Piazza del Duomo is located in the center of Milan, surrounded by many important buildings, including the landmark of Milan, the cathedral. The square gradually developed with the construction of the cathedral and was named after it. In the center of the square stands the equestrian bronze statue of Vittorio Emanuele II, the first king of the Kingdom of Italy. Around the square, there are also a series of important buildings such as the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the neoclassical-style royal palace, and the cathedral museum. On the square, you can see flocks of leisurely strolling pigeons, and sometimes in the evening, you may encounter impromptu street performances. The area near the square is home to many shopping malls, boutiques, and high-end restaurants, making it a well-known leisure and shopping district in Milan.Italy · Milan

L'Horloge Fleurie stands on the promenade along Lake Geneva, located on the west side of the English Garden, combining Geneva's two specialties—watchmaking and horticulture—into a single flowerbed. It was built in 1955 to pay tribute to the local watchmaking tradition: the movement is hidden beneath the flowerbed, and the clock face, which is about 5 meters in diameter, along with the 12 Arabic numerals, are all "planted" with flowers and greenery. A second hand over 2 meters long sweeps slowly over the flowers. The time is calibrated by satellite. It is not just a decorative display, but a fully functional clock. The flowers on the clock face are changed four times a year according to the season: in summer, they are replaced with begonias or succulents; in autumn and winter, pansies are planted; and around March, it's the primroses' turn to take the stage. Therefore, the patterns and color schemes you see will be different depending on when you visit.Geneva · 31.2 km from Le Vaud

Jardin Anglais is located on the left bank of Lake Geneva. Established in 1854, it is a lakeside park designed in the English landscape garden style, where lawns, large trees, and winding paths replace regular, symmetrical layouts. It can be accessed by walking along the lake after crossing the Mont Blanc Bridge. The park is lush and shaded, with expansive views of the lake. Standing by the shore, you can see the water jet of the Geneva Jet d'eau, making it a perfect spot to take a break and enjoy the view while walking around the lake. The park's signature view is L'Horloge Fleurie, built in 1955. The clock face is composed of thousands of seasonal flowers, and the patterns change with the seasons, so the color combinations you see will differ depending on when you visit. In addition to L'Horloge Fleurie, the park also features the bronze Four Seasons Fountain, the National Monument commemorating Geneva's accession to the Swiss Confederation, and memorial busts of painters and sculptors. The statues and tree shadows are interspersed throughout, making it perfect for a slow, leisurely stroll.Geneva · 31.2 km from Le Vaud

Two languages, three worlds, six lakes, one route: this is the Golden Pass route. In Montreux, the palm trees and southern vibes along the "Swiss Riviera" still prevail. French romance fills the air. Vineyards and gardens can be captured as the Golden Pass Express goes uphill, the trains are fading away, and a look back at Lake Geneva, the tunnels, and more. The Golden Pass Express is a fascinating route connecting the beautiful lakes of Switzerland such as Lake Geneva, Lake Thun, Lake Brienz and Lake Lucerne.Montreux · 51.6 km from Le Vaud

