Prompt pickup for a morning drive into Bundala Park. Excellent quality/condition of safari jeep. Driver was very professionally friendly, also very knowledgeable about the area and birds sharing information as we were driving to the gate. Excellent time had with no rushing around and an intuitive understanding of spending time observing but knowing when to move on. Some of the roads within the park are a bit rugged but our driver really handled the vehicle extremely well, no rough treatment. Had a great volunteer guide with us. Totally enjoyed our safari. ★

The safari was amazing! Our guide, Ishan, was the best! He was very patient and attentive (not crazy fast like other drivers) and that allowed us to see a Leopard hunting at down 20 minutes after entering the park.
He has more than 10 years of experience and he is absolutely passionate about animals and very respectful towards wildlife.
Breakfast and lunch were awesomely cooked too!★

We were taken from our accommodation in a timely manner and brought back to the tour through the National Park and then.
Our driver Ishan took good time and brought us safely through the park. Very good transfer.
Unfortunately, we did not see the leopards, for which a herd of elephants crossed the street right in front of us.★

We had an incredible guided safari tour of Yala National Park with Janaka Safari, and we cannot recommend our guide Su highly enough. From start to finish, Su was calm, professional, and impressively organised. With over 20 years of experience, his deep knowledge of the park and its wildlife was evident—and even other guides told us we were lucky to have him!
Su is both a driver and a tracker, which meant a more streamlined and intimate experience. He got us to the gate early so we were first into the park, which made a huge difference in getting the best sightings. His focus and determination to help us see a leopard paid off—we got an amazing, close-up view! Thanks to his seniority and reputation, it genuinely felt like we were given priority positioning, but never at the expense of kindness or respect to others.
Beyond the leopard, we saw everything we’d hoped for and more: elephants (including herds with babies), spotted deer, water buffalo, crocodiles, monkeys, monitor lizards, mongoose, peacocks, Sri Lankan roosters, and multiple types of storks, including a rare one he was excited to point out.
The Sri Lankan breakfast Su provided mid-morning was delicious—fresh hoppers, sambol, and cake with just the right level of spice for Western palates. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and handled the terrain with ease.
We did a half-day safari from 5am–12pm, and that’s really the minimum we’d recommend—there’s just too much to see to try and squeeze it into a couple of hours.
Su was truly committed to making sure we had the best possible experience—and he 100% delivered. Do not even consider booking with anyone else. If you’re going to Yala, Su is the guide you want. This was one of the absolute highlights of our trip to Sri Lanka!★

I did the full day safari with Janaka Safaris and am so happy I did! Damith was the guide and his passion/knowledge about animals and providing exceptional customer service is top notch (plus he’s a genuinely nice guy). He picked me up from the hotel at 4:30am exactly and made it a point to be one of the first jeeps in line to get into the park to help our chances of seeing a leopard in the morning. He asked if we wanted to follow the other jeeps’ routes or go our own way… obviously the better choice was to go our own way with his expertise. During the day I saw almost everything there was to see… leopard, elephants, buffalo, deer, crocodiles, jackals, various birds, etc. There were reports that other safari jeeps that day were having trouble spotting any animals that day, but not us! This was also the second safari I’ve done in Yala and this experience was by far the best one. If this is your first time doing this, prepare for a VERY long day (I’d highly recommend bringing a Red Bull or some sort of canned coffee to help power through because there is nothing caffeinated available during the day).
