Dhobi Ghat

4.3/5
142 reviews
Dhobi Ghat is an open-air laundry. Even today, with washing machines widely available, this place continues the tradition of manual hand washing: hundreds of concrete washing pens are lined up in neat rows. Every day, laundry workers soak, beat, wring, and hang dry bed sheets and clothes from hotels, hospitals, and homes across Mumbai, while white sheets and colorful fabrics hang across rows of clotheslines, and the sounds of beating paddles and splashing water fill the air. The pedestrian bridge next to Mahalaxmi Railway Station is the place to overlook the laundry. Standing on the bridge, you can see the entire expanse of washing pens and drying areas; the low-rise, dense laundry area is framed against the modern city center with its high-rise buildings in the distance, with a century-old tradition of manual labor on one side and skyscrapers on the other. The sight of laundry workers collaborating to sort and pack clothes provides an intuitive glimpse into the daily workings of this city.Mumbai · 11.7 km from downtown

Gateway Of India Mumbai

Gateway Of India Mumbai stands at Apollo Bunder on the southern tip of Mumbai, facing the Arabian Sea. This 26m-high basalt arch was completed in 1924. Originally built to welcome King George V to India, it was designed by British architect George Wittet. Its form is inspired by European triumphal arches, while its details incorporate elements of 16th-century Gujarati architecture. Islamic-style arches and indigenous Indian carvings are interwoven on the same facade, making it a representative work of Indo-Saracenic style. Today, the sea breeze under the arch, the ferries traveling back and forth, and the circling pigeons form a common scene on the Mumbai waterfront. Framing it with the Taj Mahal Palace hotel next door is a popular photography angle. You can take a boat from the nearby pier to the Elephanta Caves. After the lights come on at night, it is also a gathering place for local citizens to take a walk and cool off.Mumbai · 17.7 km from downtown

"Queen's Necklace" is the nickname of the famous Marine Drive in Mumbai, India. This 3.6-kilometer-long Marine Drive is in the shape of a "C", winding along the Arabian coastline, connecting Nariman Point in the south and Girgaon Chowpatty Beach in the north. When night falls, the lights on both sides of the street are like pearls in a string, and from a distance it looks like a string of dazzling necklaces, hence the name "Queen's Necklace". The Marine Drive was built in the 1920s and 1930s. Most of the buildings along the road are in Art Deco style, such as Kapoor Building, Zavier Building and Keval Building, showing Mumbai's architectural achievements in the colonial period. The Marine Drive is not only a paradise for architecture enthusiasts, but also a popular place for citizens and tourists to relax and have fun. During the day, people walk and jog on the trail surrounded by palm trees, enjoying the fresh sea breeze; in the evening, they watch the beautiful sunset over the Arabian Sea; at night, the street lights are lit, and the Marine Drive becomes a romantic "Queen's Necklace", attracting couples and photography enthusiasts to take pictures.Mumbai · 17.2 km from downtown

Dhobi Ghat in Mumbai is a fascinating open-air laundromat where hundreds of washermen (dhobis) clean clothes in rows of concrete wash pens. A symbol of Mumbai’s hardworking spirit, it offers a unique glimpse into the city’s traditional laundry system. A must-visit for photographers and culture enthusiasts!

Beautiful florals and gorgeous lighting create a wonderful atmosphere. The temple is well arranged. The only thing missing is the mushak (maybe because it is a festival) the rest is good. Holy and pious, the whole process is very systematic so it is not troublesome even when it is very crowded, it is also very clean, people may need to be a little careful when buying flowers and items for worship as they want to cheat you subtly, negotiate the price beforehand, and also beware of pickpockets.

The seaside is still very spectacular. After passing the famous "Gate of India" in Mumbai, you will see the Indian Ocean. However, India is really dirty, with garbage everywhere on the ground. The sea water is not blue at all, like the Yellow River.

Kanheri Caves are located in the Gandhi National Park in Mumbai, in the north of Mumbai, a little far from the city. The park is also very large, suitable for a whole day of hiking, but we don’t have much time here, and hiking in India, haha… First take the train, then take a tuk-tuk to the entrance of the park, but it is still a long way from the caves. There are special charter services at the entrance, including round trips. The caves are still OK, but not as beautiful as Elephanta Island.

The Hanging Gardens, also known as the Hain Gardens, are located on top of the Malabar Hill in the wealthy area. Because the garden is located above a reservoir, it is called the Hanging Gardens. I came here not because of how beautiful the garden is, but because I was infected by the locals who came here. They are simple and happy.

This stone fountain dates back to the 1860s and is a vibrant Victorian fantasy based on the Roman goddess of flowers, Flora. It is made of an attractive yellow stone and features various mythological heroes and animals. At the time of our visit, the sidewalk around it was being repaired and the water was shut off. Once the restoration is complete, it may be more attractive.

India, Mumbai, Falavi slum, known as the world's largest slum, covers an area of 2 square kilometers, with 800,000 people living in it. It is also the place where Slumdog Millionaire happened. It is not that exaggerated in person, but it is indeed small, dirty and dilapidated! There are poor people all over the world, and they are concentrated in a tourist attraction. I hope everyone can become rich. We need to work together, both ourselves and the government!
