I recently had the chance to visit Tengchong during the autumn months, and the quiet beauty of the place has stayed on my mind since. Coming from a crowded city, the open natural spaces here felt like a much-needed sanctuary. Two places in particular left a very deep impression on me. The first was the Beihai Wetland. I have always loved being near water and open grasslands, and walking through the wetland felt incredibly peaceful. The vast, golden-green grass floating on the water and the gentle movement of the reeds in the cool autumn breeze had a very soothing rhythm. I think I walked along the pathways for hours without feeling tired at all. As someone who studies design, the soft, natural color palette of the lake under the soft sun was beautiful to observe. The other place I really enjoyed was the Volcano Geological Park. I decided to hike up Xiaokongshan. The morning air was quiet and very clear, and standing near the edge of the ancient volcanic crater felt like looking at a different world. It is a very simple, raw kind of landscape that makes you feel very small. If you ever decide to visit, I feel it is best to pack a warm, thick jacket. The sun is very gentle and warm during the day, but the temperature drops quite quickly in the evening. For me, Tengchong was a place to slow down and just walk, which was exactly what I needed.
