Our guide was Carol, who had an absolutely splendid personality, on top of being extremely passionate about sharing her knowledge of the Doge Palace and St. Mark's. The tour takes you through the early history of Venice, through the phases of the Doge Palace and with that through the phases of Venice political development until the end of the republic. Carol did well to explain the meaning of key works of art along the way. After a short break for refreshments the tour picked up again to tour St. Mark's. Best way to beat the massive line! And again, Carol did will to guide us through the history of St. Mark's, explain the meaning behind the mosaics, as well as to provide us plenty of time on our own at the end to explore. Through it all, she was readily available to answer our questions and to provide dozens of recommendations for shopping and eating through Venice. A wonderful tour from a truly fantastic tour guide.
