Hangzhou Bay Bridge starts in the north at Zhengjiadai, Haiyan, Jiaxing, and ends at Shuiluwan, Cixi, Ningbo, with a total length of 36 km. It serves as a fast route connecting Shanghai and southern Jiangsu to the northern gateway of Ningbo. On weekends, it is very convenient to drive across the bridge to Ningbo and Zhoushan for seafood, or to Suzhou to enjoy the gardens. It looks even more beautiful when the lights come on at night. The bridge's winding structure spans across Hangzhou Bay, offering a visually stunning experience. The railings along the way are painted in seven rainbow-like colors, which not only create a beautiful and interesting landscape but also serve as a visual guide for drivers to gauge distance. Located in the middle of the bridge,Haitianyizhouis the bridge's landmark building. Its unique design resembles an eagle spreading its wings (platform + sightseeing tower: CNY 100). You can climb the observation deck to overlook the bridge and the scenery of Hangzhou Bay, and also buy local specialties like Jinhua ham andPutuoshan Guanyin cakes. If time permits, consider staying at theHaitianyizhou Scenic Hotelhere. Choose a sea-view room, and if the weather is clear, you can even catch the sunrise or sunset over the sea.Cixi · 25.7 km from Haiyan

South Lake is named for its location in the south of Jiaxing city. It is also one of "the 3 famous lakes in Jiangnan" along with Xuanwu lake in Nanjing, and West Lake in Hangzhou. Not only is it a scenic area, it's also an important revolutionary memorial site in the modern history of China. In 1921, the Communist Party of China was founded while on a tourist boat on South Lake in Jiaxing. If you find yourself along the lake on a rainy day, don't miss the sight of mist rising up over the lake. You can also rent a boat and go out on the lake to enjoy the views.Jiaxing · 31.1 km from Haiyan

The park offers a relatively open view, where visitors can gaze at the Hangzhou Bay waters and feel the sea breeze and tidal changes. The coastal walkway, green views, and resting areas are suitable for walking, jogging, and photography, as well as family-friendly or friend short tours. On clear days, the sunset reflecting on the sea is a popular viewing time; while on cloudy days or around high tide, you can see different bay scenes.Haiyan · 2.5 km from downtown

Shenxian Lake Ecological Park is located in Haining City. This site was originally an ordinary old stone quarry. Over the years, the quarry formed two large mining lakes, one to the north and one to the south. A mountain range running through the middle, like a saddle, divides the two lakes, creating the Twin Shenxian Lakes landscape. The scenery here is beautiful, and it has also served as a filming location for television dramas.Haining · 19.2 km from Haiyan

537 reviews
Yuehe Historic District is a remarkably well-preserved Jiangnan water town district within Jiaxing's old city. The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal flows along one side of the district, its winding path embracing the city in a crescent shape—the origin of the name "Yuehe." Since the Southern Song Dynasty, this area has been a hub for merchants and bustling markets, reaching its peak during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Today, it retains its "three rivers and three streets" framework: the Grand Canal, Outer Yuehe, and Inner Yuehe run in parallel, accompanied by Zhongji Road, Tannong, and Xiushuidou Street. The layout of alternating rivers and streets, combined with riverside corridors and wharves, showcases the classic Jiangnan water town aesthetic, offering a glimpse into the prosperity of the old Jiaxing "Jiangnan Prefecture City."Jiaxing · 33 km from Haiyan

