Tsingtao Beer Museum

4.8/5
48.2k reviews
The Tsingtao Beer Museum is located at No. 56 Dengzhou Road, the birthplace of Tsingtao beer. This century-old factory, housed in a 1903 German-style industrial complex, witnesses China's beer industry journey from its infancy to prominence. As China's first beer-themed model for industrial heritage revitalization, the museum transforms weathered red-brick workshops into immersive spaces using precious early equipment like old motors, mash kettles, and boiling kettles. Visitors walking through the century-old memory corridor can touch over 30,000 artifacts from the German occupation era while overlooking the smart production lines of the "lighthouse factory" through glass walls. Through the dialogue between traditional wooden fermentation tanks and fully automated filling equipment, they decode the evolution of Chinese manufacturing from artisanal heritage to digital transformation. With the innovative concept of "living heritage + technological empowerment," the museum breaks free from the static display constraints of industrial sites. The VR brewing lab allows visitors to become brewers adjusting malt ratios, while the hop recognition system decodes the scientific secrets behind beer flavors. Personalized beer label printing customizes brews, turning taste into portable urban memories. This cultural landmark, bearing Qingdao's industrial DNA, not only showcases its benchmark value in cultural-tourism integration through honors like "national first-class museum" and "China's top 10 cultural heritage tourism cases," but also injects more sustainable vitality into the century-old factory by being selected as a "national cultural industry demonstration base." It continues to brew the city's cultural richness from industrial heritage amid the tides of time.Qingdao · 3.5 km from downtown

Badaguan

8.3k reviews
Badaguan is a coastal neighborhood in the southern part of Qingdao, nestled between the southern foothills of Taiping Mountain, Huiquan Cape, and Taiping Cape. It earned its name from eight streets named after ancient passes, with roads like Shaoguan Road, Zhengyangguan Road, and Shanhaiguan Road now forming a crisscrossing network. The area is shaded by lush trees, dotted with deep courtyards, and offers a tranquil atmosphere with few pedestrians. This neighborhood boasts hundreds of old villas built in the 1920s and 1930s, showcasing a blend of architectural styles from Russia, Britain, Germany, Denmark, Japan, and more, earning it the nickname "International Architecture Expo." Among them, the seaside Huashi Building is a European castle-style structure built with multicolored stones and is one of the few villas open to the public, allowing visitors to explore inside and enjoy sea views from its rooftop platform. On Juyongguan Road, the Princess Building is a Danish-style villa with green walls and red tiles, named after a Danish princess and known for its photogenic charm. The Marshal Building on Shanhaiguan Road is a Japanese-style villa where several founding marshals once stayed. Note that most villas here are not open to the public, so visitors can only admire their exteriors. A unique feature of Badaguan is its "one tree per road" theme: Shaoguan Road is lined with flowering peach trees that bloom brilliantly in spring; Ningwuguan Road is adorned with crabapple flowers in late spring and early summer; Zhengyangguan Road is filled with crape myrtles throughout summer and autumn; Jiayuguan Road is flanked by maple trees turning red and yellow in late autumn; Juyongguan Road is carpeted with golden ginkgo leaves; Zijingguan Road features evergreen cedars; while Shanhaiguan Road and Linhuaiguan Road are lined with plane trees and junipers, respectively. Each season transforms the neighborhood into a different landscape. Walking south to the end of these roads leads to the seaside, adjacent to the Second Bathing Beach, where fine sand contrasts with red-tiled villas, embodying Qingdao's classic "red tiles, green trees, blue sea, and azure sky" scenery. This area is a popular spot for wedding photos and a quintessential place for strolls and photography in Qingdao.Qingdao · 3.2 km from downtown

The Underwater World is located on the west side of the First Bathing Beach. It is a theme venue that displays the underwater environment and marine life. Here, you can not only see many live marine animals and biological specimens, but also enjoy wonderful underwater performances. It is very suitable for parent-child tours. First, in the Dream Jellyfish Palace, you will see thousands of jellyfish competing with each other for splendor under the reflection of lights. Then you can go to the Seal House to see the cute seals, sea lions and penguins. You can also see sperm whales, swordfish, sea turtles and other marine life specimens in the domestically-rich marine specimen museum. Next, the "Underwater World" museum, which is built entirely underground, will give you a full-scale visual experience of the underwater world. You can stroll through a fully transparent underwater tunnel, feel schools of fish surrounding you, or watch clownfish and other tropical fish swimming around corals through cylindrical exhibition tanks. The live underwater performances in the Ocean Theater are particularly popular. You can enjoy the thrilling "Dancing with Sharks" and the beautiful and dreamy "Mermaid" performance. Sometimes you can also see humorous sketches performed by divers underwater. After learning about marine life, you can go to the Freshwater Museum to visit rare freshwater creatures such as the Arapaima, Chinese sturgeon, and giant salamander, and take a glimpse of these "living fossils." There are multiple exhibition halls in Qingdao Underwater World. The visiting route is one-way and you cannot go back. Enter from the entrance on the south side of Laiyang Road and exit from the north side of Laiyang Road.Recommended route: Jellyfish Palace - Seal Hall - Marine Life Hall - Whale Hall - Underwater World - Freshwater Life Hall (one-way tour, no turning back)Qingdao · 4.4 km from downtown

