Tropical Flower Garden

The Tropical Flower Garden is located within the Yunnan Institute of Tropical Crops in Jinghong, combining a research base with a sightseeing garden. It serves as the institute's tropical crop germplasm repository, preserving over a thousand species of tropical flowers, fruits, and economic trees, allowing visitors to learn about tropical plants while strolling. The garden features interconnected themed sections. The bougainvillea in the foliage garden blooms almost year-round with layered hues, while the gardenia petals in the egg garden—white outside and yellow inside—are favored by Dai women for adorning their hair. The five trees and six flowers area showcases plants deeply rooted in Dai culture, such as bodhi trees, talipot palms, betel nuts, and musella lasiocarpa. The waterfront flower zone displays giant Victoria amazonica leaves and vibrant water lilies. Children especially enjoy the tropical fruit germplasm garden, where jackfruit, wax apples, mangoes, and macadamia nuts bear fruit year-round, alongside the miracle fruit that turns sour tastes sweet. During harvest seasons, visitors can pick and taste fresh fruit. The coconut grove and lotus terraces offer opportunities to feed koi and observe waterbirds. The garden also preserves old rubber trees planted in the late 1950s, featuring latex-tapping demonstrations that highlight Xishuangbanna's rubber cultivation history. A waterway runs through the garden, with most key views along its banks, making navigation easy. Informative plaques accompany many plants, ideal for families exploring at a leisurely pace. On summer nights, the garden organizes firefly and nocturnal insect observation activities. With minimal physical demand and convenient urban access, a half-day visit covers flowers, fruits, and rubber history, making it a hassle-free, family-friendly educational outing.China · Jinghong

The Hani terrace of Yuanyang is located in the southern part of Ailao Mountain, where the Hani people have cultivated vast terraced fields over more than a thousand years. The mountaintop forests conserve water, villages nestle on the slopes, and layered paddies stretch from the foothills to the river valleys. Forests, villages, terraces, and water systems coexist, forming a high-altitude rice farming system still in use today. The attraction consists of areas like Bada, Duoyishu, Laohuzui, and Qingkou. A local saying, "Sunrise at Duoyishu, sunset at Laohuzui," captures the classic spots for sunrise and sunset views. For sunrise, head to Duoyishu. These terraces face east, and during the irrigation season, the fields mirror the sky. Morning mist often fills the valleys, and as the sun rises, its glow and cloud reflections shimmer on the water, turning the slopes golden. Before dawn, the viewing platforms are crowded with photographers carrying tripods—arrive early to secure a front-row spot. For sunset, visit Bada, where thousands of terraced levels cascade from the mountaintop to the valley, glowing from warm yellow to crimson under the evening light, offering expansive views. Laohuzui's terraces are nestled in deep valleys with dramatic elevation changes and steep lines, each area offering a distinct charm. Qingkou is a Hani ethnic village beside the terraces, where mushroom-shaped thatched houses and creaking water mills preserve the traditional village atmosphere. After exploring the viewing platforms, stroll through the village to glimpse the authentic Hani way of life behind the terraces. The areas are connected by mountain roads, so allow time for travel. Plan one to two days to experience sunrise, sunset, and village life. The irrigation season from winter to spring enhances the mirror-like effect of the terraces and increases the chances of witnessing sea of clouds.China · Yuanyang

