Popular Holy Week Traditions

Holy Week

During Holy Week, you may see many traditions across the Philippines. These practices show the strong faith and community spirit of many Filipinos.

  • Visita Iglesia: Families or groups visit several churches in one evening to pray, usually on Holy Thursday.
  • Processions: Many towns hold large religious processions, especially on Good Friday. People walk through the streets carrying statues of saints and scenes from the life of Jesus. The Santo Entierro, a statue of the dead Christ placed in a glass casket, is often the highlight.
  • Pabasa: Communities hold the Pabasa, a continuous chanting of the Pasyón, which tells the story of Jesus’ life and sacrifice. It may last for many hours or even days.
  • Senakulo: Some towns perform a Senakulo, a live street play that shows the Passion of Christ. These performances can draw large crowds.
  • Fasting and Simple Meals: Many Filipinos avoid meat on Good Friday and eat simple food such as fish, vegetables, or traditional snacks like biko, suman, and binignit.
  • Quiet Reflection: Some families stay at home, pray together, or watch religious programs on TV.

Different regions celebrate Holy Week in their own way, so travelers may experience different traditions depending on where they visit.

🏨 Pro Tip: Book your hotel early during Holy Week, as many popular destinations can fill up quickly during this busy travel period.

Why Filipinos Travel During Holy Week

Many people travel back to their provinces to spend time with family and attend church activities together.
  • Family vacations
Some families plan short trips to popular beach destinations like Boracay, Cebu, and Bohol.
  • Taking a break from the city
Travelers from busy cities like Manila often head to cooler places such as Baguio or Sagada to relax.
  • Time for reflection and rest
Others choose quiet places where they can pray, attend church events, and reflect during the Holy Week period.
💡 Travel Tip: The biggest travel rush is on Holy Wednesday and Maundy Thursday, with many people returning on Easter Sunday or Monday. Expect heavy traffic and crowded terminals.

Our stay at Henann Regency Resort & Spa was truly worth it. The food was consistently good, and we especially loved the breakfast buffet every morning—you’ll definitely leave full because everything they prepare is delicious. We would like to commend Essa from reception, who was very kind and accommodating. She gave us a great room location that was conveniently near the beachfront, which made our stay even more enjoyable. When we checked the room, we noticed a minor issue with the cabinet door of the fridge, but maintenance fixed it right away, which we really appreciated. The room itself was clean, and all the amenities were excellent. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, even those you simply pass by. Special mention to Dannah, who was very jolly and kind—she really made a positive impression on us. Overall, our 4-night stay was amazing. If we could have stayed longer, we definitely would have. Highly recommended hotel!

This hotel offers a comfortable stay with easy access to public transportation since it’s located along the roadside rather than beachfront. The staff are accommodating and helpful, and the rooms are clean and nicely maintained. Buffet breakfast has plenty of options and tastes decent, while the warm pool is perfect for night swimming. There are a few areas that could be improved. In our room, the shower controls weren’t working properly since water still flowed even when the knob was fully turned off. One night, we were woken up by loud guests arguing in the lobby. They seemed drunk from a party and the noise carried as they walked to their rooms, which was unpleasant. The hotel was worth the money and perfect if you’re willing to pay for comfort. While not beachfront, its convenience, service, and amenities make it a solid choice for a relaxing stay.

We loved our stay at Henann Palm Beach in Boracay! The beachfront location on White Beach is unbeatable — soft white sand and stunning sunsets right in front of the hotel. The rooms are modern, clean, and very comfortable, with a relaxing tropical vibe. The infinity pool overlooking the ocean is a highlight and perfect for cooling off after time in the sun. Breakfast offers a great variety, and the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. If you’re looking for a stylish, well-located resort with amazing service and views, Henann Palm Beach is a fantastic choice.

