Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans (La Saline Royale)
The Royal Saltworks at Arc-et-Senans is located in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France and is an important example of 18th-century French industrial architecture. The saltworks were designed by the famous architect Claude-Nicolas Ledoux and were built between 1775 and 1779 by order of Louis XV. In the past, brine was transported here from Salins-les-Bains through wooden pipes and then evaporated by heating to produce salt. The saltworks ceased production in 1895.