Fuxian Lake

166 reviews
Fuxian Lake is located between Chengjiang, Jiangchuan District, and Huaning County in Yuxi, Yunnan. As most of the lake lies within Chengjiang, locals also call it "Chengjiang Sea." Accessible by a roughly one-hour drive from Kunming, it is a popular lakeside getaway in central Yunnan. Covering over 200 square km, it ranks as Yunnan's third-largest lake by area after Dianchi and Erhai, but its fame stems from its depth and water volume: with depths exceeding 150 m and a storage capacity of approx. 20 billion cubic meters, it dwarfs Dianchi and Erhai combined. The lake's crystal-clear azure waters boast transparency of up to 7–8 m, inspiring ancient descriptions like "10,000 acres of glazed glass." Highlights cluster along the western and northern shores. On the west, the Luchong scenic area nestles between mountains and the lake. A short climb up Bijia Hill rewards visitors with panoramic views, while ancient banyan trees shade its base. Here, traditional waterwheel fishing persists—locals channel lake water into ditches to catch the endemic kanglang fish. Further south, Mingxing Fish Cave's shallow, clear waters make it a hotspot for sailing boats and kayaking. The northern and eastern shores offer more photogenic scenes: coconut-fringed beaches at Moon Bay Wetland Park, red sand beaches on the Chengjiang side, the cherry blossom-lined Time Trail at Yinghua Valley, and flower fields at Fuhai Bay Wetland Park are all popular photo spots. At the lake's southwestern tip, Yudai River connects to neighboring Xingyun Lake, where the Jieyu Stone creates the curious phenomenon of "two lakes meeting, fish never crossing"—fish from each lake turn back at the stone. Divers have discovered mysterious stone structures on the lakebed, adding to its allure. The nearly 100-km ring road around the lake is ideal for self-drive or cycling tours, with mountain and lake views at every turn. Frequent stops for photos are encouraged, though holiday traffic can be heavy, so allow ample time. Lakeside restaurants serve must-try dishes like copper-pot fish and potato rice, with the tender, small-boned kanglang fish being a local delicacy. In winter, red-billed gulls overwinter here, and the soft morning and evening light creates perfect conditions for sunrise and sunset photography. For natural history enthusiasts, the nearby Maotianshan area on the north shore has yielded abundant Cambrian fossils dating back over 500 million years, worth a detour.China · Chengjiang

Worth a visit. The attraction is located in the city center, making it easily accessible. I also saw the Victoria water lilies during the National Day holiday, though they were quite small. The scenic area is rather large. Taking the sightseeing bus is suitable for families with elderly people and children.

It's quite far from Jinghong City, about 150 kilometers away. I recommend driving there and spending a day exploring. First, take a boat trip on the Nanla River, a 4.5-kilometer journey. Then, walk along the Wangtianshu Canopy Corridor, a thrilling 15-section walk! After that, you can hike the Philip Trail, a 2-kilometer-long tropical rainforest trail with stunning scenery.

The scenery was just incredible. It looked like AI because it was so so so unbelievable on the picture but you don't have to worry because as you see them in the picture is really as they are in the reality. You need a little bit of 4 hours to complete the whole thing, if you take the elevator its faster. If you have more strength and more time, you can walk through the whole way, but if it's rainy or if it's sunny, I really advise you to take either the small car or the elevator

It's definitely worth taking children and the elderly, as it saves a lot of energy. The Haigeng Dam and the Ethnic Village are nearby. I was lucky to go in mid-to-late October, and the first flocks of seagulls had already arrived. Apparently, they arrived half a month earlier than usual. Even though it was just the first flock, I felt it was already very beautiful.

I feel like I've only explored less than 5% of the Xishan Scenic Area, haha. There are definitely some special forces members in Kunming's Xishan Scenic Area! I had to catch the high-speed train to Dali this afternoon, otherwise I could have spent more time exploring. While taking the bus and sightseeing vehicle up the mountain, there were also many hiking routes. Seeing many signs and steps, it seems there are many other things to explore and experience besides Longmen. There was a senior citizen tour group from Guangdong, and their guide was saying, "Climbing Longmen will increase your worth a hundredfold!" Well, that strengthened my resolve to climb it! It definitely lived up to expectations. Although the climb wasn't long or too tiring, some steps were very steep, with angles of over 60 degrees. And the various caves and temples gave one the feeling that there were immortals and hermits hidden in the mountains—very mysterious and awe-inspiring. There weren't many people there early in the morning. It wasn't until I took the cable car down that I noticed a few people boarding, and very few people were going down. Finally, I hope this trip will really double my wealth! Everything goes smoothly, haha!

Aside from the slightly expensive ticket price, it's flawless! But it's definitely worth the money. We went at the end of July. We went early in the morning and boarded the boat without a reservation. After one round, a long queue had already formed opposite us. If you don't want to queue, definitely go early. The scenery was breathtaking; my phone couldn't capture the beauty of the view. The boatman stopped the raft midway to give us time to take photos. The whole trip took almost an hour, and it was well worth it. My parents loved it! Highly recommended!

