Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, Sydney — The Perfect View of Australia’s Iconic Harbour 🌅🇦🇺 Overlooking the sparkling waters of Sydney Harbour, Mrs Macquarie’s Chair is one of the most picturesque viewpoints in Australia. Located beside the beautiful Royal Botanic Garden, this historic sandstone seat offers a remarkable view of two world-famous landmarks—the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. Carved by convicts in 1810 for Elizabeth Macquarie, the wife of Governor Lachlan Macquarie, the chair carries a fascinating story from Sydney’s early history. Today, it is a favourite destination for travellers, photographers, and anyone looking for a peaceful place to admire the city’s magnificent waterfront scenery. The surrounding foreshore provides wonderful opportunities for photography, leisurely walks, and relaxing beside the harbour. Visit in the early morning for softer light and a calmer atmosphere, or arrive before sunset to capture the city skyline in warm golden colours. The location is easy to combine with a walk through the Royal Botanic Garden and a visit to Sydney’s most famous waterfront attractions. Best of all, enjoying the outdoor viewpoint is free.
