San Francisco
Date Change
Due to unique circumstances, the date of this event moved to June 22nd. The date was previously June 8th.
Avid cuddlers Cuddle Clinic!
This event is for people who've previously attended at least 3 official Cuddle Parties that have been facilitated by Cuddle Party Inc. certified facilitators.
It will rely on your knowledge and experience from previous events, and will allow you to explore cuddles with other experienced folx!
If you haven't yet participated in Cuddle Parties and would like to join us in the future, you can sign up for them here:
sfcuddles.eventbrite.com
Here's some information about what to expect:
What's the difference between a regular party and this Cuddle Clinic?
This is not a Cuddle Party
- While Cuddle Party rules still apply, it will not be structured the same way.
A shorter Welcome Circle =
more time for cuddling
!
You will be cuddling with other experienced cuddlers = meaning easier consent conversations that flow.
There will be an
optional workshop clinic
led by Yoni during the cuddling portion - this will allow you to practice certain aspects of consent and cuddling.
We'll likely have a smaller crowd since only Avid Cuddlers can sign up.
Building stronger bonds with familiar faces.
Are the rules the same as a regular Cuddle Party?
Yup! We'll have a quick and easy refresher on the 11 rules, and do a few exercises to get us in the mood for consent communication.
Is this still a fully vaccinated and boosted event?
YES! For the safety of everyone, all participants must be fully vaccinated and boosted.
SOME REMINDER NOTES:

SOME MORE INFO ABOUT CUDDLE PARTIES:
The Live Greater Series
:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-WwqwyGUlk
Cuddle Party is a formal, non-sexual event that offers participants an opportunity to explore intimacy with like-minded others, in a relaxed environment, that upholds personal boundaries and maintains a professional atmosphere, at all times. People are encouraged to engage in communication and touch, in a non-threatening, share-affirming environment. Cuddle Party is a holistic, social environment, that attracts fascinating people from all walks of life. It provides a special and unique opportunity for connection, learning and growth.
Cuddle Party experiences teach participants that they alone (with the staff's assistance) create their own safety container. How does it change people's lives? Many of us have a hard time saying NO to requests, and saying no might make us feel afraid that we will hurt the other person. Very rarely do we get a chance to practice saying NO, or practice getting a NO in a safe and nurturing environment.
But it's not all about the NO, it's also about the YES! We practice saying YES to one another, and asking for what we want, and changing our minds - all very important skills that we don't put an emphasis on in our everyday lives. It's transformative for people!

ROBERT P. BAIRD at Books Inc. in the Marina | Books Inc.
Jun 23, 2025 (UTC-8)
San Francisco
Join us at Books Inc. in the Marina in welcoming debut author Robert P. Baird to the shop for a celebration of his new novel The Nimbus! Robert will be in conversation with The Language of Flowers author Vanessa Diffenbaugh! An exhilarating debut novel about a child whose literal enlightenment sets the stage for an exuberant tragicomedy of marriage, religion, and parenthood. On an otherwise ordinary fall day on a university campus in Chicago, the toddler son of an ambitious divinity school professor named Adrian Bennett mysteriously starts to glow. The nimbus, as the strange, soft light comes to be known, offers no clues to its origin and frustrates every attempt at rational explanation.
Though the nimbus appears only intermittently, and not to everyone, the otherworldly glow quickly upends the lives of all those who encounter it, including Paul Harkin, Adrian’s broke and feckless graduate student, who likes being a graduate student a little too much for his own good; Renata Bennett, Adrian’s omnicompetent wife, who can’t see her son glowing even though the nimbus is turning her life upside down; and Warren Kayita, a down-on-his-luck librarian and aging div school alumnus on the run from a violent criminal. As news about the nimbus spreads around the university and beyond, Adrian, Paul, Renata, and Warren are set on a collision course that will threaten their lives and put their deepest convictions to the test.
At once a rollicking intellectual satire, a searing portrait of a family in crisis, and a thrilling metaphysical page-turner, The Nimbus offers a comic and profound examination of the persistence of spiritual belief in a secular age and humanity’s timeless search for meaning. Robert P. Baird holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago Divinity School, and has worked as an editor at The New Yorker, Harper’s Magazine, The Paris Review, Esquire, and Chicago Review. He has written for all those publications, as well as for The New York Times, The London Review of Books, The Guardian, and Poetry, among others. His work can be found at www.robertpbaird.com. Vanessa Diffenbaughis the author of the New York Times bestselling novel The Language of Flowers, which was translated into more than forty languages. A mother of four, she lives with her husband in Monterey, California. In addition to being a writer, Vanessa Diffenbaugh is a passionate foster care advocate and sits on the board of Youth Villages, where she supports their mission to radically improve outcomes for America’s most vulnerable children and families.