West Lake

4.7/5

West Lake is undoubtedly the epitome of Hangzhou's beauty. The famous "Ten scenes of West Lake" surround its shores, where nature and culture complement each other, forming the core area of Hangzhou tourism. You don't need to visit every attraction - instead, spend half a day or a full day strolling along the lake. However you choose to enjoy it, the experience will surely lift your spirits. West Lake is the core attraction of Hangzhou, surrounded by clouds and mountains on three sides and the city on one side. The Su Causeway and Bai Causeway stretch across the lake, dividing it into several water areas. The lakeside scenery is highlighted by the "Ten Scenes of West Lake" from the Southern Song Dynasty, along with the later "New Ten Scenes" and "Three Additional Scenes," featuring over a hundred attractions along the shore and mountains. Pavilions, temples, pagodas, gardens, causeways, and islands complement the distant mountains and nearby waters, while legends like the Broken Bridge where Lady White Snake met Xu Xian add a layer of storytelling to the landscape. West Lake extends east from Songmuchang in Hangzhou and the north of Baolu Road turning to Shaoniangong Square, passing Baisha Road, Huancheng West Road, Hubin Road, and Nanshan Road to the south of Wansong Ridge, covering all attractions including Wu Mountain, Ziyang Mountain, and Yunju Mountain. To the south, it stretches from Gulou along the eastern foothills of Wu Mountain, Ziyang Mountain, and Yunju Mountain, passing Fengshanmen and Fenghuangshan Road, then following the West Lake water diversion channel to the north bank of the Qiantang River, turning to the Coral Sand Reservoir and ending north of Liufangling. To the west, it runs from Liufangling, Zhugan Mountain, Jiuqu Ridge, and Mingren Ridge to Meiren Peak, Beigaofeng, Lingfeng Mountain, and east of the ridge line of Laohe Mountain. To the north, it follows the foothills of Laohe Mountain (west wall of Zhejiang University), turns 30 m north of Qingzhiwu Road, connects to Yugu Road, Zhejiang University Road, and Shuguang Road, ending south of Songmuchang. West Lake has over 100 attractions, renowned for its "Ten scenes of West Lake", "New ten scenes of West Lake" and "Three reviews · Ten scenes of West Lake". West Lake overview You can explore West Lake on foot, by cruise, on electric bikes, via self-drive, or by riding. Among these, electric bikes are the most convenient and effortless option, with hop-on-hop-off sightseeing vehicles circling the entire lake. Riding along the lakeshore is romantic and leisurely, with many public bike rental spots available. For a boat tour, there are nearly 10 docks around the lake offering various vessels and routes. We highly recommend taking a cruise to Three Pools Mirroring the Moon at the lake center while enjoying the scenic views. Alternatively, you can hail a hand-rowed boat for a more flexible experience with a boatman guiding your tour. North line scenery The north shore of West Lake gathers quite a few attractions, usually starting from the remnant snow on broken bridge at the northeast corner and heading west all the way to Yuewang Temple. You can walk along Bai Causeway to Solitary Hill, visiting cultural attractions like Xiling Seal Engravers' Society, Zhejiang Provincial Museum, Chinese Seal Art Museum, and Zhongshan Park's Crane Pavilion. Enjoy authentic West Lake vinegar fish at Louwailou Restaurant, then cross Xiling Bridge to leave the island - Yuewang Temple and Breeze-ruffled lotus at Quyuan Garden are just a short distance away. If it's a summer day with strong sunlight, it is recommended to stroll along Beishan road, hiding under the dense shade of trees to admire the curve of Broken bridge and the swaying weeping willows on Bai causeway opposite. There are many entrances along the way leading to Precious stone hill, where you can hike for views, and descend to reach Yuewang temple. Yuewang square has many small shops for snacks, and the Impression West Lake show here in the evening is also worth watching. If you have ample time and energy, you can also head to Su causeway from here for a walk to enjoy the panoramic view of West Lake. Southeast coast (Lakeside-Nanshan Road) Another area with a concentration of attractions is the Hubin Road-Nanshan Road along the southeastern coast. Hubin Road is located at the junction between Hangzhou's urban area and the attraction, offering views of West Lake, a dock for West Lake cruises, and the iconic music fountain. The advantage of Hubin Road is its quick access from the attraction to the downtown business district, making it suitable for travelers with a tight itinerary to make a short stop. Head south from Hubin road and walk along Nanshan road, where you can visit attractions like Orioles singing in the willows, Long bridge, Leifeng pagoda, Evening bell at Nanping hill, and Viewing fish at flower harbor. The distance between adjacent attractions is not far, so you can walk or take a sightseeing bus or public transport, which are also convenient. You can arrange a day to visit a few of them according to your preference. Among them, Leifeng pagoda and Evening bell at Nanping hill can be visited in the evening. Listening to the bell at Jingci temple and overlooking the night view of West lake from Leifeng pagoda are both great experiences.Hangzhou · 86 km from Haiyan

