Skógafoss

Skógafoss is located on the south coast of Iceland. The Skógá River cascades down from the top of a cliff approx. 60 m high and 25 m wide, forming an almost continuous curtain of water. This cliff is a remnant of Iceland's ancient coastline—as the coastline has retreated southward over thousands of years, the former coastal cliff was left inland, and the waterfall now plunges directly from the edge of this cliff. The area in front of the waterfall is filled with mist year-round, and on sunny days, you can often see a single or even a double rainbow; if you walk to the base of the waterfall, you will get soaked by the mist. On the east side of the waterfall, there is a zigzagging staircase trail leading to the top of the cliff, where you can overlook the entire waterfall and the distant south coast plains. There is also an ancient Norse legend about this waterfall: it is said that in the early days, someone hid a chest of gold treasure behind the waterfall. After rumors of the treasure spread, treasure hunters came in an endless stream, and later, someone actually found the ring of the chest here. This ring is now kept in the nearby Skógar Museum, and the legend of the treasure has been passed down to this day, becoming part of the waterfall's unique cultural charm.

Myrdalsjokull Glacier

Ice fragments containing layers of volcanic ash float on the lake surface, while blue ice walls, moraines, and crevasses are clearly visible from the shore, serving as a window to intuitively experience the dynamics of glacial melting. This is also a classic site in Iceland for glacier hiking and ice climbing. Follow a guide, put on crampons, and step onto the ice to walk among crevasses and ridges, observing the deep blue ancient ice up close; if you prefer to view it from a distance, a walk along the lakeshore offers a full view of the glacier and the surrounding volcanic landscape.

Crashed DC 3 Plane

Crashed DC 3 Planeis a plane crash site on Sólheimasandur black sand beach on the south coast of Iceland. On November 21, 1973, a US Navy DC-3 military transport plane encountered severe icing while flying from Höfn to Keflavik. Both engines failed, forcing the crew to land the plane on the black sand plains. All 7 crew members survived and were rescued, but the plane was abandoned on-site and has never left the beach. Today, all salvageable parts have long been removed, leaving only the weathered, silver-gray fuselage resting on the vast, exposed black sand. It creates a striking visual contrast against the desolate horizon and is highly photogenic in both cloudy and sunny weather, making it a long-time favorite location for photographers. Music videos such as Justin Bieber's 'I'll Show You' have also been filmed here, bringing widespread fame to the wreckage.

Gljufrabui Waterfalls

Gljufrabui Waterfalls is a hidden waterfall near Seljalandsfoss on Iceland's South Coast, tucked deep within the rock walls of a narrow canyon. To enter, you must wade through a stream and squeeze through a rock crevice. Inside, it opens up—a waterfall approx. 40 m high descends from above, pouring into a natural circular space surrounded by basalt walls, with splashing water and mist, as if immersed in a natural cathedral. "Gljufrabui" means canyon dweller in Icelandic, which aptly describes this secret waterfall hidden within the rock crevices. Located just a few hundred m from the famous Seljalandsfoss, it sees relatively fewer visitors because the visit requires wading through water, offering a true sense of adventure. It is recommended to wear waterproof boots and quick-drying clothing. It is open for visits all year round.

Kvernufoss, meaning millstone waterfall in Icelandic, is located in southern Iceland, hidden deep within the Kvernugil Canyon. It is approx. 30m high and 10m wide. Compared to the more famous Skógafoss nearby, it receives fewer visitors and retains a more tranquil, pristine atmosphere. The most unique feature of the waterfall is a path behind the cliff that allows visitors to walk through, where you can look up at the cascading water from behind the veil and experience the power of the water up close—a feature quite similar to Seljalandsfoss in Iceland. The canyon walls are made of dark basalt covered in thick green moss, and the area is misty, deep, and tranquil.
