Penang Hill

Penang Hill is located in the central part of Penang Island, known as "Bukit Bendera" in Malay, meaning "flag hill," and consists of several continuous peaks. Due to its high elevation and dense forests, the hilltop is much cooler than the lowlands. During the British colonial era, it served as a retreat for officials, and many old colonial houses from that time still dot the area. Most travelers choose to take the century-old cable car to ascend. This mountain railway opened in the 1920s and was later fully renovated. As the cabins climb the steep slope, the views of George Town and the Penang Strait gradually unfold beneath. Upon reaching the summit, the vista opens up: on clear days, the skyline of George Town, the shimmering waters of the Penang Strait, and the verdant mountains of the Malay Peninsula across the strait are all clearly visible. Here, the colors of the sea, sky, and land blend, and one can truly appreciate why Penang is often called the "Pearl of the Orient." The Habitat, a rainforest discovery center at the summit, is also worth a visit. A 1.6 km natural trail winds along the edge of an ancient rainforest over 100 million years old. The elevated canopy walkway, Langur Way, offers a bird's-eye view of the forest, while the treetop observation deck, Curtis Crest, is an ideal spot to watch the sunset. Over 2,000 species of flora and fauna inhabit this forest. If time permits, consider heading up in the evening—after sunset, wait for nightfall as the lights of George Town and the strait gradually illuminate like a starry sky, a sight many travelers find unforgettable. Those who enjoy hiking can also trek to the summit via the old mountain trails. A reminder: temperatures vary greatly between day and night at the summit, and fog is common, so bring a light jacket. Weekends and holidays see more cable car riders, so going early or during off-peak hours is advisable.Malaysia · Northeast Penang Island

Awana SkyWay (Formerly known as Genting Highlands Premium Outlets Cable Car)

Awana SkyWay (Formerly known as Genting Highlands Premium Outlets Cable Car) is the main aerial route to and from the mountaintop resort area in Genting Highlands, Malaysia. Departing from Awana Central Station on the mountainside, it takes approximately 10 minutes to reach Genting Highlands Station at the summit, climbing over 600 m during the journey. The cable car spans the entire valley, offering views of the pristine tropical rainforest below, said to be over 100 million years old. As the cabins ascend slowly along the mountain ridge, mist often drifts through the sea of trees. On clear days, you can see the layered mountain ranges in the distance, and the temperature at the summit is noticeably cooler than at the base. The cabins come in two types: standard cabins, which are shared with other travelers and have higher capacity, and glass-bottom cabins. Among the over 100 cabins in operation, only about 10 feature transparent floors, allowing direct views of the rainforest and deep valleys below. Those seeking this "floating" experience should plan ahead. The route also includes a stop at Chin Swee Temple Station, where travelers can disembark with the same ticket to visit the hillside Chin Swee Temple and Ten Thousand Buddhas Pagoda before reboarding to continue the uphill ride—a highlight many travelers miss. The summit station connects directly to the SkyAvenue mall, with attractions like Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park just steps away. Mountain weather is unpredictable, so for clearer views of the expansive landscape, mornings are usually the best time to ride. • Take the Awana SkyWay (Formerly known as Genting Highlands Premium Outlets Cable Car) to enjoy the picturesque view of Genting Highlands and the breathtaking 360° panorama. • Overlook the 130-million-year-old tropical rainforest. • Feel the cool mountain air and enjoy an experience like flying high in the sky. △ Admire the 130-million-year-old tropical rainforest below, with breathtaking views in sight. △ Enjoy an extraordinary journey in the sky.Malaysia · Genting Highlands

Batu Caves is a cave temple complex formed by limestone hills and is one of the most famous Hindu pilgrimage sites outside of India. This karst cave complex contains over 20 known caves, with the larger Temple Cave housing the Hindu deity of war, Murugan. It is also the central venue for Malaysia's Thaipusam festival, which attracts a large number of Hindu devotees for pilgrimage every year. At the foot of the hill stands a gilded statue of Murugan, approximately 42.7 m high and entirely gold-plated, serving as an iconic landmark of the scenic area. Next to the statue is a colorful rainbow staircase, requiring a climb of 272 steps to reach the cave entrance. Flocks of pigeons often gather on both sides of the stairs, and the plaza is dotted with multiple Hindu statues and colorful decorations. After entering the Temple Cave, walking deep along the towering cave walls, sunlight pours in from natural openings in the cave ceiling, illuminating the rock walls and Hindu shrines, with exquisite statues of Hindu deities distributed throughout the cave. The Cave Villa complex at the foot of the hill consists of the Art Gallery Cave and Museum Cave, displaying statues and murals based on Hindu mythology. To the left of the main staircase is the Ramayana Cave - Suyambu Lingam, with a tall statue of Hanuman standing at the entrance, and murals inside the cave depicting classic scenes from the Indian epic "Ramayana." Stalactites, stalagmites, and other karst geological features can be seen on the cave walls, and the caves are also home to various bats and other cave-dwelling creatures. A rock climbing route has been opened on the northeast side of the hill, attracting many rock climbing enthusiasts to take on the challenge.Malaysia · Batu Caves

The price was a bit high, but the scenery was beautiful. Unfortunately, there was no refund or cancellation policy. Because the driver deliberately led us on a wrong route, we were delayed and couldn't reach the top for the view. The children were very disappointed, and the driver refused to compensate us. We had to buy new tickets ourselves and visit the next day.

River crossing from Kuala Tahan village to Taman Negara National Park. The cost is 2 ringgit one way, and boats are always available. One goes back and forth as you approach. Nice view of the river.

One of the best memories and most unforgettable experiences! Visiting Aquaria was truly amazing. Seeing the marine life up close, especially the beautiful rays swimming gracefully above us, was such a magical experience. Walking through the underwater tunnel made me feel like I was in another world, surrounded by the beauty of the ocean. Every corner offered something fascinating to see, making the entire visit worthwhile. It’s not just a place to explore, but an experience to remember. Definitely a must-visit, and a memory I will cherish for a long time!

Genting Highlands is really popular among locals. It is packed with people every weekend and holiday. There are several hotels all over Genting Highlands, including three-star, four-star and five-star hotels. Moreover, the hotel group is very generous and provides free rooms (but certain conditions must be met). This "free" strategy can also attract tourists to come and consume frequently.

Definitely worth the experience and achievement of climbing the stairs. Monkeys are intimidating and although I had no food, one jumped onto my backpack while I was climbing the stairs. Nature inside the cave is lovely.
