Lake Titicaca

Lake Titicaca straddles the Collao Plateau on the border of Peru and Bolivia, with an altitude of approx. 3,800 m. It is a rare, large, high-altitude navigable freshwater lake in the world, often known as the Pearl of the Plateau. Although located inland, its water is not salty, and despite its high altitude, it never freezes. The crisp, thin air of the plateau and the light, which is closer to the sun's true color, make the lake surface appear even bluer than the sky. The origin of the lake's name is debated, but a widely circulated theory is that it is derived from the local language for Rock of the Puma. A highly recognizable experience here is the reed floating islands of the Uros people: hundreds of years ago, this small tribe moved onto the lake to escape the encroachment of the Inca Empire, creating floating islands using layers of bundled reed roots and stalks. Today, there are still hundreds of floating islands on the lake, where thousands of Uros people have lived for generations. On the islands, reeds are almost everything in life—houses, boats, and beds are all built from reeds, and the tender stems of the reeds, playfully called lake bananas by the islanders, can be eaten directly, with the craft of building with reeds passed down from generation to generation.Puno · 44 km from Manco Kapac

The Quemado Palace is located on the west side of the Murillo Square in the center of La Paz, the administrative capital of Bolivia. It is the administrative office of La Paz and the center of power and politics. This neoclassical building was built in 1850. It was named "the burned palace" because of many fires and reconstructions. The existing white facade and dome bell tower are the typical style after the reconstruction in the late 19th century. Tourists can visit the exterior of the building and the guard changing ceremony in front of the door. The interior is only open to official events by appointment. The cathedral on the east side of the square and the Congress Building on the north side constitute the historical core area of La Paz. It is recommended to combine walking tours. The exterior wall of the building is decorated with reliefs of the Bolivian national emblem. The bronze lion statue in front of the door is a historical relic donated by Italy, which is suitable for photography. Visitors need to bring their original passports to register at the guard office. Large bags and professional photography equipment are prohibited. The visitor center on the north side of the square provides free guide brochures, and you can visit the Gold Museum, which is only 200 meters away.Bolivia · La Paz

Call de Jaén is a colonial-style street full of historical charm in the center of La Paz, Bolivia. The buildings on both sides of the street are famous for their colorful facades and wrought iron balconies, and have well preserved the 16th-century Spanish architectural style. The cobblestone pavement and ancient lamps here provide visitors with the experience of traveling through time. There are many museums on Calle de Jaén, such as the famous Murillo Museum, which displays Bolivian historical relics. Other museums include the Musical Instrument Museum and the Gold Museum, which showcase local music culture and mining history respectively. It is recommended to check the opening hours in advance for a visit. There are many cafes and handicraft shops around the street, which are suitable for casual shopping. It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes to cope with the cobblestone road, and take care to keep personal belongings to prevent theft. Calle de Jaén is an ideal place to explore the history and culture of La Paz, suitable for tourists who like history and architecture.Bolivia · La Paz

The Yungas Nord Road is located in the Bolivian plateau and is a legendary dangerous place. The road runs 61 or 69 kilometers from La Paz to Coroico, the capital of Bolivia. The road condition of this highway is one of the best in the world. The altitude of the higher part is more than 3,000 meters. The road surface is mostly rough, the width of the lane is very narrow, and there is also a lack of buffer space when turning. The tragedy of falling off the cliff. According to statistics, 200-300 tourists die along the highway every year, so the road has the title of "Death Highway".Bolivia · Nor Yungas

The Titicaca Lake on the Copacabana side is quieter and less commercialized than the Puno side. However, the weather was not very good during the two nights we stayed in Copacabana, so we did not take a boat tour of the lake. It was still beautiful to watch from the shore, but the wind was a bit strong.
