Zunyi Ancient City

Zunyi Ancient City

5.1
3.9/5
38 reviews

Zunyi Ancient City is located along Huichuan Avenue in Huichuan District, Zunyi City. It is a large, replica ancient city built against the mountain, integrating cultural experiences, leisure and entertainment, specialty dining, and family-friendly recreation. It is not an original historical district, but rather a complex of replica ancient buildings constructed in recent years, following the philosophy of restoring the old as the old to recreate the street layout of old Zunyi. Details such as the city walls, gates, archways, and wooden window carvings are quite exquisite. You will have a more enjoyable visit if you come with the expectation of seeing replica ancient architecture and taking photos in traditional style. The most eye-catching feature of the entire city is the main gate tower, "Moya Pass," which is about 10 stories high and magnificent. Along the undulating streets, you will find historical and cultural experience centers, intangible cultural heritage workshops, creative shops, and specialty dining. There is also an amusement area at the top of the mountain, so there is plenty for children to do. The ancient city incorporates elements of Northern Guizhou ethnic culture, Red culture, tea and wine culture, and Tusi culture. During the day, you can stroll through the buildings and watch intangible cultural heritage performances. After nightfall, the lights come on, and the light show on the ancient walls is quite a sight. The night view is often more photogenic than the daytime. It is worth noting that it is not very crowded on weekdays, and some shops may be closed from time to time, which is actually better for tourists who prefer quiet photo opportunities. If you are coming for the night view, it is recommended to enter the park around dusk so you can see the architecture during the day and enjoy the lights after dark, getting the best of both worlds. The ancient city is built against the mountain and the streets are sloped, so wearing a pair of comfortable shoes will save you a lot of effort.

Wulong Karst Tourism Area is located in Wulong District, Chongqing, downstream of the Wu River, a tributary of the Yangtze River. It features a typical karst landscape, with magnificent natural bridges, vast sinkholes, and steep, deep gorges. You can descend into a 100 m deep sinkhole and look up at the towering cliffs surrounding you like clouds. Alternatively, you can explore the valley floor within the gorges, following the underground river along the rock walls, and experience the wonders of nature. Tiankeng attractionIt features natural bridge clusters and sinkhole clusters. The area gained widespread recognition after serving as a filming location for the movie Curse of the Golden Flower. It was also used as a filming location for Transformers: Age of Extinction. Xiannü mountain presents a rare alpine grassland in southern China, averaging nearly 2 km in elevation where forests meet meadows, with summer temperatures around 20°C and winter ski opportunities; Furong cave is renowned for its cave deposition views, featuring stalactite marvels like Coral jade pool and Giant curtain waterfall, each displaying unique formations.

Three Natural Bridges

8.3
4.6/5
17.4k reviews

Three Natural Bridges is located in Xiannüshan Town, Wulong, Chongqing, and is a typical karst landscape attraction. The three natural stone arch bridges—Tianlong Bridge, Qinglong Bridge, and Heilong Bridge—are arranged longitudinally and span the Yangshui River gorge in parallel, with each bridge standing more than 200 m tall, connecting the mountain masses on both banks into one whole and forming the unique view known as "three bridges flanking two pits." The huge depressions enclosed between the bridges are what people commonly call "heavenly pits." It is quite rare to find three giant natural bridges appearing in succession within such a short stretch of gorge—such a bridge cluster view is truly uncommon. The three bridges each have a distinct form: Tianlong Bridge is tall and massive, with a through-cave developed beneath it; after rain, waterfalls often cascade down from the deck of Qinglong Bridge, and the mist catches the sunlight to form a rainbow—hence the bridge's name; Heilong Bridge takes its name from its deep, dark arch cave, with several mountain springs hanging along its walls. At the bottom of the pits, streams murmur and trees are lush and green; looking up, you see nearly vertical cliff faces, with mountain springs plunging down from the cliff tops—walking through feels like passing through a gorge at the center of the earth. Tours usually begin by taking the sightseeing elevator down to the bottom of the sinkhole, then following the valley-floor trail through three bridge arches in succession, looking up at the bridge arches and cliff faces. Tianfu Post Station at the bottom of Tianlong Bridge sinkhole is a faux-antique quadrangle courtyard with gray-tiled roofs, gray walls, and upturned eaves. A post station once stood here during the Tang Dynasty, and the courtyard has been restored to its original appearance. Director Zhang Yimou's film "Curse of the Golden Flower" was shot on location here, and it is also a filming location for "Transformers: Age of Extinction" and the film adaptation of "Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms." After the tour, visitors can walk up the trail to exit the attraction and transfer to a shuttle bus back to Xiannüshan Town Visitor Center, or make a side trip to the adjacent Longshuixia Ground Fissure to see both karst landscapes—the "sinkhole" and the "ground fissure"—in one visit.

