Lake Naivasha

Lake Naivasha is located on the floor of the Great Rift Valley in Kenya, in the highlands northwest of Nairobi, at an altitude of approx. 1,900m. The lake's name comes from the Maasai language, meaning rough water, named for the way the water rises during storms. While most lakes in the Rift Valley are alkaline, this is a rare freshwater lake due to the rivers that flow into it year-round. The lakeshore is surrounded by dense papyrus and acacia forests, with lush vegetation, making it a home for birds and hippos. Boat tours are a classic way to experience the lake. On the water, you can often see hippos poking their ears and nostrils above the surface, and in the evening, they come ashore in groups to graze. The lake is home to hundreds of bird species. Pelicans, pied kingfishers, and various other kingfishers are everywhere. A signature sight here is the boatman whistling and tossing fish to attract fish eagles, which then swoop down to snatch them from the water's surface. Crescent Island, a crescent-shaped island in the lake, has no predators, allowing you to get off the boat and walk among giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and waterbucks—this is one of the few places in Kenya where you can go on a walking safari. The area around the lake is also dotted with rose greenhouses, making it a major production area for fresh-cut flowers in Kenya and a popular vacation spot for locals.Kenya · Naivasha

Mara River

Mara River is a cross-border river spanning Kenya and Tanzania, with a total length of approx. 395 km. It originates in the mountains of Kenya and winds its way intoLake Victoria, flowing right between the Serengeti and Masai Mara grasslands, serving as a critical crossing point on the route of the Great East African Migration. The river is home to Nile crocodiles and pods of hippos year-round. The crocodiles are fierce, and the hippos are territorial, with both species dominating these waters. When the great migration herds are not crossing, the river is relatively calm, with birds often resting in the trees along the banks, creating a serene savanna riverside scene. The true spectacle of this river occurs during the annual dry season. As the grasslands on the Tanzania side begin to wither and turn yellow, the migration herds, led by wildebeests and accompanied by zebras and gazelles, head north from the Serengeti. They arrive at the riverbanks between July–September, with the activity peaking in August and September. The wildebeest herds gather repeatedly along the river, pacing and testing the waters, until the lead individuals plunge into the rushing water, followed by thousands of animals surging across. Crocodiles lie in ambush underwater, hippos charge to defend their territory, and stampedes and drownings occur within the herd. Upon crossing, they are greeted by the lush, grassy plains on the other side—a "heaven" for the wildebeests, which is why this scene is known as the "Crossing to Heaven." The timing of the crossing is uncertain; the wildebeests may linger on the bank for hours or even longer before launching their charge. This 3,000 km migration takes place every year, and losses along the way are inevitable. By the beginning of the following year, hundreds of thousands of wildebeest calves are born on the southern Serengeti plains, with birth and loss cycling endlessly along the riverbanks.Kenya · Mara

Right next to the concrete Central Business District lies a large, well-manicured green space: Uhuru Park. It is a popular recreational spot for locals. During the day, it is a destination for families out for a picnic, business people taking a break from the office, and anyone looking to enjoy a bit of greenery. On December 12, 1963, the people of Kenya held their independence celebrations in Nairobi. To commemorate Independence Day, the Kenyan government decided to develop it into a garden and named it Uhuru Park. "Uhuru" means "independence, freedom" in the local Swahili language.Kenya · Nairobi

The forests of Mount Roita have been an important natural resource for the local Maasai people since ancient times. Most of their daily food, medicines, building materials, clean water and pastures come directly or indirectly from the forest. Therefore, Roita occupies an important position in the culture of the Maasai people. There are poems praising the forest, and some ancient trees are worshipped as gods.Kenya · Siana

Lake Naivasha, Kenya 🇰🇪 Located within the Great Rift Valley, Lake Naivasha is one of Kenya's most beautiful freshwater lakes, often referred to as "the most beautiful lake in the Great Rift Valley," at an altitude of 1884 meters. Take a boat trip to see hippos and waterbirds, and hike to Crescent Island to get up close to giraffes, zebras, and hippos.

The Mara River divides Tanzania and Kenya. To the west of the Mara River is Tanzania, and the savannah here is called Serengeti. To the east of the Mara River is Kenya, and the savannah on the Kenyan side is called Masai Mara. In fact, they are the same East African savannah, and the area of Serengeti is about 10 times that of Masai Mara. Every year, migratory animals such as wildebeests and zebras on the East African savannah will migrate clockwise. From June to August, it is the time when they cross the Mara River. Because the scenery of crossing the river is very spectacular, it is also called the Ferry of the Sky River. I saw the Mara River from a hot air balloon and from a car, and the angles were different and each had its own characteristics. I came here in early July. I saw hippos and crocodiles from the hot air balloon and in the car on the shore, but unfortunately I didn’t see the Ferry of the Sky River. I left a little regret and look forward to coming again next time.

[Scenery] Mount Loita is a great place for nature lovers. I liked the waterfalls, caves and trails, but the picnic spot was a bit remote. [Fun] Because it was during the rainy season
