May 15, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Denver
Cultural Experiences
Discover the edible abundance all around you in this two-part foraging series through our FED Workshop programming! Join us for a hands-on experience as we explore the art of foraging, from your own backyard to the wild landscapes of Colorado. Part 1: Foraging in the Wild, May 15th Venture into nature with Andy from Foraged.com for a wild foraging experience near Chatfield Park. Andy will familiarize you with wild edible plants and foraging concepts through an introduction, then lead an hour-long foraging walk through the natural landscape. Afterward, enjoy a cooking demonstration highlighting the uses of wild-harvested ingredients. Part 2: Foraging in Your Backyard, May 29th Led by Kate, the Urban Forager , this session will take place at Fleischer Family Farm, where you'll learn how to identify edible plants right outside your door. After an introduction to foraging, we'll embark on a guided hour-long walk to spot backyard, wild edibles. The experience will conclude with a cooking demonstration featuring simple, delicious ways to use your foraged finds. Both sessions will equip you with practical knowledge and confidence to begin your own foraging journey — whether in your backyard or deep in the woods. Pleasae Note: Exact locations will be shared after tickets are purchased. And, when you purchase a ticket, make sure you are picking the date you want to attend. About Our Instructors: Kate Armstrong Since 2009, Kate has been teaching about wild plants for edible and medicinal purposes as well as leading walks in the Denver area as the Urban Forager. She grew up on a small, diverse farm in the 1950’s learning about plants from both her mother and grandfather, who started the botany department at Furman University. Building on this foundational knowledge, she has since acquired 3 degrees pertaining to teaching, received a Master Composter certificate from DUG, helped to implement a sustainability committee initiative in Edgewater, and currently teaches a variety of local courses. Kate currently instructs on topics such as salve making from common plants, canning and preserving foods, composting skills, and foraging in urban environments. Her depth of knowledge on local plants is bountiful and abundant. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from such a well-rounded, interesting urban forager! Andy Conner Andy is the co-founder and head of product for Foraged . With the help of Jack Hamrick, he set out in early 2021 to build a marketplace community of like-minded food entrepreneurs who are collectively altering the food industry as we know it to be more traceable and local. Prior to starting Foraged, Andy worked as a full-time web developer and published nature photographer traveling to beautiful and remote locations around the US. When he isn’t working on Foraged, you can find Andy in the woods with his dog Luna looking for delicious wild edibles or photographing beautiful natural landscapes far from the beaten path. The Sweet Lillies | Swallow Hill Music - Daniels Hall

May 17, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Denver
Concerts
Doors 7PM/Show 8PM About The Sweet Lillies The Sweet Lillies’ music is, first and foremost, heartfelt and collaborative. Those defining traits are given life by the quartet of musicians who make up the Lillies, Julie Gussaroff, Becca Bisque, Dustin Rohleder and Jones Maynard. Together they have combined their individual strengths to deliver powerful narratives of life in song. With their lineup of guitar, viola, upright bass, drums and ethereal vocal harmonies that float like a dream, the Sweet Lillies’ music has a hard hitting original flavor with a forward-looking eye. The Sweet Lillies have incorporated all of their cumulative life-experiences into their music, song-writing, and artistry, crafting an uncommonly-beautiful style they have christened “Progressive-Americana” – a nod to the band’s all encompassing musical tastes and willingness to experiment with genres ranging from folk and rock all the way to hip-hop. As Gussaroff explains, “some musicians learn from teachers, some learn from family members, and some are self taught. Some musicians are classically trained, some come up through folk, some draw from multiple springs, from hip hop through pop to bebop. In the Lillies’ all of these skill sets are valuable, relevant, and appreciated.” The Sweet Lillies are built upon their collaborative ideals and are always ready to share a stage or develop a project with any musicians who share the same “no-holds” barred creative approach. This has made each one of their inventive, energetic live-shows a wholly unique event as setlists are changed on the fly, songs are given new life and shape, and guests are always welcome to join in the creative explosion. Those on-stage partnerships create a space for incorporating instruments, arrangements, and styles that are not necessarily typical of the genre, but that help create a rich, compelling sound that defies easy categorization. Over the years they have been joined onstage by a number of legendary performers including Sam Bush, George Porter Jr., Peter Rowan, Sally Van Meter, Andy Hall from the Infamous Stringdusters, Kyle Hollingsworth and Jason Hahn from The String Cheese Incident, Jennifer Hartswick, and Natalie Cressman from the Trey Anastasio band, among many others. Andy Thorn from Leftover Salmon, who has sat in on many of those live adventures, says, “It’s always a joy to play with the Sweet Lillies. Over the years, I’ve seen them evolve from a folk-and-bluegrass group into a genre-bending powerhouse. Today, at a Lillies show, you’ll hear everything from their beautiful, soulful originals, to creative reinventions of your favorite 90s hip-hop tracks. They’re always ready to have fun – on stage and off – without losing an ounce of their professionalism.” Information Source: Swallow Hill Music | eventbrite

