Stilt Fisherman sri lankalocated in the Koggala area on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, is a unique traditional fishing view. Unlike traditional ports with large berths, modern equipment, and fleets of fishing boats, the fishing area here is mainly distributed near the shallow coastal reefs, surrounded by the open Indian Ocean, stretches of sandy beaches, and a coastline that rises and falls with the waves. Looking along the coast, wooden poles stand in the shallow water, creating a unique stilt fishing scene. The main facilities here are simple and practical, centered on wooden poles fixed in the shallow sea and crossbars erected on them. Fishermen usually wade barefoot to the poles, climb onto the crossbars, and sit on the makeshift wooden frames to fish with rods.Koggala · 571m from downtown

Flag Rock is a prominent part of the coastal city wall, a huge rock on the sea, echoing with the lighthouse. During the Dutch colonial period, the flag rock used to be a Portuguese bunker, used to remind ships to be careful of the surrounding underwater reefs. 1. Diving Boys Here you can see the famous Galle Diving Boys, they will jump off the flag rock and jump into the frightening rocky sea. 2. Enjoy the sunrise and sunset This is a good place to enjoy the sunrise and sunset. Standing here in the early morning and looking towards the lighthouse, the sun rises slowly from the direction of Lumasala, and the entire Indian Ocean is illuminated golden, which is very spectacular. In the evening, facing away from the lighthouse, you can see the magnificent Indian Ocean sunset. It is very pleasant to take pictures here and blow the sea breeze.Galle · 12.7 km from Koggala

Parrot Rock is located east of Mirissa Bay, ideal for sunset viewing and a great sea fishing spot. 1. When the tide is high, the road will be covered by sea water, the surrounding is very suitable for snorkeling, and the waves hitting the reefs are also spectacular. 2. When the tide is low, you can walk up the steps, but you must be careful, because there is basically no handrail on the right, and the one on the left is also shaky, so it is dangerous.Mirissa · 15.9 km from Koggala

Utrecht Bunker is located in the southeast corner of the old city of Galle, facing the sea. Above it is the lighthouse, which is the landmark building of Galle Castle. The lighthouse was built in 1938 and is 18 meters high. Due to frequent painting, the white lighthouse is very dazzling. There are tall acacia trees nearby, which are very beautiful and suitable for taking pictures. This lighthouse appears on almost all kinds of souvenirs about Galle.Galle · 12.5 km from Koggala

The Mira Mosque is located next to the Utrecht Lighthouse and is a mosque in the fortress. The mosque was built in 1796 during the Dutch rule. The whole is a pure white building, which is very holy and magnificent from a distance. What makes Mira Mosque different from other mosques is that it is not the usual Islamic style with a dome, it looks more like a church. At dusk, the lights of the mosque will come on, and the atmosphere will be more attractive and very beautiful.Galle · 12.5 km from Koggala

The Dutch Church, also known as the Dutch Reformed Church, was built in the 17th century and was donated by the Dutch commander Casparus de Jong and his wife to express their gratitude for the birth of their child. 1. Introduction to the church The church was built on the ruins of a convent. The exterior is white with beautiful outlines. There is not much ornate decoration inside. There are only some simple patterned stained glass mosaic windows and the pulpit on the left side of the church. A huge canopy above. The church also houses an organ from 1760, and a pulpit made of East Indian ebony from Malaysia, where priests preach every Sunday. 2. Tombstones and brick churches are especially the ground and the outer walls covered with tombstones. They are the tombstones of the former Dutch residents in Galle, and were moved here from the Dutch cemetery in the old Dutch period. One of the more famous is the tombstone of Galle commander E.A.H. Abraham, located not far from the entrance to the church, above which is decorated with an hourglass and a head.Galle · 12.9 km from Koggala

Hikkaduwa is one of the oldest beaches in Sri Lanka and one of the most popular tourist areas in Sri Lanka. One of the highlights here is the "Underwater Coral Park", where visitors can sit in glass boats and admire corals and swimming fish. Hekkaduwa attracts countless tourists with its unique beach culture, stunning ocean views and a stretch of coastal train from Colombo to Hekkaduwa. 1. History This beach was discovered by a group of hippies in the 1970s, so it is heavily influenced by the more casual culture of hippies. 2. Status Quo There are no resort hotels here, most of them are family hotels. The peak tourist season from November to April of the following year makes the whole town of Hikkaduwa extraordinarily lively, and diving and surfing enthusiasts from all over the world come here for vacation.Hikkaduwa · 30.1 km from Koggala

Watching the stilt fishermen of Sri Lanka is like witnessing a living painting—grace, balance, and tradition suspended above the sea. Perched on slender poles as the sun dips low, these silent silhouettes tell a timeless story of resilience and harmony with nature. It’s not just fishing—it’s an art form passed down through generations, standing tall against tides and time. A truly humbling and poetic glimpse into coastal life that stays with you long after the waves fade.

When we arrived at Unawatuna Beach, the weather was great, but it was a pity that we didn't see the spectacular scene of fishermen fishing. However, the scenery here is very beautiful. It may be sunny, but there are not many tourists.

Flag Rock is a big rock on the seashore of the castle. It can be described like this. It gives people a very special feeling. From here, the surrounding view is relatively open and the scenery is also good.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Hikkaduwa Beach, and I must say it left an unforgettable impression on me. This beautiful beach destination, located on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, is renowned for its great surfing conditions, high waves, and breathtaking sunsets. Here's my review of Hikkaduwa Beach. One of the standout features of Hikkaduwa Beach is its reputation as a surfer's paradise. If you're a fan of riding the waves, this is the place to be. The consistent swells and high waves make it an ideal spot for both beginners and experienced surfers. Whether you're looking to catch your first wave or conquer a challenging break, Hikkaduwa Beach offers an exhilarating surfing experience that won't disappoint. The beach itself is simply stunning. The powdery golden sand stretches along the coast, inviting visitors to relax and soak up the sun. The crystal-clear turquoise waters provide a refreshing escape from the heat, and the surrounding palm trees create a picturesque backdrop. Hikkaduwa Beach is well-maintained and clean, making it a pleasant environment for beachgoers. One of the highlights of my visit to Hikkaduwa Beach was witnessing the mesmerizing sunsets. As the sun begins its descent, the sky transforms into a canvas of vibrant hues, painting an awe-inspiring picture. Watching the sun sink below the horizon while casting its warm glow on the waves is a truly magical experience. I highly recommend staying until dusk to witness the beauty of the Hikkaduwa Beach sunset. In terms of amenities, Hikkaduwa Beach offers a range of facilities to ensure visitors have a comfortable stay. There are several surf schools and rental shops available, providing equipment and lessons for those looking to learn or improve their surfing skills. Additionally, you'll find a variety of beachfront restaurants and cafes, offering delicious local cuisine and refreshing beverages.Ho
