Our visit to Yala National Park was absolutely incredible — a true highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka. We were lucky enough to spot not just elephants but also leopards, which was an unforgettable moment! The park itself is stunning — a beautiful mix of open plains, forest, and wetlands teeming with wildlife. What really made the experience special was our guide, Madu. He was outstanding — incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely passionate about the animals and conservation. Madu’s sharp eyes and deep understanding of the park helped us see so much more than we ever would have on our own. He also made the day feel relaxed and enjoyable, sharing fascinating facts and stories along the way. If you’re visiting Yala, I can’t recommend this experience — and Madu — highly enough. It was the perfect balance of adventure, learning, and awe-inspiring wildlife encounters. A once-in-a-lifetime experience we’ll never forget!

We had a blast! Our driver Ishan was the best! He knew all the animals and explained everything in English as well as in German. He responded fully to our needs. We had a lot of fun together and laughed so much.

I took a tour of Yala safari. Mr. Sasanka was the best guide! I was able to see animals such as the speed of discovery of animals, color 々! His explanations and drive techniques are all satisfactory!

I did the full day safari with Janaka Safaris and am so happy I did! Damith was the guide and his passion/knowledge about animals and providing exceptional customer service is top notch (plus he’s a genuinely nice guy). He picked me up from the hotel at 4:30am exactly and made it a point to be one of the first jeeps in line to get into the park to help our chances of seeing a leopard in the morning. He asked if we wanted to follow the other jeeps’ routes or go our own way… obviously the better choice was to go our own way with his expertise. During the day I saw almost everything there was to see… leopard, elephants, buffalo, deer, crocodiles, jackals, various birds, etc. There were reports that other safari jeeps that day were having trouble spotting any animals that day, but not us! This was also the second safari I’ve done in Yala and this experience was by far the best one. If this is your first time doing this, prepare for a VERY long day (I’d highly recommend bringing a Red Bull or some sort of canned coffee to help power through because there is nothing caffeinated available during the day). Damith, thanks again for a really great experience - you’re an amazing guide!!!


