About the Film:
No Other Land [2024 / 92 minutes]
Academy Award Winner: Best Documentary Feature 2025
Basel Adra, a young Palestinian activist from the community of Masafer Yatta, has been fighting his community’s mass expulsion by the Israeli occupation since childhood. Basel documents the gradual erasure of Masafer Yatta, as soldiers destroy the homes of families — the largest single act of forced transfer ever carried out in the occupied West Bank. He crosses paths with Yuval Abraham, an Israeli journalist who joins his struggle, and for over half a decade they fight against the expulsion while growing closer. Their complex bond is haunted by the extreme inequality between them: Basel, living under a brutal military occupation, and Yuval, unrestricted and free. This film, by a Palestinian-Israeli collective of four young activists, was co-created during the darkest, most terrifying times in the region, as an act of creative resistance to Apartheid and a search for a path toward equality and justice.
Aurora Film Society
Since 2018, the Aurora Film Society (AFS) has been broadening our community’s collective horizons by screening great movies together. When we make our film selections, we are looking for movies that our subscribers would not normally have had a chance to see, award-winning films, or films with some historical significance. As a 501(c)(3), we do not take any political stance. However, we are excited to have the opportunity to show a film that is both Oscar-winning and not readily available for viewing as a special event for the community.
We screen our regular offerings every third Wednesday of the month at The Venue.
