Oostende, Belgian Coast 🌊✨

“Exploring Oostende along the Belgian coast—where sea views, art, and history come together in one place.”@Joe the world citizen · 4 months ago
Sun, Sand & Strolls: Belgium’s North Sea Coast Adventure 🌊🍦

Kickstart your coastal escape along Oostende’s legendary Strand (Albert I-promenade)! Stroll by grand old hotels, snack on fresh waffles, and gaze at The Stroombank pier stretching confidently into the North Sea—this is the soul of Belgium’s beach life. Must-dos: walk the promenade during golden hour, settle onto soft sand with your favorite beach read, and catch the fishing boats returning at dusk for a classic Belgian vibe. Photo spot: The pier with dramatic skies or sunset, and the endless promenade for those dreamy, windswept shots. Top tip: Unlike Mediterranean hotspots, Oostende shines all year—bring a light windbreaker, even in summer, for those sudden sea breezes!

Next, embrace the laid-back charm of Strand Mariakerke Bad just south of Oostende. It’s quieter, ideal for a beach picnic or morning jog. Snap Insta-worthy pics of the serene beachscape, especially with pastel skies at sunrise—few crowds, maximum peace.

Dog lovers, don’t miss Hondenstrand in Middelkerke (Koning Ridderdijk)! Here, your pup can play off-leash while you soak up local life. Must-do: take a beach stroll with your furry friend, or join the locals for a chat. Extra tip: Keep an eye out for posted dog-friendly hours and areas.

Precautions: The Flemish coast weather changes fast—grey skies can become sunny within minutes. Waterproof shoes and layers are key. If you’re visiting outside summer, bring a warm hat and gloves for those brisk sea winds!

Bruges, Belgium, has always been one of the most fantastic fairytale towns in Europe, with its antique stone streets, the vitality of market squares, the majestic clock tower, and the gentle shuttle of canal boats, as if you have traveled to the Middle Ages in a second. In addition to taking you around Bruges, this trip also takes you one more trip to Antwerp to experience a completely different Belgian cityscape.

🗺️ Itinerary:
Morning: Bruges Market Square (Markt, 8000 Brugge, Belgium)
Market Square is Bruges’ most bustling and lively landmark, surrounded by brightly colored medieval cottages, perfect for photos! There are street vendors and cafes in the square, where you can sit down and enjoy a cup of cappuccino and slowly feel the fairytale town atmosphere.

Noon: Bruges Clock Tower (Markt 7, 8000 Brugge)
The 83-meter-high bell tower is the symbol of Bruges. You can choose to walk up the 250 steps to the top, overlooking the entire old town of Bruges and the intricate red-tiled roofs, it is recommended to go up early for less queues. Note that the opening hours are different on different days: September 16-September 20, October 1-October 18 and October 23-November 2, open from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Afternoon: Temple of the Holy Blood (Burg 13, 8000 Brugge)
The temple houses the legendary Holy Blood of Christ and is open to the public from 10:00-17:15 year-round. The church is gorgeous and solemn, the stained glass is super beautiful, worth entering to feel the religious art atmosphere. Remember to keep quiet and respect religious sites when entering and exiting.

Dusk: Bruges Canal Cruise
Be sure to experience the classic canal tour – near the market square you will find canal boats that go around the fairytale town for about 30 minutes, admiring the stone bridges, spire architecture and beautiful views from the waterway. Usually no appointment is required, but during peak season you have to wait, so you can reserve more time.

Evening: Grand Place Antwerp (2000 Antwerpen, Belgium)
You can choose to take a 40-minute train ride from Bruges to Antwerp at dusk and go to the Grand Square to feel the vitality and historical atmosphere of the big city. The square is surrounded by ancient buildings and sculptures, which is great for walking or finding a place for dinner.

✨Practical itinerary tips:
1. Comfortable hiking shoes are recommended, the stone roads in Bruges are a bit bumpy.
2. The stairs of the bell tower are quite narrow. Pay attention to safety when going up and down. It is not suitable for people who are afraid of heights.
3. Bruges market square and canal area is crowded, it is recommended to choose morning or evening photography.
4. The Holy Blood Temple is more crowded near ten noon, it is recommended to go early.
5. Antwerp is perfect for a leisurely stroll, so try local local chocolate and unbeatable beer.
