Things to do in Kaifeng

A single ticket to Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden grants access for three days, which is very convenient! 👍 There are so many attractions inside! We spent two days there, enjoying all the attractions and watching performances like "Yue Fei's Spear Against Little Liang Wang" and "The Defense of Bianjing (Kaifeng) in the Northern Song Dynasty." A trip to Wansui Mountain in Kaifeng is a must. By day, it's a vibrant and unrestrained Song Dynasty world, with ancient alleys, pavilions, and towers—everywhere you look, there's a picturesque ancient charm. Strolling through the streets feels like stepping into a real-life ancient dream. Turning around, you enter the bustling metropolis of Shanghai, where the rhythm of the old days flows gently. Cheongsams sway, the evening breeze is soft, and you're instantly transported to the prosperous Republic of China era, where old and new meet in a tender way. As night falls, lights gradually illuminate the eaves, adorned with starlight. The most breathtaking spectacle is the display of iron-making fireworks, bursting into the air like a shower of sparks falling to earth. A single visit to Wansui Mountain is like stepping into a thousand years in a single day, experiencing both the chivalry of the martial world and the gentle romance of youth.

It's very worthwhile, but it's also very crowded, which might slightly detract from the overall experience. However, the people are incredibly welcoming, and there are many beautiful spots for taking photos. The food is also affordable and inexpensive, which kids enjoy. I'll definitely go back when it's less crowded.

Those who have seen Bao Zheng (a famous Chinese judge) will have a different perspective on this. It's quite entertaining and interactive, with many performers who can participate. There are also many performances throughout the scenic area, so keep an eye out for the notice boards.

The banks of the Bian River are brightly lit at night, which is very beautiful. There are also many performances along the way. After dinner, you can take a boat to enjoy the scenery, which is perfect. It costs 50 yuan per person, which is not bad. After boarding the boat, you can stroll around the Xisi Night Market and have a late-night snack.

The temple is generally quite nice; the Thousand-Hand Guanyin and the Five Hundred Arhats are worth seeing. A leisurely stroll around takes about two hours, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the hustle and bustle. It's a great first stop in Kaifeng, very close to the Kaifeng Prefecture, making it a perfect day trip. The Drum Tower is nearby, so you can visit it and then head out for some food. However, the streets and alleys around the scenic area are quite dilapidated, the restaurants are generally unappetizing, and the service is poor – practically nonexistent. The food is generally unpalatable.

Short Version The 3-day double ticket for the Iron Pagoda Scenic Area is excellent value for money. For 55 yuan, two people can enter the park multiple times within three days. The electronic voucher allows for convenient entry by scanning a QR code. The Iron Pagoda is ancient and historically significant, and the park environment is tranquil, making it perfect for family outings. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kaifeng! Detailed Version During the National Day holiday, my family and I visited Kaifeng. No paper tickets were needed for entry; we simply showed our electronic vouchers for verification. The process was simple and convenient. The Iron Pagoda, weathered by time, possesses a classic and historical atmosphere. The park is lush with greenery, quiet and elegant. We learned about the story of this thousand-year-old pagoda as we strolled around, making it especially suitable for introducing children to history and culture. The ticket price is affordable, and the experience was excellent. Highly recommended!

Overall, it's quite good. The scenic area is beautiful, with green mountains and clear waters, and tranquil gardens, perfect for a stroll. Climbing to the top of Longting offers a panoramic view of the entire park, ideal for taking photos. There are also many NPCs to interact with, which is quite fun. Tianbo Yang Mansion is a separate attraction within the Longting Scenic Area and requires a separate ticket. Buying a combined ticket is quite convenient. Tianbo Yang Mansion mainly tells the story of the Yang family generals, with many NPCs and various live performances, providing a strong interactive experience. However, the facilities are somewhat outdated and could benefit from renovation and improvement for a better overall experience.

We arrived a bit late to admire the chrysanthemums, but the garden was still incredibly crowded. Some of the longer-blooming chrysanthemums were still breathtaking; beauty can be so diverse and vibrant. I'll definitely come back next year at a more suitable time.

Although the city wall is quite long and there are paid sightseeing buses, the area to explore from the Daliang Gate is not very large. There are some NPC interactions and a chrysanthemum exhibition near the gate, which can be seen in about 15 minutes. There's a 10-minute 3D film on the city tower introducing the wall's history, which is acceptable and one of the few experiences worth stopping for. It's said there are performances, but there weren't any when I saw them. I wouldn't recommend it as a must-see attraction in Kaifeng. If you have extra time, you can visit; if you're short on time, skip it. Compared to the Xi'an City Wall, it's definitely not comparable.
