Luoke Former Residence

The former residence of Locke is in Yuhu Village, and it is integrated with the surrounding houses, as if he still lives here. Visiting the former residence costs 25 yuan per person, just pay the maintenance fee. Locke's experience is worth understanding.

Joseph Rock is an Austrian-American explorer, anthropologist, botanist and famous Naxi scholar. He entered Yunnan from the Thai-Myanmar border in 1922 as a writer and explorer, and conducted a 27-year study in Lijiang. During this period, he collected extensively the national culture and local plant specimens, and took Lijiang as the location of the American Geographical Society's Yunnan Adventure Headquarters. Locke has conducted an in-depth study of the history, geography, language and folk customs of the Naxi people, and his book "Gunaxi Kingdom in Southwest China" introduced the geographical features, humanities and historical culture of the southwest China to the world. The Lock Memorial Hall in Lijiang Old Town is designed to commemorate Joseph Locke's outstanding contribution to Naxi cultural research, inheritance and international visibility in Lijiang. The old residence offers a lot of old photos, including Locke himself and a huge research team. Through the history of black and white photos, you can see precious scenes and even photos of local toasts and Mufu. Ticket 25, by the Naxi old lady selling tickets at the door, wearing the Naxi seven stars Dai Yue, enthusiastically guide us to the tour path, and there are several Americans on the way to visit together. The exhibition hall said that Locke studied Naxi culture at his own expense in the later period, and hoped to be buried in Lijiang before he died. He felt that he was really loving it.

Joseph • Locke is an Austrian-American botanist, explorer, geographer. In 1922, Joseph • Locke entered Yunnan, China, from the Thai-Myanmar border, as an explorer, writer, photographer and other identities in the National Geographic Journal of the United States and the Yanqing Botanical Institute of Harvard University. Since then, he has lived under the Yulong Snow Mountain for 27 years, and Xueyan Village is the headquarters of Locke's Chinese expedition, and Locke has lived here most of the time.
