Important Notice This programme is open to members of the National Library Board, Singapore. Please ensure you have your myLibrary username on hand before proceeding with the registration. If you do not have a myLibrary username, you can create one here: https://account.nlb.gov.sg About the Programme We all know about rice as it is a staple food in Singapore. However, is rice all the same? You may have seen rice in various colours such as red, purple and black, and wonder how they can be cooked. In this hands-on workshop, we invite you to share about the rice you eat, and also to make paper mache bowls with rice as a binder. While you make, perhaps also share a story, memory, or even a family recipe about the rice you eat. If you are up for it, bring a cup of your rice to exchange with us or another participant? Your bowls and stories will be part of an art display in our upcoming CANVAS/S exhibition, showcasing a meaningful blend of memory and creativity through rice. About the artist Wild Dot is a nature-guided studio from Singapore started by Shirin Rafie and Liz Liu in 2020. Combining their interests in art, botany, and design, they have been experimenting with inks and pigments from plants and earth found in Singapore, and are just beginning to uncover the stories behind the colours people make. Their mission is to share the joy and labour of colour making through designing playful artmaking experiences with others. They also hope that the process of making can be an accessible way for more people to form more meaningful relations with the environment. About CANVAS/S: Tales as New as Time Take a fresh look at an old tale with our exhibition series CANVAS/S: Tales as New as Time. With art installations that respond to the story of “The Two Widows” as depicted in Singapore Children’s Favourite Stories, come experience the exhibition happening at Jurong Regional Library. Each iteration of CANVAS/S is proudly helmed by local artists or collectives. At the exhibition, get up close and personal with the artworks and discover more about the techniques and thought process behind the art. Looking for a deeper experience?
