Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, located southwest of Bangkok, is a rare example of a market that still retains the traditional Thai floating market atmosphere. With over a century of history, it has been a filming location for many movies, most notably one of the James Bond films. Local residents still live in stilt houses built along the waterways of Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. Most vendors are husband-and-wife teams, conducting their trade year-round on the river. Boats carrying vegetables, fruits, and small goods weave through the narrow waterways of the canals, lined with lush tropical trees. On board, local women, wearing distinctive straw hats, loudly hawk their wares. During peak season, these small merchant boats and passenger boats create traffic jams on the canals, forming a lively scene. Most visitors to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market choose to tour the market by boat, experiencing the fun of shopping from above. Of course, strolling through the covered walkways on the banks offers another unique experience, with vendors selling fruit there as well. If you see food that you like from the vendors on the boat, you can ask them to come ashore.

Phra Pathom Chedi

Phra Pathom Chedi is located inNakhon Pathom Province, 80 km west of Bangkok, Thailand. Phra Pathom Chedi was only 39 m high when first built. By 1853, the pagoda had nearly collapsed, and King Rama IV rebuilt it. The second pagoda was partially destroyed by heavy rain. It was later expanded by King Rama V, resulting in the current structure. The pagoda now consists of 3 pagodas built in different periods, one nested inside the other, a rare design in pagoda architectural art. The pagoda is 120 m high, with a 40 m spiral spire and a circular base 57 m in diameter. Viewed from a distance, the golden pagoda resembles a giant bell, looking spectacular against the backdrop of blue sky and white clouds. Inside the golden pagoda are a golden Buddha statue and a reclining Buddha, housing precious Buddha bones and relics. Additionally, the ashes of King Rama VI are interred within the pagoda. The base of the pagoda consists of two massive platforms. On the first platform where the main pagoda sits, there are two models of the "pagoda within a pagoda," introducing visitors to the history of the pagoda's two reconstructions. The platform is planted with many trees transplanted from Sri Lanka, creating a quiet environment with swaying shadows. There are 4 Buddhist halls on the second platform. The eastern hall is magnificent, housing a statue of Sakyamuni. Behind the statue, the wall features a mural of a tree, surrounded by patterns of dragon kings, hermits, and bird kings. The westernhall is the Reclining Buddha Hall. In front of the hall stands a tree that is 300–400 years old, a precious treasure of the hall. The southern and northern halls also have their own unique features. Additionally, 24 bell pavilions surround the pagoda, arranged in groups of 6 at equal intervals. Every year in mid-November of the Buddhist calendar, the Phra Pathom Chedi Festival is held on the square where the golden pagoda is located. At that time, devotees, merchants, and tourists from all over come not only to worship but also to trade goods and watch cultural performances.

Chao Phraya River

The Chao Phraya River is the customary name used by the Chinese community for the river known in Thai as "Chao Phraya." The term "Chao Phraya" originates from Thai, literally meaning "mother of waters," while its Thai name is often translated as "river of kings," both reflecting the river's significance in Thailand. It originates in the northern mountains of Thailand, flows south through the central plains, passes the ancient capital of Ayutthaya, and runs through the heart of Bangkok before emptying into the Gulf of Thailand. Including its upstream tributaries, it stretches over 1,000 km. Bangkok grew alongside this river, once crisscrossed by waterways and dubbed the "Venice of the East." Even today, the Chao Phraya River remains a vital waterway for local transportation and daily life. Taking a cruise is a classic way to explore the river. By day, the water bustles with public ferries, cargo boats, and crossings, resembling a watery highway for Bangkok residents, while traditional floating markets have mostly relocated to tributaries. Along the river, historic landmarks like the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun glide past, juxtaposed with modern malls like ICONSIAM across the water. A short ferry ride from Tha Tian Pier leads to Wat Arun on the opposite bank. At night, the river transforms as lights illuminate both shores, with Wat Arun's porcelain-clad spires shimmering softly. Sightseeing and dinner cruises set sail, offering a distinctly different atmosphere from the land-based experience. If timing allows, an evening cruise lets you witness both the sunset and the city lights, capturing two faces of the river in one trip. △Sparkling Chao Phraya River △Enchanting night view at Chao Phraya River

Rajadamnern Muay Thai Stadium

Rajadamnern Muay Thai Stadium is a highly prestigious professional Muay Thai venue in Bangkok, regarded alongside Lumpinee Stadium as one of Thailand's two main modern Muay Thai arenas. The stadium began construction in 1941 but was halted due to material shortages during World War II, resuming after the war and hosting its first match only by the end of 1945. Initially an open-air venue without a roof, it was fitted with a concrete roof in 1951 and has undergone multiple renovations and upgrades since. Today, it stands as a modern enclosed stadium, embodying a condensed history of Thailand's professional Muay Thai. The gym hosts frequent matches year-round. On fight days, professional fighters from across Thailand compete here for the gym's own rankings and championship titles. Unlike performance-oriented bouts for travelers, these are real fights that count toward professional records: fighters wear mongkon headbands and perform ritual dances to traditional music before the match—the elaborate wai khru ceremony is worth arriving early to witness. During fights, every sweep kick and knee strike lands with full force in high-intensity clashes, so be mentally prepared. Each seating area offers a distinct experience—ringside seats provide close-up action, while the upper stands are packed with local veteran fans who roar with every powerful hit, creating waves of cheers that let you experience Muay Thai in its rawest form.
