Japanese Art History à la Takashi Murakami | Gagosian Gallery
Dec 10, 2024–Mar 8, 2025 (UTC)ENDED
London
Gagosian presents Japanese Art History à la Takashi Murakami, an exhibition of new paintings by Murakami at its Grosvenor Hill gallery in London. In this presentation, the artist pursues his fascination with the narrative of Japanese art by offering his own interpretations of historical paintings. By “Murakamizing” these iconic images, he ponders the erosion of the nation’s ancient splendor; he also considers the ways in which it has been impacted by new aesthetics and values associated with its opening to the West after the end of the Edo period (1603–1868).

Rethinking the British Museum | The British Museum
Dec 19, 2024–Mar 2, 2025 (UTC)ENDED
London
Help shape our future. This display, in the newly reopened Reading Room, sets out the bold visions of five internationally acclaimed architectural teams to transform the British Museum's 'Western Range'.
Comprising about a third of the Museum's galleries, the Western Range includes the Egyptian sculpture gallery, the Parthenon Sculptures and the Assyrian lion hunt reliefs – and we have shortlisted five architectural teams with whom we will work on an ambitious transformation of the gallery spaces, public areas and back-of-house facilities.
We've invited the teams to present their visions with a focus on innovative ideas rather than a finished design, which you can view in this display. The teams must balance the Museum's architectural heritage with a forward-looking, visitor-focused experience.

Piet Mondrian to Alison Wilding the Karsten Schubert bequest | The British Museum
Jan 28–Apr 21, 2025 (UTC)ENDED
London
This display celebrates the bequest of 10 drawings to the Museum, including works by Pablo Picasso and Bridget Riley, by art dealer Karsten Schubert.
Born in Berlin, Schubert (1961–2019) was a long-term supporter of the British Museum. He established his first eponymous gallery in London in 1986 after working at the Lisson Gallery, London, where he became familiar with the avant-garde British art scene. Although he exhibited and sold modern and contemporary art, he had a deep knowledge of art history and museums were important to him throughout his life.
Drawn from Schubert's own collection, the bequest entered the Museum following his death at the age of 57. It includes early 20th-century drawings by Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) and Piet Mondrian (1872–1944) as well as drawings by artists with whom Schubert worked and whose art he sold: Bridget Riley (born 1931), Georg Baselitz (born 1938), Michael Landy (born 1963) and Alison Wilding (born 1948). In addition to his bequest, Schubert donated 45 works on paper to the Museum during his lifetime, a selection of which are also shown here.

Asinine presents: DSM IV, ELLiS•D and DH Temple | Voodoo Daddy's
Feb 1, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
London
Our first announcement of 2025 consists of an eclectic line up of psych, garage and synth! We are super excited to announce we have the INCREDIBLE DSM IV joining us! We are celebrating Independent Venue Week in style! Formed and fronted by Guy Mcknight of the cult favourite The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, Liverpool based DSM IV have won over audiences throughout the UK with their strangely seductive noise-rock, synth pop industrial sound. They’ve supported acts such as The Sleaford Mods and The Libertines, captivating audiences throughout the country with their surreal sound and immersive live performances. Joining DSM IV is ELLiS•D! ELLiS•D is a drummer turned solo artist, backed by a near continuously shifting set of session musicians on tour. Jangly, threadbare riff with hook-smeared repetitions and explosive, abstract vocals - mixed with psych-driven instrumentals. His latest single ‘Humdrum’ delves into darker sonic territories reminiscent of the Wytches mixed with the Talking Heads. ELLiS•D recently announced they are supporting Fat Dog on some EU dates! And opening the show is DH Temple! DH Temple is the solo project of used car salesman turned “kind of big deal around here”, Dom Temple. In his own words: “music is a side hustle for my main goal of getting my own reality tv show and eventual talking heads documentary” This isn’t a show to miss so make sure you grab your tickets in advance for 8 quid!