Cris Williamson presented by KGNU | Swallow Hill Music - Daniels Hall

May 18, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Denver
Concerts
Doors 6PM / Show 7PM About Cris Williamson Long before indie labels were the norm, and years before women had any real access to the industry, Cris Williamson, was busy changing the face of popular music. In 1975, the twenty-something former schoolteacher recorded The Changer and the Changed , for her brainchild, Olivia Records , the first woman-owned, woman-focused record company. Her music and voice quickly became an essential part of the soundtrack of a movement, and was the cornerstone of what would become known as “women’s music,” music created, performed, and marketed specifically for and by women. Today, that recording, The Changer and the Changed , remains one of the best-selling independent releases of all time. For Cris, the music has always been the vehicle for something larger. Her work appears on a regular basis in books and thesis papers, on radio and film. Her albums are part of the curriculum for women’s studies courses, and thousands of people join their voices in “Song of the Soul” around campfires and places of worship. She is embraced by women. She is sampled in hip-hop. Her work on display at the Smithsonian. Her music is used by midwives welcoming life into the world, while hospice choirs sing her songs in tender sacred escort. “She is often considered a treasure, passed hand-to-hand, person-to person,” says the Boston Phoenix , “Williamson is a heroic character whose tireless activism continues.” Today, with 33 full albums to her credit, Cris continues to tour the acoustic circuit, promoting her latest album Harbor Street , and adding new material at each juncture. Her performance career includes three sold-out shows at Carnegie Hall and the headlining of many of the great folk festivals, including Newport, Kerrville, Moab and Vancouver. Cris continues to be a fearless trailblazer, an avowed feminist, and an out and proud lesbian – decades before it became an accepted industry norm. Cris and Judy Dlugacz, President and co-founder of Olivia Records, were honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award bestowed upon them by the Americana Music Association at the Annual Awards Ceremony at the illustrious Ryman Theatre. The award was presented by Ann Powers, NPR Music Critic, who said “ The Changer and the Changed became Olivia’s signature work. It’s a beautiful record, Americana through and through in its blend of country, folk and deeply personal songwriting. Over the years Cris has created a profound body of work, and Changer remains its crown jewel, and the label that birthed it, Olivia, became the foundation for a genuine and far-reaching community.” 2025 marks the 50th Anniversary of The Changer and the Changed and Cris will begin the celebration early, including some of the favorites in her shows, as well as premiering brand new works from her forthcoming new album to be released this Fall. A graduate of the University of Denver, Cris last visited Denver to open the festivities for the Women’s March in 2017! This is Cris’s first time at Swallow Hill! “Denver is one of my longtime homes. Can’t wait to be back and play Swallow Hill!” – Cris Information Source: Swallow Hill Music | eventbrite

Cacao + Heart Opening Breathwork | Kalo Fitness

May 20, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Denver
Cultural Experiences
At KALO (Greek for "beauty that is more than skin deep"), we believe that both beauty and wellnesss start from within. In addition to our women's strength training services, we also offer sauna/cold plunge therapy and breathwork to cultivate a foundation of nervous system regulation, deep connection to purpose/legacy, and authentic connection to others. During this special breathwork journey we will offer pure, ceremonial grade cacao (always optional) which is known for its heart-opening properties and has been used in ceremonies for centuries, particularly by indigenous cultures in Central and South America. The act of consuming cacao can serve as a powerful tool for setting intentions for the breathwork journey, helping to focus and align your energies towards your goals. It is also a heart opener, which naturally allows for depth, kindness and connection. We will cover 3 different types of breathing: 360 breath (the foundational element of all breathwork), breath for vagus nerve activation (calms the nervous system), and circular or concious connected breath (too many emotional + physical benefits to list, but we will cover many in class). From there, you will be led through a beautiful breathwork journey with intentional music that will incorporate all of these techniques into one beautiful flow. We will end with meditation. No previous breathwork experience is required to attend this session. All levels will benefit, and be encouraged to move at paces that are comfortable. This class will be led by Jourdan Baldwin, KALO Co-Owner and breathwork guide with extensive training in XPT breathwork, pranayama, conscious connected breathwork, and nervous system regulation via the Polyvagal Theory. Jourdan has studied and applied principles of somatic processing, breath mechanics, and stress physiology in her coaching and facilitation, creating an experience that is both deeply embodied and transformative. Please bring: blanket, pillow, water bottle and anything else you need to create a comfortable space. Contraindications: Concious Connected breathwork is a powerful practice that can bring about deep physical, emotional, and psychological shifts. However, it may not be suitable for everyone. Below is a list of potential contraindications where caution or consultation with a healthcare provider is advised before participating in somatic breathwork: Cardiovascular Conditions : Severe hypertension or hypotension, recent heart attack or stroke, arrhythmias or other severe heart conditions Respiratory Issues : Severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), severe respiratory disorders Neurological Conditions : Epilepsy or a history of seizures, severe migraines or chronic headaches, recent brain injury or surgery Psychiatric Conditions : Severe anxiety or panic disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (unless under professional supervision) Pregnancy : Somatic breathwork can involve intense breathing patterns that may not be safe during pregnancy, especially if there is a history of complications. Eye Conditions : Glaucoma or retinal detachment (due to increased intraocular pressure during intense breathing) Recent Surgeries or Medical Procedures : Particularly abdominal or thoracic surgeries, any surgery with restrictions on exertion or deep breathing Feel free to reach out to us at jourdan@kalofitness.com if you have any personal or specific questions regarding these contraindications. As a rule of thumb, always consult with a healthcare provider before beginning somatic breathwork if you have any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns.