Their Accomplices Wore Robes: The Supreme Court vs. Black America | 220 Montgomery St suite 100
Jun 26, 2025 (UTC-7)
San Francisco
Co-presented with KALW
A magisterial new history of the role of the Supreme Court as an ally in implementing and preserving a racial caste system in America,
Brando Simeo Starkey
’s
Their Accomplices Wore Robes
takes readers from the Civil War era to the present and describes how the Supreme Court aligned with enemies of Black progress to undermine the promise of the Constitution’s Reconstruction Amendments: to abolish slavery, establish equal protection under the law, and protect voting rights. Time and again, when petitioned to make the nation’s founding conceit—that all men are created equal—real for Black Americans, the nine black robes have chosen white supremacy over racial fairness.
Their Accomplices Wore Robes
brings to life dozens of cases and their rich casts of characters—petitioners, attorneys, justices—to explain how America arrived at this point and how society might arrive somewhere better, even as today’s federal courts lurch rightward. In conversation with KALW’s
Sunni Khalid
.

Mary Ziegler on What’s Next for the Battle Over Abortion | The Commonwealth Club
Jun 26, 2025 (UTC-7)
San Francisco
Join us to hear about the legal and philosophical arguments at the cutting edge of the abortion debate.
In her new book,
Personhood
, UC Davis law professor Mary Ziegler argues that simply undoing
Roe v. Wade
has never been the endpoint for the antiabortion movement. Since the 1960s, she says, the larger goal has been to secure recognition of fetuses and embryos as persons under the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, a step that the modern antiabortion movement contends would make liberal abortion laws unconstitutional.
Ziegler chronicles the internal struggles and changing ideas about race, sex, religion, war, corporate rights, and poverty that shape the personhood struggle over half a century. She explores how Americans came to take for granted that fetal personhood requires criminalization and suggests that other ways of valuing both fetal life and women’s equality might be possible. She argues that the battle for personhood has long been about more than abortion: it has aimed to overhaul the regulation of in vitro fertilization, contraception, and the behavior of pregnant women; change the meaning of equality under the law; and determine how courts decide which fundamental rights Americans enjoy.

