Back again this year, because we had so much fun last year, is the Optimist Club of Aurora Road Rally 2026 This year our Road Rally will be held on a Saturday, May 23rd, 2026. Same fun, same location at 15783 Yonge Street, Highland Chev Olds in Aurora. Cost per car is $50 which includes free BBQ lunch for all. Prizes will be awarded! They regularly invite student jazz ensembles to join them and will provide guest clinicians. This is a way to get these budding musicians into a real world environment playing the music they love in addition to an auditorium in front of parents or classmates. Additionally, the PEBB has hosted numerous fundraisers at their events to help raise money (and food / toys) for local non-profits such as Loaves & Fishes, Toys for Tots, Kids Matter, Kidz Cabaret, Youth Symphony of DuPage, Naperville Educational Foundation, Gil Ellman Memorial Fund, and more! To Pete, it is all about giving back to the community to help kids, in general, and also to give kids an opportunity to participate in the arts. Pete has worked full time at Ellman’s Music Center since 1985, having worked in nearly every position in the company, from repairman to outside sales representative to purchasing agent to janitor. With that kind of overall experience, he has a uniquely complete vision on how to run the business. Pete continues to play professionally and has performed with nationally known artists such as Wayne Newton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aretha Franklin, Bob Newhart, Chicago Sinfonietta, and many more. Being a trumpet player, Pete’s favorite artist to date has been world renowned trumpeter Wayne Bergeron. Pete attended DePaul University and majored in Music Performance. Peter attends many industry specific and financial seminars including NASMD, NAPBIRT, and NAMM. Join the York Symphony as we present a musical program which includes three of the great Nordic masters: Sibelius, Grieg and Wiren. Jean Sibelius's Symphony No.2 was first performed in Helsinki in 1902. It is widely regarded as one of Sibelius's most popular and emotionally resonant symphonies, often interpreted as a symbol of Finnish national spirit. Throughout his life, Sibelius was consistent in his emphatic denial that the Second Symphony was based upon any nationalist program. Still, it is not surprising that the Finnish people continued to find a personal message of hope in this fiercely dramatic and triumphant work by their greatest composer. To this day, the Symphony No.2 remains a source of inspiration and pride for the Finnish people, as well as a mainstay of the symphonic repertoire.` Grieg's Piano Concerto is widely considered his most popular compostion. The work reflects Grieg's desire to create music that felt like "villages" rooted in Norwegian folk idioms rather than grand, abstract temples. The concerto's enduring appeal lies in its blend of Romantic passion, nationalistic colour and accessible lyricism which Tchaikovsky described as possessing a "fascinating melancholy" that reflects the beauty of Norwegian scenery. It is impossible not to love the youthful, catchy tunes, brilliant timbres and flashy virtuoso passages of this piece. We are pleased to welcome pianist Vanessa Yu to perform this Grieg masterpiece. Wiren's Serenade for Strings would prove to be his most popular piece. The work quickly became a hit around the world, especially in Great Britain where a part of the Marcia (4th movement) for many years served as a signature tune to the BBC's valued cultural programme Monitor.
