Churches and Cathedrals

St. Andre's Church is Singapore's most famous church, located on the high ground of the city center and has a history of more than 100 years. This white Gothic church is famous for its high spires and sacred atmosphere, attracting many newcomers and tourists to visit. The exterior of St. Andre's Church uses a bright white color, which is one of its most proud features. It is said that this white paint is a practical and beautiful plaster made by grinding the shells into a ash, adding protein and sugar to a paste, and then soaking into the soft coconut shell. It is coated on the surface of the building, it is not easy to crack, and it is white and glossy. Overall, St. Andre's Church has become one of Singapore's landmarks with its unique architectural style and sacred atmosphere.

The environment is very, very good, especially the surrounding scenery can be said to be invincible. You can enjoy the many landmark buildings and attractions in the Gulf of Singapore. The night view at night gives people a more shocking vision.

The white exterior wall of the church is not too big in the surrounding buildings. There was no one inside at noon, but the surrounding area was more bustling and lively, and there were many restaurants and cafes.

Zhanmeihui Church is not big, very close to Chinatown. This is the earliest church in Singapore, and the very elegant tone is impressive. However, when we passed by, we may have passed the opening time and cannot go in and visit. It is a pity.

The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes is a Catholic church in Singapore and is located in the heart of Singapore's Central Business District. Founded in 1888, the Church of Our Lady of Loud is a neo-Gothic building with good proportions and exquisite details, and is said to be modeled on the same name building in the French town of Loud. It is very different in style from the nearby Little India and Arab Streets.

Hougang is a planning area and residential town located in the northeast of Singapore. The town is the most populous in the northeast region, with 247,528 residents as of 2018. Hougang is connected to Shenggang in the north, to Geylang and Shilonggang in the south, Belo to the southeast, Daba Kiln to the southwest, Bayeri to the east, Hongmao Bridge to the west, and Bishan to the southwest. The planning scope of Hougang is divided into ten partitions. Subdivisions are: Hougang East, Defu Industrial Zone, Dacheng, Luonong Harus, Port Foot, Hougang West, Luonong Wanguo/Wanguoqing, Luonong Asu, Gaowen and Hougang Center. The name Hougang is derived from Fujian dialect and Chaozhou dialect. Hougang was once a woodland and pig farm. In 1979, the Housing Development Bureau announced that it would create a new town in Hougang. In 1980, due to the promotion of the Chinese-speaking movement by the Singapore authorities, many new towns were changed to Chinese pinyin names, and the English name in Hougang was changed from Hou Kang to Hougang. In the 1990s, pig farms were gradually dismantled. Most of the early Chaozhou people settled in Shilonggang 5th to 7th half stone, that is, the early back port or today is called Gao Wen. From 7th half stone outside the scope of a port, that is, the local people called the port foot (Chaozhou dialect: Kang-kar). After the 1980s, due to the rapid development of the new town, the southern part of Punggol also became the current center and new town of Hougang. The southern part of Punggol Road also became the 8 roads of Hougang, connected to Punggol Road (to Punggol tail beach). Most of the local Chaozhou residents also have excellent Catholic faith. They have set up the oldest and most prominent church in the region, the Virgin Christmas Church (Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary)), built in the 1960s. Most schools are also set up by local teachers and residents.
