🇰🇪 MOMBASA, KENYA | Discovering Kenya’s Coastal Soul Where Africa Meets Arabia

NAING LIN TUN
NAING LIN TUN
When people hear Africa, many people imagine endless safari landscapes, wild animals, and an expensive adventure.

I used to have the same impression.

But sometimes, the best journeys begin with a simple decision.

While looking for my next adventure from Kuala Lumpur, I found an affordable flight opportunity and decided to finally experience Kenya.

That decision brought me to Nairobi, a city where modern skyscrapers stand beside wildlife, where different cultures meet, and where every corner tells a story.

After spending four unforgettable days here, I realized Nairobi is not just a gateway to safari.

It is a destination worth discovering.

· --

🇰🇪 4 Days Exploring Nairobi

Day 1 — Discovering Kenya's Capital City

My first day was about understanding Nairobi's history and urban life.

I started at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), one of Nairobi's most iconic landmarks, where I enjoyed a beautiful view of the city skyline.

I continued to the Kenya National Archives, discovering Kenya's history and cultural heritage.

Then I visited the Kenya Railway Museum, which tells the story of Kenya's railway development and its important role in connecting the country.

I also stopped at Jamia Mosque, one of Nairobi's most recognized religious landmarks.

My first impression of Nairobi was unforgettable, a city full of energy, diversity, and contrasts.

· --

Day 2 — Wildlife in the Heart of a Capital City 🦒🦁

The highlight of my Nairobi journey was Nairobi National Park.

What makes this place truly special is its location.

It is one of the rare places in the world where you can see wildlife with a modern city skyline in the background.

Watching giraffes, zebras, rhinos, and other animals while seeing Nairobi's buildings in the distance was an experience I will never forget.

I visited early in the morning when animals are more active, making the safari experience even more memorable.

After that, I continued to the Giraffe Centre, where I had the chance to get closer to Kenya's beautiful Rothschild's giraffes.

I also explored Nairobi Safari Walk and learned more about wildlife conservation.

· --

Day 3 — Discovering Kenya Beyond Safari

Kenya is not only about wildlife.

It is also about its people, traditions, music, and food.

At Bomas of Kenya, I experienced traditional performances showcasing Kenya's diverse cultures through music and dance.

I continued to the National Museum of Kenya, where I learned more about the country's history, nature, and heritage.

Of course, food was also an important part of my journey.

Exploring local restaurants such as Bin Agil Catering and Giriraj Fast Food – Laxcon allowed me to experience Nairobi's multicultural food scene.

· --

Day 4 — Experiencing Nairobi's Local Soul

After discovering Nairobi's wildlife and history, I wanted to experience another side of the city, the everyday life and creativity of local people.

I visited Karen Blixen Museum, learning about Kenya's colonial history and the story behind the famous author of Out of Africa.

Then I explored a Maasai Market, where I discovered handmade crafts, traditional artwork, and unique souvenirs created by local artisans.

Before leaving Nairobi, I relaxed at Westgate Shopping Mall, enjoying the modern side of the city and preparing for my next adventure.

This day showed me that Nairobi is not only a safari destination.

It is a city with culture, creativity, and soul.

· --

🚆 Day 5 — Continuing My Journey to Mombasa

My Kenya adventure continued with the famous SGR train journey from Nairobi to Mombasa.

The train ride itself became another unforgettable experience.

Watching Kenya's changing landscapes through the window, from the city to the countryside and towards the coast, gave me a completely different view of this beautiful country.