The Bund is located along the Huangpu River, stretching approx. 1.5 km in length. As a symbolic attraction of Shanghai, it features a diverse collection of international architectural styles and the stunning night view of the Huangpu River as its highlights. The Bund stands with dozens of classical revival buildings in diverse styles, including the renowned Bank of China building, Shanghai Peace Hotel, Customs House, and HSBC building, recreating the former glory of the "Wall Street of the Far East." Surprisingly, these structures were neither designed by the same architect nor built in the same period, yet they possess a unique harmonious beauty. The Bund showcases various architectural styles, such as French classical, French chateau, and Gothic, which are significant historical sites and representative buildings of modern China, forming a stunning scenic line along the Huangpu River. As night falls, the neon lights on both banks illuminate the sky. Board a Huangpu River cruise or ferry and glide along the river, feeling the gentle breeze. On one side is The Bund, a witness to historical development, while on the other stands Lujiazui, Shanghai's modern landmark. The graceful silhouette of Waibaidu Bridge offers a fresh perspective to admire the beauty of this vibrant metropolis.Shanghai · 94.2 km from Haiyan

Lingyin Feilai Peak Scenic Area is located west of West Lake Scenic Area, including Lingyin Temple andFeilai peakTwo main views.Feilai peakNot large or tall, yet it gathers hundreds of statues of bodhisattvas and eminent monks from different dynasties, creating a beauty of fusion. The Lingyin Temple in the mountains is a famous ancient temple in Hangzhou, bustling with incense offerings. Lingyin Feilai Peak Scenic Area itself is not very large, and you can explore it on foot. After entering the main gate, turn left, and you'll see it in no time.Feilai peak, following the forest trail for less than 5 minutes, you'll see the entrance to Qinglin Cave. It's said that the stone slab in front of the cave was once the sleeping bed of Ji Gong, and lying on it is believed to free one from worldly troubles, attracting many travelers to take a rest here. Heading north, the Yuru Cave houses exquisite statues of the Eighteen Arhats from the Northern Song Dynasty, with additional finely crafted statues of the Six Patriarchs of Zen Buddhism on both sides of the cave's eastern entrance. The Longhong cave ahead is commonly known asGuanyin caveInside, there is a rock crevice known as "a thread of sky." Not everyone can see the light passing through the crevice, so you often see people craning their necks to look up. The cliff outside the cave is covered with stone carvings of Buddha statues. At the lower part, you can see the Song Dynasty carving of "the white horse carrying scriptures." The Ligong Pagoda at the entrance of Longhong Cave is the only remaining Ming Dynasty pagoda in Hangzhou. Following the Cold Spring Stream from here, you can also see the big-bellied Maitreya. Opposite the stone carvings stands the famous Lingyin Temple, which is open to the public free of charge but requires real-name reservation in advance, and is still well worth a visit. The statue of Skanda in the heavenly king hall is a relic from the Southern Song dynasty, carved from a single piece of camphor wood, making it extremely precious. The newly renovated Yongfu Temple in Hangzhou is located next to Lingyin Temple. Follow the signs uphill to reach it. Besides the serene ancient architecture, the temple grounds also feature a tea plantation and many ancient trees, offering quite a scenic view. Visitors must return the same way from Yongfu Temple. For those who wish to hike, there is a fork in the path halfway back to Lingyin Temple, leading to Taoguang Temple's exit and onward to Beigao Peak. This route is quiet with few people, making for a pleasant walk. Beigao Peak can be reached by hiking or taking a cable car. At the summit, the Temple of the First Wealth God under Heaven is one of Hangzhou's famous ancient temples.Hangzhou · 87.1 km from Haiyan

Nanbei Lake, formerly known as Yong'an Lake, also called Gan Lake and Gaoshi Lake, is located in Haiyan County, Jiaxing City, on the north bank of Hangzhou Bay, Zhejiang Province. Surrounded by mountains on three sides and facing the sea on the other, it is China's only scenic area integrating mountains, sea, and lake. I visited this place more than ten years ago, and I clearly remember it was the first event of my car club. More than 40 cars of the same model came together—it was a grand and memorable sight. More than ten years have passed, and I don't really remember the scenic area anymore, but I still remember this place. This time, I felt it was much better than before, especially in terms of facilities. Whether it's parking, dining, or entertainment activities, everything felt very well done, and the experience was excellent. Nanbei Lake is actually a lagoon at the mouth of the Qiantang River, divided into north and south halves by a long causeway (Zhonghutang), hence its name. The causeway is 500 meters long. Nanbei Lake consists of four major resource elements (four scenic areas): lakes and ponds, mountains and forests, the coast, and an ancient city. It boasts rich natural resources and cultural landscapes. Major attractions within the scenic area include Tanxian Stone City, Yunxiu Temple, and Yingke Peak. It is one of the first batch of provincial-level scenic spots in Zhejiang Province, a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, and one of the top ten leisure and vacation destinations in Zhejiang.