I went during the wrong season. I visited Azheke, but the village isn't very big and there's not much to see. I had some popular coffee, which was pretty good. The sunset at Bada wasn't as good as at Tiger Mouth.

Jianshui Ancient City | A Thousand-Year-Old Lin'an, Hiding Yunnan's Gentlest Slow Time ✨ Having traveled through many ancient cities in Yunnan, I have a particular fondness for Jianshui. Unlike the bustling crowds of Dali and Lijiang, this ancient city of Lin'an, with its thousand-year history, is a truly living ancient city. There's no excessive commercialization or dense clusters of trendy shops; only the rich cultural heritage and the everyday life brimming with life, hiding the leisurely pace of southern Yunnan's life within the ancient alleyways and blue-brick walls passed down through the years. The moment you step into the ancient city, all the anxieties of your journey are soothed. The winding bluestone paths, polished by centuries of wind and rain, are both warm and rustic. Along the streets are well-arranged Ming and Qing dynasty houses and elegant stone archways, their upturned eaves embodying Chinese aesthetics, their mottled walls etched with the marks of time. Deep within the alleys, locals still live and work for generations, with wisps of smoke rising from chimneys in the morning and leisurely conversations in the afternoon—a blend of everyday life and ancient charm, gentle and healing. The spirit of the ancient city is hidden in its cultural heritage passed down through generations. The Chaoyang Tower, standing majestically in the east of the city for six hundred years, bears witness to the vicissitudes of Jianshui over a millennium. Greeting the sunrise and bidding farewell to the sunset, it is the most captivating landmark of the ancient city. The Jianshui Confucian Temple, the largest in China, is tranquil and serene. Ancient cypress trees reach for the sky, and the Pan Pond reflects the surrounding landscape. Its ancient and solemn architecture, with its bracketed eaves and flying corners, exudes a scholarly atmosphere that has continued for a thousand years. A stroll through it is filled with a refined and tranquil ambiance, inspiring awe. Every step reveals a scene of ancient charm, and every brick and tile tells a story. The Zhu Family Garden, hailed as the "Grand View Garden of Southern Yunnan," features winding corridors, secluded courtyards, and exquisitely carved beams and painted rafters. Each courtyard offers a unique view, showcasing the elegant splendor of a once-powerful family. The century-old narrow-gauge railway, winding its way through rice paddies and ancient villages, its whistle whistling softly in the evening breeze, offers an immersive experience of the romance and gentleness of bygone days—a uniquely Jianshui-esque healing romance. What's most captivating is the vibrant, everyday life of the ancient town. Everywhere you look, there are stalls selling grilled tofu, their smoke rising, the crispy exterior and tender interior a testament to Jianshui's ingrained flavor. The fragrant and sweet grass-sprout rice noodles and authentic local barbecue are affordable and delicious, each bite a taste of southern Yunnan. Spend your leisure time sitting by the roadside, watching locals chat and slowly grill tofu, letting time flow by peacefully—a truly serene and enjoyable experience. And here you'll find the unique Jianshui purple pottery, its thousand-year-old kilns burning ever since. Meticulously crafted by artisans, its crackled texture is warm and elegant, embodying the craftsmanship and heritage of southern Yunnan—the ancient town's most precious cultural symbol. By day, admire the ancient architecture and cultural heritage; by night, embrace the vibrant life of the ancient city. By day, Jianshui is like Lin'an, a city steeped in history and culture, with its scholarly atmosphere and gleaming ancient buildings. By night, Jianshui transforms into a gentle, relaxed town, with soft lights, tranquil streets, and the aroma of delicious food carried on the evening breeze, making every journey more pleasant. In Jianshui, there's no need to rush to see everything; simply stroll at your leisure. See the ancient buildings reflected in the moonlight, hear the rumble of the railway tracks, savor the everyday life, and cherish the gentle passage of time. This hidden gem of an ancient city in southern Yunnan tells the story of the most healing slow-paced life in Yunnan through its millennia-old cultural heritage and gentle, vibrant atmosphere. 🌿 (For sightseeing)