The Worst Hotel Experience I Have Ever Had I have stayed in countless hotels and resorts around the world, but this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. Our company booked six rooms for a team-building trip. Since our staff were arriving at different times, we registered five different employee names so each person could check in when they arrived. However, when we arrived at the resort, the staff said that all six rooms were somehow registered under the first name from Room 1, and they refused to let anyone check in unless that specific person arrived first. This made absolutely no sense. The person who paid for the booking was present, and we clearly showed the Trip.com app, the official voucher, and the names of all employees staying in the rooms. Despite all of this, the staff repeatedly said check-in was impossible. What makes this even worse is that there was absolutely no notice anywhere saying that the first guest must arrive before anyone else can check in. Instead of helping us solve the problem, the staff simply told us to wait in the lobby indefinitely with no solution. I have lived in the Philippines for many years and have stayed many times at resorts in Bohol and Boracay, including several Henann Resorts. I have also traveled to many countries. However, I have never experienced such rigid, unhelpful, and unprofessional service. To make matters worse, no manager came out to assist us, even after we asked multiple times. For a resort that claims to offer quality hospitality, this level of service is completely unacceptable and honestly below even a one-star standard. This experience was extremely disappointing and frustrating. I would strongly recommend future guests double-check their booking policies before staying here.

The breakfast buffet was amazing, and our room was spotless. On Chinese New Year's Day, they even gave us a complimentary dinner buffet, which was a really thoughtful touch. The hotel provides towel cards (the towels were warm when we received them, having been high-temperature sterilized), which is super convenient for island hopping and swimming at the beach. It's also very close to D'Mall, making it incredibly easy to grab food and shop there daily. Just turn right out of the hotel, and a small path leads directly to the beach, offering stunning views. Separately, I had booked round-trip ferry and shuttle transfers to Boracay with Bamboo, but I lost my voucher right before our trip. I asked around outside the hotel without success, but when I returned to the front desk, they made a call and sorted everything out for us! On top of that, they even sent a sewing kit to our room late at night when we needed one. I'm so incredibly grateful for all their help! 👍👍👍 My 73-year-old dad had a wonderful time, and it was a very pleasant vacation.

The in-room amenities are pretty standard, similar to what you'd find in a 1000+ RMB per night hotel back home – nothing special, nothing bad, just average. The 2300 RMB per night price mainly covers the hotel's private beach, services (kids' club, with daily craft classes and occasional pool parties), and the public facilities (three pools, including a kids' pool). We stayed for 10 nights, and when we checked out, they provided complimentary transfer to the airport (car + speedboat + car). We only had to pay the government's environmental protection fee and island entry fee ourselves. This service was absolutely excellent! When you check out, you might want to ask if they can offer this service. If it's your first time staying and you want an airport pick-up, I recommend contacting the hotel directly, as the airport transfer fee through Ctrip for this hotel is very expensive. The hotel is next door to the Movenpick Resort, and then next to that is the Shangri-La Hotel. You might want to compare prices.

This hotel is absolutely top-tier for its price point. Incredible value for money and a fantastic experience overall. While the location was a bit tricky to find, the hotel offers a wealth of amenities. The pool is great fun. For this price, it's unbeatable, even better than some five-star establishments. Apart from looking a little dated, the overall vibe is excellent, giving off a real resort feel. The breakfast spread is extensive and even better and more varied than what you'd find at five-star hotels, which was a very pleasant surprise. Seriously, at this price, just book it without hesitation.