🌿Haining Shenxian Lake | A hidden "Zelda secret" in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai, a hidden wonderland with maximum healing power A legendary attraction that's been trending on social media this year, Haining Shenxian Lake, with its legendary story of transformation from an abandoned mine into an ecological park, has become a haven for urbanites seeking a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle. Driving from Hangzhou in just one hour and Shanghai in 1.5 hours, it's a stress-free weekend getaway! This guide will show you countless ways to explore it! 👇 📸 100% photo-taking success rate: a hidden gem of a camera The waters of Shenxian Lake perform magical acts—a sapphire-blue on clear days, a gray-green like emerald on cloudy days, and the tangerine-red sunset reflected on the lake surface in the evening, making it feel like stepping into the fantasy world of "The Legend of Zelda"! The wooden boardwalk in the center of the lake: 360-degree views of the lake. Standing at the end of the boardwalk to snap your back will make you feel completely alone, and your social media posts will keep asking about your "stunning perspective"! Glass Observation Deck: At sunset, the golden afterglow casts a breathtaking, shimmering beauty across the lake. Light-colored clothing is recommended; the light and shadow create a soft-focus effect on your skin! Metasequoia Maze: Autumn leaves are ablaze with color. Low-angle photography creates a fairytale-like forest experience. Perfect for Hanfu or forest-style outfits! Wild Flower Slope: Cosmos, verbena, and pink muhly grass bloom seasonally. Lay back amidst the blossoms for stunning photos—easily capture the atmosphere! 🚴 Enjoy a wide variety of activities for all ages. Lakeside Greenway: A 5-kilometer native trail featuring cobblestone paths and steps, easily completed in 2 hours. Along the way, you'll pass through metasequoia forests, reed marshes, and waterfront platforms, creating a natural oxygen bar. Recommend the "White Water Fish" and "Fish Head Soup," which are so rich you'll want to lick the bowl! Lao Pan's Xiaolongbao: A 30-year-old establishment, they offer thin wrappers, generous fillings, and a broth so thick it's worth a watchful eye. A local favorite for breakfast! Ziwei Cold Drinks: A summer must-try! Enjoy traditional Haining delicacies like bayberry wine and orange cake, a refreshing way to cool down and transport you back to childhood! ⚠️ Practical Tips and Pitfall Avoidance Guide Transportation: If driving, navigate to "Shenxian Lake Ecological Park" (free roadside parking available). For buses, first go to Haining City, then transfer to bus T109 to "Shenxian Lake Station." Buses run infrequently, so it's recommended to check schedules in advance! Equipment: Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses are essential! There's little shade near the lake, so bring mosquito repellent as it's more common in the evening! Safety: There are no guardrails around the lake, so stay away when taking photos. Swimming is strictly prohibited. Safety first! Environmental: There are no commercial facilities in the scenic area. We recommend bringing your own water and snacks. Please take your trash with you. Leave no trace camping to preserve the beauty!

My second visit to West Lake was great; the boat tour was excellent. The dock was easy to find, the staff were very friendly, provided clear explanations, and helped with any issues. There were also sightseeing buses, which were nice but a bit pricey. Taking the boat tour and then walking around was both perfectly fine.

Lingyin Temple is a must-visit when in Hangzhou, and it's easily worth spending a full day here. Our tour guide was very experienced and provided clear, insightful explanations throughout the tour. However, keep in mind that the flowers and candles offered for purchase through the guide were on the pricier side.A few critical planning tips if you are visiting soon:1) Temporary Closures: The cable car is closed from July 19 to September 20, and the First Wealth Temple (第一财神殿) is closed from May 25 to November 25.2) Entry Policy: Entry passes are strictly single-use—you cannot re-enter once you leave.3) Timing & Traffic: Plan to arrive before 8:00 AM and leave before 5:00 PM to avoid heavy traffic jams.4) reservation: While there is no separate entrance fee beyond the ticket, you must reserve a slot via WeChat in advance (or secure your reservation directly by purchasing this ticket).Overall, a wonderful experience—make sure to plan your timeline and expectations ahead of time!
