Waipi'o Lodge

This was an amazing experience, but it's not for everyone. First of all, it is a ”hostel” - it's not a motel, and it's not a B&B. It is way off the beaten path, and is quaint. But, it has a lot going for it. First of all, it is minutes away from the Waipi'o Valley lookout. Even if you don't do a tour down to the valley, the lookout itself is a must-do. We were driving from Kona to Hilo, and wanted to stop midway for the night, and the location was perfect for that. The hostel itself was super clean, and cute. You have 3 bedrooms in the main building and two ”tents” outside. I put the word tents in quotes because they are quite large with high ceilings and hardwood floors. Calling them tents is just not doing them justice. They are a bit more private than the rooms, so if that's important to you, or if you're traveling with kids, it might be a better option. As the descriptions says, you do share the bathrooms, but the number of people is small, and the place is kept very clean. It is really nice and quiet. The biggest attraction is the garden. As a guest, you are allowed to pick any fruit from the property. We had fresh tangerines, papayas, oranges, and some other exotic fruit I didn't recognize for breakfast. We also picked and roasted some macadamia nuts too. Everything was very delicious. The place is also well stocked with tea, coffee, and other essentials. There is a fridge and outdoor kitchen for people to use. We really enjoyed socializing with the other people staying there. If you're looking for a quiet and unique experience and the chance to taste some fresh fruit right off the tree, this is the place to go. If you need room service, it's not for you.

Hale 'Ohu Bed & Breakfast

A very cozy little homestay with three rooms. The sisters take care of everything together. They renovated all the rooms after they took over here last year. All the facilities are brand new and the rooms are very spacious. As the flight was delayed for 4 hours, it was already more than 8 o'clock in the evening to the hotel. They also called Ctrip to remind us that the front desk would leave work at 6 o'clock, and attached a detailed self-check-in guide. Follow the instructions and everything goes well. Stayed for two nights. Fresh juice, banana cakes, fruit bowls and homemade puddings were available in the refrigerator. Yogurt and coconut cakes were provided for breakfast the next day. Each room was equipped with a microwave, drip coffee machine and hot water bottle. The banana cake is a big piece, and I only finished breakfast in two days. So there is no chance to taste the coconut cake at all, a pity. Because it is newly decorated, the bed is equipped with a power socket, and there are two USB ports, voltage and converter problems are all solved. This is the third time we have come to the Big Island. We have already experienced at least six hotels and homestays of all levels. This is really rare in the local area. The only downside is that the soundproofing is really not good. The uncle next door is snoring like thunder. So earplugs at the head of the room can be considered a solution.
Hilo Bay Oceanfront Bed and Breakfast

This 102 yr old home, now B&B, was the perfect experience. From meeting us at the car and carrying our bags in, to all the amenities, to the great menu choices for breakfast, the friendly tips on places to go, where to eat diner, it was wonderful. The rooms were beautiful wood paneled luxury. Tastefully decorated and furnished. Within 10 minute walk to downtown. Quiet. Plenty of parking. Literally perched over the ocean. No A/C wasn’t a problem…the ever present ocean breeze was all that was needed . The sound of waves gently breaking below our room led to blissful sleep. Highly recommend. Grab the largest room if available…includes a cozy nook for relaxing.

The hotel was fixed, but because the trip was cancelled, there was no check-in, and the first day’s payment was deducted. Unfortunately.

Kona
The hotel is in a good location, just around the corner is the beach, and there is a great sea view restaurant. The view inside the hotel is shown in the first picture, which is beyond imagination. How about the room? The air conditioner is an old-fashioned window air conditioner, blowing directly at the head of the bed, which is very noisy. The bathroom is also relatively old, and the water pressure and water temperature are relatively stable. The bedding is quite comfortable. The hotel also has parking spaces, which is car rental friendly. Overall, it's 4 stars
