The Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra is located in the town of Sergiyev Posad, approx. 70 km northeast of Moscow. This town is one of the ancient cities on Russia's "Golden Ring," famous for being the birthplace of traditional matryoshka dolls, and the entire town originally developed alongside the monastery. The monastery was founded in the 14th century by the Orthodox saint Sergius of Radonezh and has been continuously expanded over the centuries. It remains an active monastery for monks and houses the Moscow Theological Academy and seminary, making it one of the most well-known pilgrimage sites for the Russian Orthodox Church. The monastery grounds are packed with sights. The white-stone Trinity Cathedral was built around 1422, making it older than the other major buildings in the complex. Its golden iconostasis is said to be the work of the icon painter Andrei Rublev and his workshop; his masterpiece, "The Trinity," was originally created for this cathedral and is now housed in The State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. The relics of the founder, St. Sergius, are kept inside the cathedral, where believers often line up to pay their respects. Surrounding it are the Assumption Cathedral, the Church of the Holy Spirit, the Smolensk Church with its blue tent-shaped roof, the palace where tsars once stayed during their visits, the Refectory where monks used to dine and receive guests, and a multi-story bell tower standing approx. 88 m tall, all connected in a scattered layout. Surrounded by a ring of walls and towers, the entire complex looks like a fortress from a distance. When visiting, please note that if a religious service is in progress, you should observe quietly. You will often see monks in black robes and seminary students on the grounds, and if you visit during service times, you may hear bells and choral singing.Sergiev Posad · 1.8 km from downtown

Sergiyev Posad is located in the northeast of the Moscow Oblast and is one of the ancient cities of the Golden Ring of Russia that is closer to Moscow. It was known as Zagorsk during the Soviet era. It is the home of the Russian folk art of matryoshka dolls and is known as the Capital of Russian Toys. The tradition of making toys dates back to the 16th century, and legend has it that the first Russian matryoshka doll was born here. The town's landmark is The Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, which was founded in the 14th century. After centuries of expansion, it has formed a simple and magnificent architectural complex. Its white walls and blue and gold domes stand out against the green trees. In 1993, the entire complex was listed as a World Heritage Site. Outside the monastery walls, you can see traditional Russian log houses everywhere in the old town, and the shop windows along the street are filled with various hand-painted matryoshka dolls. The Toy Museum houses tens of thousands of toys, including some of the earliest produced matryoshka dolls. The town's attractions are relatively concentrated. The solemnity of the monastery and the childlike fun of the home of matryoshka dolls are intertwined here. Coupled with the advantage of being close to Moscow, it is often chosen by travelers as the first stop on their Golden Ring trip.Sergiev Posad · 1.1 km from downtown

GUM is located on the east side of Red Square in Moscow, facing the Kremlin across the square. Its name is derived from the abbreviation of the Russian for "State Department Store," and it is also commonly referred to as "GUM." The current building was completed in the 1890s and was designed through a collaboration between architect Pomerantsev and engineer Shukhov. Its facade stretches over 200 meters along Red Square, featuring towers, spires, and stone carvings that evoke the vocabulary of medieval Russian architecture, yet it is supported by a steel frame structure that was quite advanced for its time. The continuous arched glass skylights were unique when the building was completed. The interior of the mall consists of three parallel shopping arcades spanning three levels, resembling a small city covered by a glass roof. The arched ceiling, composed of tens of thousands of glass panes, allows sunlight to flood the atrium, keeping the interior bright even when it is snowing outside. The fountain in the central arcade is the visual centerpiece of the entire mall and a common meeting point for Muscovites, with many tourists visiting specifically to take photos. The shops on both sides bring together hundreds of international and local brands, offering everything from fashion and jewelry to perfume and cosmetics. Even if you don't plan on shopping, it is worth coming in for a walk. The "Stolovaya No. 57" on the third level recreates the look of a Soviet state-run canteen, where you can carry a tray and choose traditional Russian home-style dishes. "Gastronome No. 1" replicates the grocery counters of the Soviet era, and its old-fashioned cream ice cream is quite famous. The "GUM ice cream" sold in small kiosks is another signature dessert that has been around for years. It is a great place to stop by and warm up after exploring Red Square, and when the lights come on at night, the glass arcades take on a different atmosphere.Moscow · 71.2 km from Sergiev Posad

You can see this golden dome complex from a distance. The Assumption Cathedral is also a very interesting religious complex. Sergeyev was an important religious historical figure during the Tsarist Russia period. The cathedral also has many memorial forms on this surface.

It's definitely worth seeing. You can save money by buying tickets for the back. The theater isn't very big, but you can see from all angles. Front row tickets are too expensive. It's quite representative.
