The Vigil of Santiago and Santa Ana | Seville
Celebration
The Santiago and Santa Ana Festival (Velá de Santiago y Santa Ana), commonly known as the Triana Festival, is Seville's oldest festival, boasting a history of over eight centuries. A popular tourist destination in Andalusia, it takes place around July 26th each year, commemorating the festival of Santa Ana, the patron saint of the district. During the festival, Calle Betis is filled with casetas (traditional market stalls), Plaza del Altozano hosts concerts every night, and the famous Cucaña procession takes place on the Guadalquivir River—one of the district's most spectacular events. The activities include a formal opening ceremony and announcements, concerts at 10 pm every night in Plaza del Altozano, a Cucaña party at 6:30 pm daily on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, and traditional folk competitions such as chess, fishing, and pétanque. The Parish of St. Anne will hold a novena, a Mass, and a procession of the Virgin Mary, which will pass through the streets of Triana.
