Kurulu Bay

Kurulu Bay was my home for five nights as part of a private yoga retreat. The experience offered by the property and staff is truly special. The rooms are beautifully designed and appointed, and the jungle in which they are housed is perfectly maintained. A range of wildlife also call the property their home, including some very entertaining monkeys. The resort is secluded, however the local town of Ahangama is accessible on foot or a short tuk tuk ride, although there is no reason to want to leave the property! The food served by the restaurant is fresh and tasty, with a wide range of Sri Lankan and western offerings available. The staff is what makes this place exceptional. Petar and Tiana are wonderful and attentive hosts, and go above and beyond to ensure your stay is the best possible. Thank you both for a magnificent week at Kurulu Bay. I cannot wait to return 🐒

I spent a few nights at Kurulu Bay and honestly didn’t want to leave. The setting by the lake is absolutely beautiful! The food was fresh and delicious. And the staff were lovely, warm, helpful, and clearly passionate about the place. I can only recommend it to anyone looking for peaceful and restorative holiday!

We stayed at Kurulu Bay in the Hora cottage, which was aesthetically pleasing and beautifully designed, blending seamlessly with the jungle environment. However, we did encounter some issues with mice over two nights of our stay. While this was initially disappointing, the manager’s response was exemplary. They moved us to the Heli cottage, where we had no further issues, and went above and beyond to make amends by refunding a night’s rate, offering complimentary meals for the remainder of our stay, and expressing heartfelt apologies. Their genuine effort to remedy the situation made a huge difference and left a positive impression. The jungle setting at Kurulu Bay is a perfect retreat—peaceful, serene, and incredibly relaxing. During our stay, a retreat was being held, and I was initially worried it might impact our experience. However, I couldn’t have been more wrong. If I hadn’t been informed, I wouldn’t have even noticed it was happening. The ambience remained tranquil throughout, and it felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. One highlight that simply cannot be missed is the kitchen at Kurulu Bay. The food was absolutely amazing—each meal was a culinary masterpiece. Even when dishes featured the same protein, the flavours were distinct and perfectly balanced. Every bite was an experience in itself. If you’re ever in the area, I would strongly recommend visiting the restaurant, even if you’re not staying at Kurulu Bay. Despite the initial hiccup, the overall experience was phenomenal. The combination of stunning surroundings, attentive staff, and incredible food makes Kurulu Bay a destination I would wholeheartedly recommend. The care and hospitality we received turned what could have been a negative experience into a truly memorable one. Don’t hesitate to visit—you won’t regret it!

What a treat to spend a week at Kurulu Bay, the entire experience was nothing short of exceptional. The resort has been tastefully blended with nature changing the design of the buildings rather than cutting down any trees which really makes you feel like you are staying in the jungle. I could have watched the monkeys all day they were a delight. The staff were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble and all the little details were taken care of without you realising. Food was delicious. Petar was born for hospitality and really goes out of his way to make your experience at Kurulu Bay spectacular. I had a very minor issue with a room whilst I was there which was handled very well and way beyond my expectations. Thank you to everyone at Kurulu Bay for a truly wonderful week.

From the moment you enter Kuluru Bay you realize you are in a special place. A lush green tastefully manicured oasis where the facilities have all been built with special care not to disturb any of the original trees. The tasteful rooms are thoughtfully placed within this tropical jungle paradise. The service and attention to detail is simply perfection. A walk to the dinning room takes you through giant trees where you might see monkeys with their small babies swinging through the lush canopy. The dinning room, with a full staff of cooks and waiters, offers Sri Lankan and International dishes. All prepared to perfection. The rooms are large and very tastefully designed with every amenity you could ask for! Another real 10 out of 10 experience!

Whenever we get a chance, we pack up and explore as much as possible with the family. This time, our destination was Kurulu Bay, and from the moment we arrived, it felt like we had stepped into paradise. The location and surroundings instantly transport you to a new world, creating a calming atmosphere. The architecture and attention to detail in the lush jungle setting, combined with breathtaking views of Koggala Lake, create a serene environment perfect for yoga or just relaxing by the tranquil lake. The 13 spacious suites are minimalist and beautifully blended into the landscape, with monkeys and birds adding to the natural charm. The two swimming pools were a great addition to the property, and our favorite was the one next to the restaurant. It was so convenient to have access to the kitchen whenever we wanted food or drinks. One of the highlights of our stay was the deck overlooking Koggala Lake. We spent the entire evening there, watching birds and the stunning sunset. The kids loved it. The food was exceptional, with every meal freshly prepared and full of amazing flavours. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly, always going the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable. From the restaurant team to housekeeping, everyone was welcoming and helpful.
