Autumn magic at Cook Park, Orange š | 29 April 2026
Visited Cook Park on 29 April 2026 and it was like stepping into a painting. Late April in Orange = peak autumn, and the leaves were putting on a show. Maple, oak, and elm trees everywhere in shades of gold, rust, and deep red. The whole park crunched under our feet and the air had that perfect crisp bite.
What I didnāt expect: history right in the middle of it. Thereās a German field gun and cannon on display near the main entrance. They were brought back after WWI and serve as a war memorial for Orange soldiers. Sitting next to century-old trees, theyāre a quiet reminder of the townās past.
Quick bits about Cook Park:
Opened: 1927, named after Captain James Cook. One of Orangeās oldest and most loved parks.
Why itās famous: Itās part of Orangeās āheritage park precinctā. The gardens were designed in English Victorian style, so all those towering deciduous trees were planted on purpose ā perfect for autumn color.
The cannons: Captured German 77mm field guns from WWI. Orange, like many Aussie towns, received them as war trophies + memorials in the 1920s.
More to see: Rotunda, duck pond, heritage rose garden, and the giant pine trees. Itās also right next to the Orange Regional Gallery if you want to keep the day going.
Best time to go: Late April to early May. Bring a jacket, a coffee, and your camera. The light filtering through those autumn leaves at 4pm was unreal.
Orange really knows how to do autumn.
