Hyatt Place Melbourne Essendon Fields

This hotel has the worst service of any Hyatt I have ever stayed at. The overall staff was absent-minded, and no one ever answered the front desk phone or room service. Several times we had to run downstairs to communicate with the front desk. There are no bathrobes in the hotel, which is the first time I have encountered this.

Stayed here as a Diamond Ambassador in an iconic suite - Check in experience was great, warm welcome, benefits acknowledged and welcome drink provided. Amazing room, ridiculous amount of space, comfortable bed, great little office/working area. Unfortunately, the general level of service/care factor is lacking especially when staying in a room costing over 1k a night! One of my complimentary water bottles was open/used and about half empty, yuck. Later that day I wanted to use my $25 credit on the minibar 200ml bottle of gin (which is listed as inclusive of 4 mixers). Gin was missing from the mini bar I couldn't find it. Called down to reception to ask if it was by request, they assured me it should be there and would send someone up. Waited 2 hours and no one came which frustrated me as I was waiting so called down again and was assured someone was on the way. Someone did arrive with a huge bag full of everything except the gin. When questioned didn't seem to know what I was talking about, I had to point to it on the minibar menu and was met with a very confused expression, he left. Then about 30 minutes later a different person arrives with the gin bottle, success. However upon checkout there were a bunch of mini bar items charged which I hadn't consumed, and in fact were not even missing. I hate having to have that conversation but after only 3 words they were ”happy to remove them” which makes me think this isn't an uncommon occurrence. I later noticed that the mixers were charged as well where as they should have been included with the gin purchase cost, but I couldn't be bothered wasting my time to try and sort it out. Club lounge service was attentive but did fill up and get quite busy in the evenings however my drink was always topped up and the staff there were friendly and engaging. Temperature control seems non-existent in the room and I'm convinced it makes no difference what you set it to. I had my do not disturb on until mid morning, so as I was leaving for the day dropped by reception and said I may have missed housekeeping and could they have someone make up the room. Arrived back a few hours later and it hadn't been done. All up a real mixed bag here, but can't help feel my simple requests were a bother and inconvenience.

Unfortunately the hotel was in the middle of a construction site when we visited which made getting in and out by foot a little challenging at first. Staff are great and the facilities are also top notch.

A very enjoyable stay in an excellent hotel. The reception, housekeeping, and breakfast service staff were very friendly and efficient, and the room was spacious, comfortable, well-equipped, and very quiet. The location is also very good, being on the edge of the city centre and only a 5-minute walk from the Skybus airport bus service platforms, Southern Cross Station, and an outlet centre shopping mall. There’s also a Coles supermarket across the road. The continental breakfast was also very good value. I hope to have the opportunity to stay here again in the future.

Wonderful location within the CBD, near multiple tram stations and QVM. On Sunday (our second night of stay), housekeeping left a note saying that she did not make the bed because there were personal items on the bed. Have never heard of this reason before. Housekeeping on other days were fine

After staying here for one night I can easily say that was one night too many! First finding the place; simply put it can be easily missed. After three rings of the bell someone finally came out to check us in. Usually at check in, you get a run down of wifi or breakfast especially if it’s part of your booking, yeah none of that. Room - look it was adequate and if one was able to sleep through the unknown noise at 12am (outside) and the constant slamming at doors my personal favourite at 2am then you’d be fine. The bathroom was well yeah, massive crack in the glass, framework barley holding on with the rusted screws, dirty towels and even after turning the tap on and the mechanism to just have the shower head on, one also got a foot bath as the bath tap also stayed on. Breakfast- oh my lordy here we go, buckle up. We wandered down just before 9am breakfast is 6-10 so keep that in mind as you read on. When we arrived we were the only people, I nearly fell as there was a ramp which wasn’t easily noticed as you walked your way through the iggly piggly placed tables. There was a worker whom was dressed in chef clothes mopping the area, no greeting either. The food well look maccas would’ve been much better and much hotter!! There was hardly any food left in the ‘warmers’ the what I assume was French toast was absolutely disgusting! Due to the lack of hot food I opted to get some toast, well the machine was turned off and not just at the appliance but the wall!! The tea and coffee situation was all over the place; cup from here, tea from there, hot water over here and milk over there. Maybe make it make sense? And to top it off as one would expect, more and more guests started to come in for breakfast and guess what? No more food was cooked!! So safe to say with the poor amenities, the dreadful breakfast, the tripping hazards and most of the rude staff - yeah don’t come here!

The hotel environment is great, a buffet breakfast of 20 knives can be bought, and the taste is good. The hotel is a single building with a lot of entertainment venues, about 15 minutes away from the Melbourne Hotel. It's easier to find.
