The biggest "God help" non-Eurail Pass for this European trip is nothing! Activate in China in advance, check the time, book a seat, and check the ticket directly in the App. It is really worry-free and efficient! From France to Italy, the small town stops and island hopping trips are super flexible, and I stop at any time, so that I am no longer bound by the rigid itinerary. Especially in Switzerland, the golden train and Jungfrau line are worth the fare! Save a lot of ticket costs, and experience the dreamy scenery outside the window.
And you don’t have to queue up to buy tickets every time, you are not afraid of language. Many stations also support electronic pass scanning codes to enter and exit. The experience is full. It is recommended that friends who like to travel freely and want to explore many countries in depth like me. Be sure to try the Eurorail pass. It is really a "free traffic pass". We had an AMAZING day tour of the Douro Valley with BL Heritage Tours on July 20. Our tour guide and driver José was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the drive time fly by with interesting conversation and information. We had 2 visits to small vineyards with personalized tours and very generous tastings with the winemaker of each vineyard, with tapas at the first and a delicious homemade multicourse lunch at the second. We rounded out the afternoon with a private boat tour on the Douro River with more local snacks and portotonicos. Interspersed with our drives were stops at incredibly beautiful vistas for photos.
Everyone we interacted with on our day tour was knowledgeable, friendly, and happy to chat and answer questions, no matter how esoteric. And it was all in English, which was much appreciated since my Portuguese is very poor. We cannot recommend this tour enough - it was worth every penny, and tour company thought of everything.
