located near the airport, this affordable hotel was perfect for a late arrival in the country. Reception staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The property has a lot of character and charm. Our room was simple but very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was cooked to order and very good. I’m glad we stayed here and would definitely stay again when flying into or out of Costa Rica.

Pros: Very kind staff, comfortable beds, interesting historical architecture, walkable to several good restaurants, good banana bread. Cons: No airport shuttle (many other places have free shuttles). with traffic (weekdays 6-9am, 3-7pm) it took 25 minutes from SJO so plan accordingly based on flights. breakfast doesn't start until 7:30 so if you have an international flight before 9:45/10am the breakfast is banana bread and coffee. very noisy (front door, everyone who says anything in the hallway, lots of loud street noise). no AC (why not just put a unit in every room?). We were charged extra $20 for our child (we're a family of 4 and the room has a king and a bunk bed) so not sure why we were charged extra for a 4 person room. While it was fine, I wouldn't stay here again.

Located about 10 minutes away from SJO Airport, we found it was a great hotel to stay after a long flight : really sweet staff, cute place. Just wish we couldn’t hear as much of what was happening in the hallways. Overall would totally recommend if you’re looking to spend a couple of nights in San José :))

We thoroughly enjoyed our five night stay. The staff is friendly and helpful. The included breakfast is tasty and the coffee is excellent. The rooms are comfortable with good channel selection on the TV. The hotel is a block from the main square. As soon as you enter, you know you're in a cool spot. A real strength is the people at the front desk. They have a wealth of information & advice.

Great hotel with amazing staff, excellent breakfast and comfortable room - awesome hot shower too. They arranged a great tour of Poas volcano, waterfalls and coffee farm for us. Our tour guide Ricardo was so knowledgeable and generous with his time. We highly recommend this hotel in the heart of Alajuela!

Alajuela City Hotel is a perfect little place to stay near the airport. It's clean and comfortable, with a friendly helpful staff. Unlike an expensive sterile hotel, it is a bit like overnighting with family. Alajuela City Hotel has great security without the walls and gates that make you feel trapped, like in some other nearby hotels. Charles, Heather, Carlos and other staff, make you feel at home, provide a delicious homemade breakfast, good coffee and will assist you with any of your needs. I love the little courtyard that attracts gorgeous birds in the morning, who accompany guests with amazing coffee and homemade banana muffins.
