Vasco Andre' was our amazing guide for a full day private tour of the Douro Valley, answering all our question about the region, the towns on the river and on top of the hills, the types of grapes, soils, and wines produced by each, and the people who live and work here. We started the day early at our hotel in Pinhao with a 1-hour boat tour on the Douro River and had the entire boat to ourselves! An hour later when we returned, people were lined up to board crowded boats. A couple of other highlights - we stopped to pick and taste some grapes from the vine and a local farmer stopped by and invited us to his home with a spectacular view and a swing, to taste his homemade port wine. We also stopped at a wine coop in Vasco's home village and visited a local bread bakery using ancient ovens the same way for hundreds of years. Lastly, we finished the day feeling this trip was a highlight of our first visit to Portugal and gave us a unique insider's view of the Douro Valley, its history, and its wines. We highly recommend Grapeland Tours and *** for marketing them so well.

50-minute small boat ride with unlimited simple sparkling wine. Very good views from the river banks at 5pm/6pm, good photo opportunities. Off season, so we went along with another couple only, which made the experience very quiet. Polite and welcoming boat captain and host, although you shouldn’t expect any explanations about the Douro valley. Clean organized boat. Worth the ride, for that price (12,5€).
