As you approach the foot of the glacier, its majestic beauty is sure to blow your mind. △ Enjoy the magnificent glacier scenery △ Learn about the history of glaciers △ Admire the wonderful ice formations

Lake Matheson

59 reviews

Lake Matheson is located near Fox Glacier and is surrounded by temperate rainforest. The trail winds through dense, moss-covered forests, where you can often hear the calls of native birds along the way. Because tannins from fallen leaves in the forest give the lake a dark color, the surface is smooth as a mirror when there is no wind. The snow-capped peaks of the Southern Alps directly opposite, along with the sky, are reflected on the dark water with exceptionally clear outlines, earning it the reputation of a mirror lake. The lake surface is relatively calm on clear, windless mornings, making it the golden time to view the reflections of the snow-capped mountains. The trail around the lake is easy to walk, with multiple viewpoints along the way, including the jetty viewpoint, the panoramic view, and Reflection Island. The combination of forest, water, and snow-capped peaks creates unique scenery at each spot.

The west coast of the South Island is a narrow strip of land known for its pristine and rugged coastline. With its many peaks and glaciers, crystal clear lakes and sparsely populated villages and towns, the region is the ideal place to experience New Zealand's pristine natural landscapes. The complex and varied topography has made the area a great adventure destination. Adventurous friends will not get bored with the exciting and fun activities here: helicopter hikes on the glacier, skydiving, rafting……you name it. The Fox or FranzJoseph glaciers of the world may be the region's most attractive sights, attracting countless people from all over the world. Although there are more than 140 glaciers flowing down the Southern Alps, only the Fox Glacier and Franz Josef Glacier on the west coast have been able to penetrate into the low-lying rainforest, and only here and Argentina have this natural phenomenon in the world. Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers are two of the most visited glaciers in the world. One can take a close-up tour of the natural wonders of this place with a guided tour. Experienced guides will lead you up the glacier, through ice towers, pancake rocks, caves and crevices. For more adventurous adventures, ice climbing, mountaineering and helicopter excursions are also available. The complex and varied topography of the West Coast provides good conditions for adventure sports. Whether it's a helicopter hike on a glacier, rafting through a glowworm cave, or skydiving in the Southern Alps, you can experience the thrill of extreme sports accompanied by the beautiful local natural scenery. The source of Franz Josef Glacier is in the Southern Alps, extending all the way into the temperate rain forest, only 300 meters above sea level. Glacier hikes can be arranged in neighbouring towns. In addition, it is not difficult to reach the end of the glacier. Scenic flights also provide an extraordinary bird's-eye view of the glacier.

Mount Cook is located in New Zealand's Mount Cook National Park, belonging to the Southern Alps, with a height of 3724 meters. It was named after Captain Cook, the first Englishman to discover the east coast of New Zealand and Australia. The local aborigines call it Aoraki, which means "top of the cloud". In 1882, the Irishman Green (William Spotswood Green) attempted to climb Mount Cook for the first time. Since then, Mount Cook has gradually developed into the centre of New Zealand mountaineering.

Tasman Glacier

68 reviews

Tasman Glacier is located on the east side of Mount Cook, with a total length of 29 kilometers and a width of 3.2 kilometers. As the Tasman Glacier continues to naturally shorten, the melting of the glaciers slowly began to form Tasman Lake (commonly known as Ice Weir Lake), which has been around since the 1990s. The lake began to grow significantly and became the source of many lakes in the South Island. Due to the huge force of the glacier moving, the two sides of the valley were cut abnormally and completely, leaving a large number of glacial traces of different periods, and a large number of black rocks interlaced in the ice and snow.

A truly worthwhile trip (helicopter + glacier hiking). With global warming accelerating glacier melting, hikers are making the most of their time to experience the joy of glacier hiking firsthand, getting up close and personal with the process of glacier formation—from the accumulation of solid precipitation to the compaction and recrystallization of snow into ice, and finally, glacial ice.

We visited this trail in July, during the winter months, and it drizzled on and off throughout the day. A pleasant surprise was seeing a rainbow. The scenery was stunning, with a mirror-like lake and lush greenery resembling a tropical rainforest. The hike was about three kilometers long and took approximately an hour, with constantly changing views – a truly enjoyable experience. Our Mt Cook View Motel was conveniently located just a three-minute drive away.

Excellent! Excellent organization and staff! The helicopters hadn't flown for four days while we waited. Everything was visible. It wasn't cold. The flight had a layover. Thanks to the team and the pilot. Definitely take the flight with a stop in the snow!

We stayed in Fox Town that day. The town is not big. It takes 6 minutes to walk and 2 minutes to drive. There is a large parking lot at the helicopter registration point, which is convenient. We reported half an hour in advance, and the staff gave a safety explanation. Then we drove to the helicopter airport, which is about 10 minutes away. It is convenient and fast.

It sounds like a must-visit place. We boarded this trip under the blue sky and white clouds. The young and strong Jiji chose both hiking and helicopter without hesitation. The experience was perfect at once. The scenery is really different near and far. If you have enough physical strength, it is recommended to do both methods at the same time.

The scenery is amazing, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery from different angles by taking a helicopter... The cost performance has great room for improvement, and part of the price of the helicopter 🚁 is the kb of the tour guide...

The Lin'an Art Museum is located inside the Wu-Yue Cultural Park, which also houses the Lin'an Museum and the Wu-Yue Cultural Museum. The art museum is not large, but it is quite exquisitely decorated, and the surrounding environment is fantastic. You can visit it while you are at the museum.