Qingdao Site Museum of the Former German Governor's Residence

9.4k reviews
The Qingdao Site Museum of the Former German Governor's Residence, also known as the Guest House and commonly referred to as the Governor's Mansion, is located at the southern foot of Signal Hill. Built in 1905 and completed in 1907, it originally served as the official residence of the German governor of Jiaozhou Bay. Designed by German architect Lazarowicz, it blends the architectural style of the Wilhelmine era with Jugendstil techniques. Architect Liang Sicheng praised it as a monumental work of architectural art that integrates multiple cultural concepts from East and West. The entire mansion features a castle-like design with four floors and dozens of rooms, now open to the public as a museum. The building's exterior is striking enough: yellow walls adorned with large mushroom stones and granite, topped with beige-red barrel tiles, blue fish-scale tiles, and green ox-tongue tiles. The pediment above the main entrance features a radiant sun pattern crafted from rough stone, surrounded by carvings of anchor chains and knots, with a dragon-head stone sculpture—inspired by Norman ship figureheads—jutting out from one side. The color scheme and details make it highly recognizable in Qingdao's old town. Inside, the palace-style wooden decor showcases exquisite carvings and craftsmanship: the central hall spans two floors, lofty and bright, while the banquet hall doubles as a concert hall, complete with an orchestra pit and private boxes. The top features a crystal chandelier with a bronze frame weighing over a ton. At the eastern end lies a steel-framed glass conservatory. The building still displays original furnishings like an old piano, grandfather clock, gun cabinet, and rosewood bed. The tower roof's slope ratio matches that of Ming and Qing Chinese architecture, with glazed tiles adorning the parapet walls, creating a harmonious blend of Eastern and Western elements throughout. It should be noted that photography is generally not allowed inside the museum, so you'll mainly have to rely on the exterior architecture and courtyards for keepsake photos. After the visit, you can conveniently climb the nearby Signal Hill to overlook the old town with its red roofs and green trees, as well as the bay.Qingdao · 4.5 km from downtown

Excellent experience at the Tsingtao Beer Museum! 🍺 We learned about the history of Tsingtao Beer and got an insight into the beer production process. The best part was getting to taste the beer along with some beer nuts during the visit. A fun and interesting experience, especially for beer lovers. Definitely worth a visit when in Qingdao!

Yangkou Scenic Area isn't very strenuous, but it's mostly steps. This is especially unfriendly to people with bad knees, as the entire route is almost entirely stairs with no uphill climbing. Many people buy cable car tickets. However, buying the cable car means missing out on the opportunity to enjoy the scenery while walking. It's truly a difficult choice.

The boat departs at 9:30 AM. If you arrive early, you can take photos with the Olympic torch. The boat has three decks, and it looks beautiful when the sun shines on the shimmering water. However, it doesn't go very far, there are no seagulls, and it's a bit shaky. Overall, the experience is just average.

Overall, the visit to Qingdao Underwater World was a good experience. The park boasts a rich variety of marine life, a well-organized layout of exhibits, and a stunning immersive underwater tunnel, making it suitable for family interaction and science education. However, during holidays, the park can be quite crowded, with some exhibits feeling a bit cramped. In general, as a marine-themed park, its exhibits and experiential design are commendable, and visiting during off-peak hours is recommended for a more comfortable experience.

The Zhanqiao Pier in Qingdao is a must-see! The century-old stone path stretches into the azure sea, and the glazed tiles of the Huilan Pavilion gleam brightly in the sunlight. In winter, flocks of seagulls circle and forage, and the salty sea breeze is incredibly soothing. Climbing to the top offers panoramic views of red-tiled roofs, green trees, and the azure sea and sky; every snapshot is a masterpiece, no filter needed. All the romance of Qingdao is here!

Qingdao Satisfies All Your Sea-Viewing Desires As the sea closest to the Central Plains culture, the Yellow Sea would have been the first choice for emperors like Qin Shi Huang, Emperor Wu of Han, and Emperor Taizu of Song to view the sea, with places like Langya, Jimo, and Qingdao being prime examples. After all, besides the vast ocean and the majestic Laoshan Mountain, it's also an important salt-producing area. When you truly hear the roar of the waves crashing against the rocks, when you see the boundless coastline, you'll believe you've truly seen the sea. If you can also swim in the sea, leisurely go beachcombing, listen to the sea, feel the sea breeze, visit islands, eat seafood, walk through underwater tunnels, take ocean-going cruises, and visit aquariums, then all your desires for the sea have been fulfilled, and you'll have no regrets in this life. Moreover, there are colonial-era seaside villas, Olympic sailing ships, and the National Naval Museum of China. I came specifically for the little red flower (a popular tourist attraction in Qingdao), and the view of Qingdao from the cable car was indeed quite nice, but the price was a bit inflated. It's a collaboration with a film, yet the pricing is so high, sigh. I recommend coming in the evening.