To the Management of Astoria Current, We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful experience we had during our stay at Astoria Current from September 29 to October 1, 2025. Our family booked three rooms, and we are very pleased with the overall service and facilities provided by your hotel. The rooms were comfortable and clean, the facilities were well-maintained, and the location was perfect, especially for enjoying the beach. We especially loved the slippers provided, which were very convenient to use by the shore. We also want to commend the delicious breakfast offerings. Our family truly looked forward to it every morning, and it became one of the highlights of our stay. Most importantly, we want to recognize the excellent customer service we received from your team. All the staff were friendly, accommodating, and professional. In particular, we would like to commend Mr. Ollie Atienza, who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. His warm assistance left a lasting impression on us. We are also thankful to your team for making our father’s birthday more special during our stay. It meant a lot to our family and added to the memorable experience we had at your hotel. Overall, everything about our stay was excellent, and we would be more than happy to return. Our stay at the Savoy Hotel was amazing. We had a lot of fun by the pool, at the gym, or playing ping pong. We also got a massage at the Lila spa that we really enjoyed. Our room was comfortable, clean, there was a balcony. Our towels were changed every day, garbage was picked up, sheets were changed every other day. The staff were great, polite, attentive, helpful. They deserve a lot of praise, especially the shuttle bus driver, Chris, who really made our trip even better providing a lot of information about the island and the Philippine tradition. The food was tasty. The breakfast buffet offered a variety of food. The Newcoast beach is a walking distance from the hotel, and the famous Keyhole is nearby that beach. The dmall and white beach area are just 20 mins away by free shuttle bus. Thank you, Savoy, for such a wonderful experience! 🤗

We stayed at the hotel from February 19th to February 22nd, 2026, and we loved everything about it! If you're looking for a peaceful getaway, this is the place. The hotel is situated on a hill, a 15-minute walk from Puka Beach. The climb can be a bit challenging, but if you're in good health, it's perfectly manageable. There's a shuttle service to D'Mall every hour or two, and they can drop you off anywhere you like along the way, essentially taking you across the whole of Boracay. The rooms have an Asian style, so if you're expecting luxury or Dyson hairdryers, this isn't for you. A plus for us was the huge, cinema-like TV with YouTube in our room. The staff were excellent, especially the bald guy at the front desk with the charming smile – unfortunately, we didn't catch his name. The breakfasts were great by Filipino standards; if anyone complains, they should try other hotels in the same price range. Definitely keep your balcony doors closed; monkeys were tugging at our door handles every morning! Thank you for a wonderful stay, we'll definitely be back!

The hotel is quite worn out and, especially during holidays, not worth the money. Our room was in building B; it was spacious and quiet, making for a comfortable sleep. However, the windows faced an alley between buildings, so very little daylight entered. The air conditioning worked well but was very noisy. The internet worked fine in the lobby and on the beach, but it was very weak in the room. There are a few sun loungers and cushions on the beach, but you need to claim them by 8 AM, or even earlier. By 9 AM, everything is usually taken. The loungers don't have soft mattresses. You can get beach towels and mats from the lobby if you don't manage to get a sun lounger. There's an infinity pool on the rooftop where you can watch the sunset away from the crowds, but there are only a few loungers there too, so you also need to get there early. Breakfasts include various types of meat, scrambled eggs, rice, fruits, pastries, toast, coffee, some sweets, and vegetables. Overall, you'll be full, but everything is cooked with a lot of oil. I wouldn't recommend having lunch or dinner here or ordering food by the pool; there are many cafes and restaurants nearby where you can eat delicious food. In the evenings, there's always some entertainment at dinner, like music or a fire show. The hotel is located in the most central part of Station 2, just steps from D'Mall, with Epic and Om clubs nearby. However, for us, there were too many people, especially from sunset onwards. There were also many vendors offering their services and goods, which got annoying, and many people just strolling around or sitting on the beach. It was noisy and lacked any sense of privacy. Cleaning consists of changing towels and emptying the trash.

