About Marina Lommerse Marina is one of Fremantle’s celebrated artists. Her wanderlust has taken her around the world and through several careers. Over her residency at Terrace Greenhouse (28 May to 15 June 2025) Marina will be showcasing her love of the natural world inspired by her travels. Her studio clean-out sale will include elements from her eclectic creations over the last decade — paintings, sketches, installations and sculptural basketry. 'Sculptural basketry is a relatively new medium for me. I was looking for ways to extend my paper flower installations with a more robust material to make more permanent installations. Over the last three years I have incorporated basket making techiques into several of my works. My most significant basketry piece is my Everlasting Country sculpture which hangs 3.6 meters from floor to ceiling. The installation suggests the shapes, patterns, shadows and movement of a field of everlastings in the sharp Australian sunlight under a cobalt blue sky. It received the People’s Choice Award in the York Botanic Art Prize in 2023.'

She has been commissioned to create Immersive experiences with thousands of handmade paper flowers for Crown Casino Resorts, FORM, the City of Claremont, and a community art-making project in Myanmar. Her Everlasting Country sculpture received the People’s Choice Award in the York Botanic Art Prize in 2023. This work celebrates the humble everlasting, perhaps the most visible and emblematic endemic flower in Western Australia. My installations immerse the spectator in the often-unnoticed intricacies and beauty of the subject. She creates abstracted flower forms magnified to express the feel, texture, patterns and form. Elements of each specimen are painted, cut, assembled, and shaped. The magnified size gives the viewer an insight into the structure and complexity of the flower.' About Marina Lommerse Marina is one of Fremantle’s celebrated artists. 'My botanical work extends into ephemeral paper flower installations. The magnified size gives the viewer an insight into the structure and complexity of the flower.'
