Taierzhuang Ancient Town

Taierzhuang Ancient Town is located in the southeast of Zaozhuang City, at the center of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. Taierzhuang is a famous water town north of the Yangtze River and an ancient canal town. Here you can stroll through quiet alleys, stand on ancient bridges to watch boats come and go, or take a painted boat to cruise on the canal. When you get tired, you can find a quiet teahouse or a riverside coffee shop to sit, read a book, daydream, and enjoy all kinds of pleasant experiences. Compared to the water towns of Jiangnan, this place possesses a richer historical charm and bears the marks of war. The Battle of Taierzhuang in 1938 reduced this ancient city to ruins. The ancient city we see today is a completely reconstructed version, with many attractions built on the original sites. Today, over fifty battlefield relics can still be seen in the reconstructed Taierzhuang. The ancient city's diverse architectural styles are a major feature. In its streets and alleys, you can see traditional Lunan residences, northern courtyards, Hui-style buildings, Hakka architecture, and even European-style buildings. Interestingly, you'll also find various religious buildings such as the Guandi Temple, the Tianhou Palace, the Taishan Temple, the mosque, and the Catholic Church all clustered together in this ancient city. In addition, the ancient city also features attractions such as the Taierzhuang Battle Site Park, Taierzhuang Ancient City-Daifudi, Shanxi Guild Hall, Museum of Honest and Upright Officials, the Military Commander's Office, and Lanting Study. Among them, the Hui-style building "Taierzhuang Ancient City-Daifudi" was once the former residence of Jia Sanjin, a local celebrity; "Shanxi Guild Hall" is a large Jin-style building that also houses a statue of Guan Yu. Located at the border of Shandong and Jiangsu provinces, the attraction area offers a unique blend of southern Shandong and northern Jiangsu folk customs. You'll see peddlers carrying loads and shaking rattles through the streets, hear vendors loudly hawking candied hawthorns, and enjoy a performance of Grand Canal Drumming and Liuqin Opera. Other must-see attractions include southern Shandong shadow puppetry, lion dances, acrobatics, and a costumed performance depicting Emperor Qianlong's tour of Taierzhuang. Every night, the buildings of the ancient city are illuminated by lights, making the night view as beautiful as the major water towns in southern China. Here you can taste the famous local yellow flower beef noodles.Feng Family Donkey MeatThere are also specialty dishes like pancakes and canal stone pancakes.WanfuyuanLocal specialties include mutton soup and other local snacks.Zaozhuang · 47.5 km from downtown

Guishan Scenic Area is located in Mengzhuang Town, 16 kilometers northeast of Zaozhuang City. It is close to the only medium-sized reservoir in the area, Zhoucun Reservoir, and faces Baodugu Forest Park to the north. It is surrounded by mountains on the west and south, including Guishan, Sheshan and Huangshan. The basin area is about 6,000 acres. There are dozens of scenic spots in the Attraction, including the larger ones such as the karst cave, Guanyin Hall, Shanzhai, Mummy Tomb, Jiulong Stone, Eagle Stone, Bagua Garden, Monkey Mountain, Water Park, etc. The spring breeze of reform and opening up has made this historic mountain, which has been dusty for many years, show itself to the world in a brand new posture. Guishan Mountain is named after its shape which resembles a crouching turtle. It is over 300 meters above sea level. The mountaintop is surrounded by steep cliffs and is covered with flagpole eye stands set up by the heroes of the past dynasties. Only the south and north sides can be climbed up and down naturally. There is Guishan Woquan between Guishan Mountain and Sheshan Mountain. The spring water flows down the mountain stream with a ding-dong sound. There is also an ancient mummy tomb from the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty and the ruins of Guishan Temple on the mountain. There are many natural caves on the cliff on the west side of the mountain. There are stalactites and stalagmites of various shapes in the caves. It is a Shandong Provincial Geopark. Guishan has a long history. From the Yin Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, traces of the ancestors' activities are all over the mountaintop, with finely engraved Bagua diagrams, the Ziyun Temple with smoke-filled incense, and the magnificent ancient mountain village. The mountain has majestic peaks and strange rocks, dense forests, a sea of flowers in spring, abundant fruits in autumn, and lush green all year round. At the foot of the mountain is the Zhoucun Reservoir, with sparkling waves and leafy boats, which is beautiful. The mountains and rivers reflect each other, which is really a vivid landscape painting. The first cave in southern Shandong is even more amazing. The cave is more than 600 meters long, with caves connected to caves, crisscrossing. In the cave, stalactites are upside down, stalagmites are everywhere, dripping water, and stone walls are towering, which is both wonderful and spectacular. Especially the stalactites and stalagmites, which are in various shapes and lifelike.Zaozhuang · 35.9 km from downtown

The hotel has a great location, very close to the South Gate; it's just a few minutes' walk if you have luggage. The receptionist, Xiao Zhao, was very welcoming and professional. Before we arrived, she added us on WeChat to give us directions. Once inside the ancient city, she provided accurate information on the times and locations of various performances. She also gave us a detailed hand-drawn map, explained things, and marked the spots, along with WeChat reminders, so we never missed a show.

Only the film and television city charges, but it is free for people over 60 years old. Other places don't charge as long as you bring your ID card. Parking is convenient. It is recommended to take a day to go, otherwise it is a bit too rushed.

Great value, beyond expectations. I didn't expect that such a professional lantern festival could be held in this rural area. It is highly recommended. Parking is convenient. There is parking at the gate. I wanted to rent a wheelchair, but they said that the wheelchair was rented out and the remaining two could not be used.

It takes about ten minutes to walk from Taierzhuang Ancient City, which is very convenient. The Battle of Taierzhuang is worth remembering! Photography is not allowed in the memorial hall, so here are some photos of the ancient city😊

It's a pity that we didn't see the Big and Small Rift Valleys. The mountain road was too steep, and the weather was too hot. We turned back less than 1/4 of the way. I recommend buying hiking sticks. There are charging stations in the parking lot below, which is very friendly to friends who drive trams. But if possible, you should still find a way to drive the car into the ticket gate so that you can walk less.

When we went, it was the hottest time of the day. There were many steps leading up to the top, but a small stream allowed children to play. The biggest problem was the sheer number of mosquitoes; everyone was bitten and frustrated! If you're bringing children, you absolutely must bring mosquito repellent spray. It's also sold at the mountaintop rest area for 10 yuan a bottle.

I wanted to take photos of every collection in the Tengzhou Museum and share them with you. This trip to Tengzhou was really worthwhile. I got to know the profound history and culture of Tengzhou and it made up for the gaps in history learning when I was in school!