Shore Time Hotel has a fantastic central location—you only need to cross the street to reach White Beach, which makes everything very convenient. The hotel is small but comfortable, and all the staff, especially the housekeeping team, work very hard and are friendly. With a few small updates in painting and decoration, the hotel could look even better. The green wall color feels a bit too strong, and some decorations seem outdated. One small surprise was the restaurant downstairs. I was charged 250 pesos for a simple takeaway mango smoothie, which felt a bit expensive. This hotel is awesome! It truly felt like visiting grandma for summer vacation, bringing back so much nostalgia. We were very comfortable staying here. We initially stayed in a deluxe room – it was spacious and super! The decor was a bit old-fashioned, but that wasn't a drawback; it was part of its charm. Later, we extended our stay and moved to a standard room, which was also comfortable. It was smaller, of course, but had a more modern interior. However, it didn't have a fridge, which was a downside. All the rooms absolutely match the photos on the website. There's a wardrobe, hangers – everything you need to store your personal belongings. The room was very clean, which is always important to me, especially during long stays. Housekeeping and linen/towel changes are available upon request. The breakfasts were wonderful, hearty, and offered a great selection to suit all tastes. The staff were simply lovely, so kind and ready to help with any questions. The location is also excellent, tucked away (in the middle of the island) at the border of Stations 1 and 2 – you couldn't ask for a more convenient spot; everything is nearby, and there's no noise. Just a heads-up: the hotel doesn't provide tea/coffee sachets or shampoo/toothbrushes, only soap. You'll need to bring all of that with you, especially tea! Finding tea in the Philippines is generally a struggle – it's very expensive in stores and there's not much selection; they even sell it individually! 🙈 Next time I visit this country, I'll definitely bring my own. I've attached photos of the standard room and the breakfasts. I didn't even photograph the deluxe. It's great that all rooms have a balcony or terrace with a table and chairs. The only thing missing for my complete happiness was a kitchen where I could occasionally cook something when I got tired of restaurant food. In short, your place is beautiful, cozy, green, and soulful. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

Our recent stay at Astoria Boracay was a fantastic experience for our family trip! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome and went out of their way to accommodate us. The location is unbeatable—right on Station 1's beautiful beachfront, which is perfect for families looking to avoid the more crowded areas of Boracay. The rooms were modern, spacious, and very clean. They had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable, and we loved the beach-inspired decor that felt cozy and tropical. The pool area was another highlight for the kids, and there were plenty of lounge chairs for us to relax while they enjoyed the water. Breakfast was a treat every morning with a great selection of local and international dishes that catered to all our tastes. The on-site restaurant also had a fantastic menu for lunch and dinner, with dishes that gave us a taste of the local flavors as well as family-friendly options. Another plus is the easy access to nearby shops and dining options along the beach path, so we could explore the island without any hassle. Astoria Boracay is truly an ideal choice for families looking for a mix of relaxation and adventure. We highly recommend it and can’t wait for our next trip back! :)

been in this resort last 2015 and we booked it again this time after a decade, some changes in the hotel and added extra rooms to accommodate more guests. even the restaurant they make it an airconditioned resto. only when they had a brownout it takes time to troubleshoot the genset to bring back the power causing issue with water supply at an early morning time, I know it's a, rare case but still give the resort a 5star review

We had a great time enjoying a private experience. Asya provides a peaceful and serene experience with spacious villas and a gorgeous site. The location secludes itself from the busy part of boracay while still having the privilege of sharing the entire stretch of white beach. You can appreciate the quiet moments here while also having access to boracay’s main scene. Having stayed here before, I really appreciate staying here for those reasons. Not to mention, the entire staff really takes care of you here.

Everything was amazing , The staffs are so kind and welcoming always willing to help. The room was neat , close to white beach , around 8 minutes walk. Their breakfast was amazing , I always chose the Filipino breakfast as the fish was yummy. The American breakfast was amazing as well especially the pancakes and French toast. The swimming is on the roof top and has An amazing view to look at the sunset 🌅. They also have a rooftop bar , they have great food and cocktails. I will definitely be back to Ferra when I travel to Boracay. As a first timer in the Philippines, Thank you for making me feel welcomed. 😘

It's not a perfect place to stay with family, but for solo travelers I would say it's great. Its bar and live music is something that makes difference especially in the evening. On the other hand you can enjoy it while being guest of other hotel. It's nested in tropical forested resort. A bit dated but still passable and nice place. For this price I would say it's a great choice.

Boracay Sand at Station 3 offers a peaceful escape away from the busier parts of the island. The staff were consistently friendly and attentive, making check-in and daily service smooth and hassle-free. Rooms are clean and well-kept, with all the basic amenities you need for a comfortable stay. The quieter beachfront location is perfect for relaxing, yet still within walking distance of restaurants and activities. Minor upgrades in room furnishings would make the experience even better, but overall the excellent service makes it easy to recommend.