‘Este dechado’: The Making and Meaning of Mexican Samplers | Koret Auditorium
Jun 28, 2025 (UTC-8)
San Francisco
This is a free in-person lecture for all. The lecture will also be streamed and recorded over Zoom for which you can purchase a ticket. A zoom link will be emailed to all ticket holders before the event begins. TAC members do not need to purchase a Zoom ticket. A Zoom link will be emailed to you before the event. A recording will be emailed out and available to watch for 14 days following the talk, for TAC members and ticket holders. “Este dechado” means “this sampler.” It is a phrase often found stitched on the schoolgirl samplers of girls and young women living in Mexico. With these words, the young sampler makers ask us to pay attention to their work - look carefully, interpret the meaning, understand the process, and appreciate their accomplishments. In Mexico, as in all western European countries and their colonies, needlework was an extremely important part of female education – all girls were taught to sew and most were expected to demonstrate their embroidery skills by creating a sampler. In the 18th- and early 19th-centuries, elaborate dechados made from sumptuous material by daughters of Mexico’s elite socio-economic classes were viewed as testaments to the girls’ religious virtue and a culmination of their needlework instruction. As the Mexican government assumed more responsibility for the education of its citizens, the making of dechados became more widespread and the importance of fancy needlework gradually changed. In this richly illustrated presentation Dr. Anderson will provide an overview of girlhood samplers made in Mexico across time – the materials, formats, needlework techniques, instructional sequence, and possible meanings underlying some of Mexico’s distinctive motifs. In addition, she will introduce a few of the girls who embroidered Mexican samplers; provide insight into the educational options available in urban and rural areas; and discuss the impact of an increasingly secular educational system on the production and appearance of Mexican schoolgirl needlework. Using images of Mexican dechados from her own collection, as well as collections in Mexico and the United States, Dr. Anderson will present a curated view of Mexican schoolgirl samplers – their making and their meaning. Dr. Lynne Anderson is a retired University of Oregon professor of education with a passion for researching schoolgirl samplers and for supporting sampler scholarship worldwide. Lynne is the founder and President of the Sampler Consortium, an international membership organization for individuals and organizations interested in the study of historic samplers. It posts on Instagram (@samplercentral) and sends out a monthly newsletter with information about exhibitions, lectures, collections, publications, and other sampler-related events. Lynne is also the Director of the Sampler Archive Project, a national initiative to locate, photograph, and document all American schoolgirl samplers so they can be included in its publicly accessible online database (samplerarchive.org). In this context Lynne and her team work with museums, historical societies, private collectors, and dealers to photograph and document the samplers and related girlhood embroideries in their collections. Lynne is also a frequent speaker at national and regional venues, has curated and co-curated multiple sampler exhibitions, and is the author of numerous sampler-related publications. Lynne has been collecting and researching Mexican samplers for more than a decade. She has studied private and public collections of Mexican samplers in both Mexico and the United States, and collaborated on research with the foremost scholars of Mexican girlhood embroidery. Juanita MORE! Pride Beneficiary Statement, 2025
Each year, I have taken great pleasure in seeking out some of our community's most impactful organizations as beneficiaries. This year, I have chosen the
Transgender Law Center
(TLC) as my annual Pride Party beneficiary. This national organization advocates for the rights of transgender and gender non-conforming people.
TLC was originally California's first state-wide transgender legal organization and has a long history of victories for the trans movement. Over the years, it has helped win trans workers' rights nationwide, protected trans students, and revised the San Francisco "
Regulations to Prohibit Gender Identity Discrimination
."
When I heard about the great work the Transgender Law Center was doing, especially its direct legal expertise, strategies to keep transgender and gender-nonconforming people alive and thriving, and the committed fight for liberation, I knew that I had to support them. So, in 2009, I named TLC my annual Pride party beneficiary.
The current state of the US government regarding transgender individuals is distressing. The growing movement against transgender rights nationwide made me choose the Transgender Law Center as this year's beneficiary. Now, more than ever, our transgender and gender-diverse families need our allyship and support. Advocating for those most vulnerable to recent legal restrictions must be a priority, as members of the transgender community are currently experiencing multiple barriers to success at an alarming rate.
I want to make sure our trans family has a place to exist publicly and receive the healthcare, education, and legal recognition they need to thrive in our world.
Loads of Love, Juanita
Transgender Law Center Mission Statement
Founded in 2002, Transgender Law Center (TLC) has grown into the largest trans-specific, trans-led organization in the United States working to set all people free. We champion the right of all transgender and gender-nonconforming people to make their own choices and live freely, safely, and authentically. Prioritizing BIPOC, disabled, and HIV+ communities, we advance community-driven strategies that harness trans knowledge, power, and joy to ensure that we all not only survive but thrive at all ages and phases of life.
