Grossmunsterstands on the banks of the Limmat, facing the Fraumünster on the opposite bank. The church is primarily in a typical Romanesque style, and its twin towers are now considered a symbol of Zurich; the composer Wagner once jokingly called them a pair of "pepper pots". Outside the south tower of the church stands a seated statue of Charlemagne holding a sword; it is a replica, with the original housed in the crypt. The crypt and the chancel area where the choir stalls are located are the oldest surviving parts of the church, dating back to the late 11th to early 12th century, with traces of the original frescoes still visible on the walls. In the early 16th century, the reformer Zwingli served as a priest here and preached his reformist ideas, making the church the birthplace of the Reformation in German-speaking Switzerland. The simple, white interior today is a legacy of this reformation. Inside the hall, you can also see stained glass windows designed by Swiss artist Augusto Giacometti, as well as bronze doors carved with images of Zwingli and Charlemagne. The cloister houses a Reformation museum, and climbing the south tower offers views over the Old Town, the Limmat, and the Lake Zurich area.

If starting from Weggis, you can take a cable car to enjoy aerial views of the lake and mountains before arriving at Kaltbad midway up the mountain. This mountain features gentle slopes, with over a hundred km of walking trails extending layer by layer along one side. The area boasts a rich variety of alpine flowers, including a dedicated mountain flower path that offers a particularly pleasant stroll during blooming seasons. A scenic, gradual slope trail from the summit takes approx. 2 hrs to complete, presenting lovely views with minimal physical demand. The mid-mountain resort of Kaltbad is ideal year-round: winter activities include skiing, sledding, ice skating, and cross-country skiing, with beginners able to enroll in ski school courses. Scattered across the slopes are restaurants, hotels, and holiday apartments featuring terraces and viewpoints—perfect for resting tired legs while dining with panoramic lake and mountain views.