Me and my partner had an amazing stay with Mandarin Island Hotel. Everything stood out. Shortly after arriving at the property, we were greeted by warm and lovely employees. Welcomed like a family. They’re very attentive to evrything that you need. Complimentary Asian and Western breakfast buffet was the best. Also, the property is located to almost everything. From local restaurants, bars and especially it’s a beach front hotel. Would love to stay here again in the future.

We stayed here for three nights. The first room we stayed didn’t have a window (room 106). As I am claustrophobic, I asked for a different room, the front desk staff kindly accommodated my need from the second day on. It seems that they have several rooms that don’t have a window, so if you are like me, please let them know in advance. The location is convenient as it’s close to station 2. While the majority of station 1 hotels are more secluded and quiet, this hotel was never so as it’s located at the main boat station and there are tons of tourists hanging around the property. There are lounge chairs, but those are often used by the tourists who were waiting for their boat to arrive. The breakfast was mixture of Filipino and Chinese food. Different selection everyday but still ok. The room was dated but we appreciated the fridge and air conditioner. The beach mats and towels were available for free and that was also nice. The best thing about this hotel was the staff! They tried their best to accommodate the guests’ needs. We enjoyed our stay because of them.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff were accommodating, and they granted our requests whenever possible. What I really loved was how friendly the staff were—they greeted us every time, no matter how many times they saw us. Requests such as early check-in were possible as long as there was an available room. The house rules were clearly explained and not too strict. What pleasantly surprised us was that we had access to the swimming pool at La Carmela Hotel, which made our stay even more enjoyable. This place is great for simple family trips and for couples. It’s within walking distance to the beachfront and close to everything.

Great location, spacious rooms, excellent breakfast, and lovely Filipino staff. The only downside was a drainage issue in the shower, but we overlooked it. The turquoise, crystal-clear sea overshadowed that minor flaw. If you're hesitant about choosing this hotel, go for it – you won't regret it!

The hotel left a very pleasant impression. I'd like to highlight its key advantages, which made our stay comfortable and delicious. Pros (things that really impressed us): 1. Location: The hotel is in a very convenient location. What's also valuable is the peace and quiet. It's not as crowded as Station 1 or 2, but all amenities are easily accessible. 2. Room: We had a wonderful room with direct access to the pool. This is a huge plus: you can jump right in the water in the morning or sit by your mini-terrace in the evening. The room is clean and comfortable. 3. Staff: A special thank you to the hotel staff. They are very kind, conscientious, and do their job well. All requests were resolved quickly, with a smile and a genuine desire to help. You can feel their genuine care for their guests. 4. Cuisine/Breakfast: Breakfast was included in the price and was a real highlight of the morning. Very tasty, filling, and varied. But the biggest discovery was the vegetarian breakfast. It was so delicious and filling that I ordered only that for the last few days of my stay. A major drawback / Beware (personal experience): Be careful when leaving the hotel grounds. There are tour vendors (excursion vendors) standing near the hotel. Unfortunately, they're not very reliable. We encountered them actively pushing services, and then they might change the terms after the deal. I recommend either booking excursions in advance at trusted locations or ignoring the guys at the entrance to avoid ruining your mood. Bottom Line: Banana Bay Boracay is a real find. It offers the perfect balance of price, quality, peace and home comfort. The amazing staff and hearty vegetarian breakfasts made our stay almost perfect. I'd return without a second thought, but I'll be giving the vendors at the entrance a wide berth.

This is our second time staying at Giulius Boracay Italian Resort, and it never disappoints! The location is perfect — very close to everything you need: D’Mall, the beach, restaurants, and transportation. The staff are very nice and accommodating, and the rooms are clean, spacious, and well-maintained. We also love that the resort has a pool for swimming, which is great for relaxing after a day at the beach. Another big plus is that they allow guests to borrow banig and towels to bring to the beach, which is super convenient! We truly enjoyed our stay again and will definitely come back on our next Boracay trip. Highly recommended!