Chillon Castle

Chillon Castle stands on a small rocky island jutting into the eastern end of Lake Geneva, facing the lakeside town of Montreux and connected to the shore by a wooden bridge. The entire castle follows the contours of the oval island rock, surrounded by water on all sides. From the shore, it appears to float on the lake, with its gray-white stone walls and reddish-brown conical towers reflecting the lake and mountain scenery like a painting. The land-facing side is studded with arrow slits and shooting ports, forming a heavily fortified defense structure, while the lakeside features elegant Gothic arched windows, once the residence of the House of Savoy—a harmonious blend of strength and grace in this ancient waterborne fortress. The earliest written records of the castle date back to the mid-12th century, though its central keep was built in the 11th century, predating documented history. Strategically located on a vital north-south European trade route, merchants traveling to Rome via the Great St. Bernard Pass would pass by its gates. The House of Savoy leveraged this position to collect tolls and expanded the castle into their summer palace in the 13th century. After Bernese forces captured it in 1536, it successively became a bailiff's residence, armory, and prison. The castle's fame stems partly from its dungeon: François Bonivard, abbot of Geneva's St. Victor Abbey, was chained to a pillar here for years after opposing the Duke of Savoy's control of Geneva, until his rescue by the Bernese. In 1816, Lord Byron visited, immortalized the story in his poem "The Prisoner of Chillon," and carved his name on the pillar. Rousseau featured it in "Julie, or the New Heloise," while Hugo and other literati also wrote about it. Crossing the wooden bridge into the castle reveals courtyards, halls, bedrooms, the keep, and dungeons—like stepping through a three-dimensional medieval history book. The underground prison is particularly noteworthy: its walls are built from the island's natural rock, topped with Gothic vaulting typically reserved for cathedrals, with Byron's inscribed pillar still standing. Several grand halls once hosted Savoyard feasts, their windows framing Lake Geneva's vistas. The Bernese bedroom displays an elaborate four-poster bed with heating, a bathroom, and running water—remarkably advanced for its time. The Chapel of St. George preserves 14th-century religious murals, rare survivors of Reformation iconoclasm. The armory exhibits medieval to 17th-century weapons—swords, halberds, arquebuses, crossbows, and armor—offering insights into period warfare. Visitors should linger: beyond interior artifacts, the lakeside path offers classic panoramic views of this aquatic fortress.Veytaux · 53.2 km from Le Vaud

Old Town of Geneva

Old Town of Geneva is nestled on the hillside on the south bank of the Rhône River. Its cobblestone streets form the framework, with churches, historic houses, and ancient fountains scattered throughout. The pace is much slower than elsewhere in the city, making it a perfect spot for a stroll to soak in the old-world atmosphere of Geneva. At its highest point stands the Cathedrale Saint-Pierre Geneve, founded in the 12th century and an important witness to the Reformation in Geneva. Climb the narrow stairs inside the tower to the belfry for panoramic views of the layered rooftops and the distant lake and mountains. The former residence and place of birth of the philosopher Rousseau is located along the main thoroughfare. Place du Bourg-de-Four, once a medieval market, is now surrounded by open-air cafes and small restaurants; it is a delightful spot to enjoy a coffee or sample local flavors after a walk. The winding alleys are home to galleries, antique shops, and bistros, where you might discover anything from old European paintings to vintage items from around the world—browsing for souvenirs while exploring is a delight. For history enthusiasts, the Maison Tavel is a must-visit; this ancient residence documents centuries of local life. Secret medieval passages still remain underground, adding a touch of intrigue to your stroll.Geneva · 31.7 km from Le Vaud

Landmark Significance: As the city center of Milan, the square is an irregularly shaped polygon covering approximately 12,000 square meters. It was the coronation site of the first king after the unification of Italy (Napoleon was crowned here in 1805) and is now part of a World Heritage Site.

When you come to Geneva, Switzerland, everyone knows about the famous flower clock; but few people know about the English Garden where the flower clock is located. The English Garden, covering an area of 25,000 square meters, is the largest of the series of urban parks on the shores of Lake Geneva in downtown Geneva. In 1854, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Geneva's joining the Swiss Confederation, the English Garden was built on the shores of Lake Geneva on the north side of the old city. Another hundred years later - in 1955, the world's first flower clock was built on the southwest edge of the garden. The flower clock, with a dial diameter of 5 meters and composed of more than 6,500 bright flowers, has been ranked first in the world for decades and is deeply loved by citizens and tourists. Gradually, the flower clock has become a landmark of Geneva, while the name of the English Garden has been quietly forgotten. After getting up close with the big flower clock, we walked into the English Garden, where lush and towering ancient trees, spacious and lush green lawns, fountains with overflowing water, and quaint and elegant pavilions complement each other with the clear blue lake and couples walking hand in hand... It feels romantic and fresh, it's really great.

Take the train to Montreux and stroll along the shore of Lake Geneva. Beyond the water are the snow-capped mountains, stretching quietly. Chillon Castle is on a small stone island near the water. It is not big, but it takes you back to medieval Europe. It is worth a visit.

The old town still has its own flavor. The old streets, leisurely people, and busy business elites are all mixed together. There is no sense of disobedience in the same space. The feeling of Europe is really good. It is worth a visit.
