Thousand Islands

Thousand Islandslie at the outlet where Lake Ontario flows into the St Lawrence River, stretching dozens of km downstream from the Kingston area, with over 1,800 islands of various sizes scattered across the river, belonging to both Canada and the United States. The islands vary greatly in size: the smallest are just a few rocks that remain above water year-round, and some are even small enough to hold only a single house, while the larger ones feature villages and farmland; there is also an interesting local standard for what constitutes an island—a piece of land that remains above water year-round and can support 2 trees counts as an "island." These islands are scattered across the St Lawrence River like stars, resembling a fairytale wonderland.Leeds and Grenville United Counties · 40.9 km from Kingston

Kingston City Hall, completed in 1844, is a neoclassical limestone building located in the heart of downtown on the shores of Lake Ontario, occupying an entire city block. Kingston is known as the "Limestone City," and this historic building, with its columned portico and domed clock tower, is one of the city's landmarks. When construction began, Kingston was the capital of the Province of Canada, and its grand scale and imposing style were built to match its status as the capital. Old Montreal

Old Montreal is one of the best-preserved historic districts in North America. Founded in 1642 by French settlers along the banks of the St. Lawrence River, it was designated a historic district by Quebec Province in 1964. Cobblestone streets wind through stone buildings dating from the 17th to 19th centuries, where French colonial and Victorian-era architecture stand side by side, making you feel as if you have wandered into an old European city. Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal, Place d'Armes, Place Jacques-Cartier, and Saint-Paul Street West form the core sightseeing axis of the old city, where churches, squares, and ancient streets appear in turn. The Old Port area along the river has been transformed into a waterfront leisure zone, where walking paths, cruise boats, and riverside views blend the historic district with modern vitality. This is also a representative district for experiencing the blend of Montreal's English and French cultures, where the architectural fabric left by the French colonial era coexists with remnants of British municipal-style architecture, creating a neighborhood with a rare combination of historical depth and vibrant local life in a North American city.Canada · Montreal

Parliament Hill is located on the south bank of the Ottawa River atParliament Hill, a Gothic Revival architectural complex consisting of the Centre Block, East Block, West Block, and the Library of Parliament. Construction began in 1859 and was largely completed by 1876. A fire in 1916 destroyed the Centre Block, and the rebuilt Peace Tower was completed in 1927 to commemorate Canadians who sacrificed their lives in World War I. The towering clock tower is now a prominent landmark on the Ottawa skyline. The daily Changing of the Guard ceremony and light shows in the summer add a sense of historical depth and modern vitality to this famous Canadian landmark. The Centennial Flame, the open plaza, the towering Peace Tower, the lifelike sculptures, and the Parliament buildings, which are open to the public, attract visitors from all over the world year-round.Canada · Ottawa

University of Toronto was founded in 1827 and is a well-known public research university in Canada. The St. George campus is the main campus and has no walls, blending into downtown Toronto's neighborhoods. The campus features century-old Romanesque revival buildings alongside modernist new structures, and the contrast between old and new creates a unique charm. Entering the campus and crossing the open green leads to the main building of University College, a mid-19th-century Romanesque revival structure that is one of the campus's iconic views, with its heavy stone exterior and arched doors and windows conveying the solemn dignity of a classical university. On the side of the lawn, Hart House is another classic building, housing reading rooms, galleries, and student activity spaces, and its Gothic revival style is worth a close look. The campus is dotted with sculptures and green spaces, and it is common to see students in small groups discussing or relaxing on the lawn, creating a strong academic atmosphere. Strolling across the campus along King's College Circle to the Hart House lawn offers a concentrated way to appreciate the campus scenery shaped by generations of interwoven architecture.Canada · Toronto

Yonge Street is a major north-south artery in Ontario, Canada, starting from the shores of Lake Ontario in the south, running through downtown Toronto and North York, and extending into the York Regional Municipality, spanning dozens of km. It also serves as the baseline for dividing Toronto into east and west. The street was built in the late 18th century, connecting the bustling areas along its route. In its early years, the street was connected to Highway 11, with a total length of nearly 1,900 km, and it once held a Guinness World Record for this length. Later, the relevant sections were re-designated, and the record was revoked. This anecdote remains a topic of conversation among locals to this day.Canada · Richmond Hill

Montréal Underground City is a vast pedestrian network extending beneath and through the indoor spaces of downtown Montreal. With a total length of over 30 km, it connects more than 60 residential and commercial complexes, multiple subway stations, and thousands of shops, restaurants, and office buildings. Hundreds of thousands of people pass through it every day—it serves as both a daily route for locals to commute and shop, and a unique urban form that has grown to help the city cope with its long, harsh winters. This network was not planned and built all at once; rather, it has developed organically since 1962, starting around Victoria Square, Birmingham and expanding gradually alongside the opening of the Montreal subway and the city's continuous growth. The network integrates multiple subway lines, commuter train stations, large shopping centers, and even sports venues like Centre Bell. With its rich layers of functionality, it has truly become an "indoor city within a city." Strolling through it, the atmosphere is similar to a street-level commercial district, yet you remain in a climate-controlled indoor space the entire time—no need to bundle up in winter or carry an umbrella on rainy days.Canada · Montreal

The Thousand Islands consist of over a thousand islands, with well-preserved natural ecology. The seawater has excellent visibility, allowing for underwater reef views during boat tours. The air is rich in negative ions, making it very comfortable and much fresher than the city.

The most popular attraction in Kingston is its City Hall, which is even more magnificent than the Parliament Building in Ottawa and the City Hall in Montreal. It is said that Kingston almost became the capital of the province of Canada. The City Hall was the product of the ambition at that time and became a historical treasure.

Recommended Day to Visit: SATURDAY On weekends there are flea market beside the main building. pretty cool to check it out for handcrafted goods. The market itself has lots of awesome goodies like sweets and snacks to taste from. Very local and very friendly store keepers. DO BRING CASH!! Not all stores accept card payments.

Parliament Hill is the office of the Canadian government and is usually closed to the public. Now there is a light show every night at 5:30, which projects pictures with constantly changing colors and music. The whole show is about 10 minutes long and is played in a loop all night.

Yonge Street, which starts from the shore of Lake Ontario, has always been the image label of the city of Toronto. It is said that the numbering ranges from 1 to more than 8,000, and it can extend all the way to Lake Ontario. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Yonge Street is the longest street in the world. My goodness, the numbering did not reach the lake, but it almost reached the United States.