Zhong Guo Tian Yan Jing Qu

8.1
4.5/5
6.8k reviews

Zhong Guo Tian Yan Jing Qu is nestled among the karst mountains of Pingtang, Guizhou. Built around the 500 m aperture spherical radio telescope FAST, it consists of two parts: the observation deck area in the mountains and the Pingtang Astronomy Town in Kedu Town. This telescope, known as the "China Sky Eye," rests in a natural funnel-shaped depression. More than 4,000 reflector units form a spherical-cap "wok," with a receiving area equivalent to nearly 30 football fields, and its aperture ranks among the world's largest among completed radio telescopes of its kind. From the proposal of the concept in the 1990s to its completion and commissioning in 2016, the project took more than 20 years, with site selection alone lasting over a decade. Astronomer Nan Rendong, who initiated and led the project, is therefore called the "father of China Sky Eye." Climbing to the observation deck to see the "big dish" is the highlight of the whole trip. To leave a quiet electromagnetic environment for the telescope, before entering the mountains you must store all electronic devices such as mobile phones, cameras, and smartwatches at the visitor service center, then transfer to a shuttle bus to reach the foot of the mountain and hike up more than 700 steps. Zodiac constellation patterns are embedded beside the steps, and if your stamina is limited you can also take a sightseeing bus instead. Standing on the observation deck at the summit, the 500 m aperture silver-gray "big dish" spreads out completely among the mountains, and the tiered viewing platforms let you examine its outline from different heights. There is no signal on the mountain, and you cannot take out your phone to take photos; this temporary "isolation from the world" is exactly the quiet that this telescope needs to work properly. The astronomy town at the foot of the mountain is a good place to round out the science popularization portion of the visit: the astronomy experience hall features themed exhibition halls on radio astronomy, galaxy exploration, and solar science popularization paired with sound, light, and electric interactive exhibits, and the on-site astronomical cinema screens astronomy films; electronic devices are allowed here, so you can take photos freely; the Nan Rendong Memorial Hall tells the story of the project from conception to completion in six chapters, and after seeing it, thinking back on that "pot" at the top of the mountain will feel very different; for a more thrilling experience, the motion seats in the dome flight theater can take you on a simulated "flight" over the telescope and the karst mountains. This telescope undertakes scientific tasks such as surveying neutral hydrogen in the universe, searching for pulsars, detecting interstellar molecules, and searching for signals of extraterrestrial civilizations, and it has discovered more than a thousand new pulsars since it began operation. With this background in mind, looking again at that "big wok" quietly "listening" to the universe, it is not just an artificial wonder, but more like a tireless listener to the cosmos.

The view was nice, but the carriage was too crowded. Everyone was crammed near the window, especially two big guys from Northeast China who took up all the seats in front of them as soon as they got on, so you couldn't see anything. The journey was quite short, and we arrived at the North Station quickly.

This attraction is a bit far from the subway station. Take Guiyang Metro Line 3 to Tongmuling (Provincial Party School) Station, then take a taxi or a shuttle bus for 5 yuan per person. The entire scenic area isn't large; two hours is enough to explore it. There are many stalls selling trinkets near the entrance, worth browsing. Further in, the main scenic area is filled with stone figures arranged along both banks of a stream. These are masterpieces created by local artist Song Peilun and the villagers over more than twenty years; you can learn about the story behind them. There are scheduled Nuo opera performances near the stage below, at 12:00 and 15:30 in summer and 12:30 and 15:30 in winter. It's worth checking out; they're quite unique.

We came mainly to see the pandas, and ended up spending more than two hours admiring them. We didn’t pay much attention to the other animals, and some of the enclosures did look a little neglected. However, overall, we left with a very positive impression. Considering how incredibly cheap the entrance fee was, we got more than our money’s worth – plenty of pandas and lots of fun watching them!

A regular ticket is sufficient, as you'll find that there's simply not enough time to visit the paid attractions if you go at midday. Also, you must bring a film camera next to the Fast sign. It must be a battery-free film camera with manual metering. If possible, bring your own film, as film cameras at the attraction aren't cheap—300 yuan for 36 exposures.

We went as a family during the National Day holiday, and it was a lot of fun. The light show and the iron flower display at night were beautiful. I accompanied my parents, who are over 70 years old. There were some steps in the scenic area, which were a bit tiring for their legs, but we could manage by walking slowly. The whole family was very happy.
